Funny, I remember when this album came out. EVERYBODY hated it. At least people I know. They said it was the worst DL album ever produce. NOw almost all of them love it.
@deaschowieda This song sets them apart from everything else they ever cut. It's their 21st Century debut. I can think of a half dozen REALLY good songs they have, but this is their ONE to date, at least in my book. It's an enlightenment of sorts; different.
@lotustt It's not a great album. Half of it sucked so bad it took me and a lot of other people 4-6 years to even realize this song, and a couple others, was on it. Their music is either incredible rock or whiny ass bitch music. This song is the former.
@PawnBACM I would have to disagree with this assessment. I found Slang to be a criminally underappreciated album, personally speaking my favorite not produced by one Mutt Lange. That said, the climate in which this was released I have to say two things: one, it wasn't gonna sound like what one came to expect from the Lepps, and two, it was doomed to fail no matter what.
@shakobenmyerz "Doomed to fail?" I wasn't about to go there. The album has some of their best music on it. The good versus bad ratio is actually much higher on this album than some of their others. As far as I am concerned, high-n-dry and pyromania are their two other stellar ones, with pyromania, having a similar proportion of good songs. This and billy's got a gun are easily their two best songs, with die hard the hunter third, as far as I am concerned. Lyrics are longevity for me.
@shakobenmyerz They're just not a metal band or consistent hard rock band is my point. A metallica album will rip you from the first riff to the last and the lyrics are constantly intense. Consider the Scorpions or some other band like that in the hard rock but not necessarily metal genre as well. There was just never any in between for me with DL.. It was awesome and deep or I hated it.
on the def leppard message boards, I asked what the song was really about and someone said it was about abortion, I dont know but I guess it could be.
After Adrenalize, like many other bands from the 80's realised that it was time to grow up.
In 1996 people were expecting a new Hysteria or Adrenalize and didn't realise that when artists get older their style will become less immature.
I wasn't impressed by Slang but it is an album which you do have to grow up to appreciate.
This is still the best song on the album

I understood that this song is about a hallucinogenic drug and the resulting euphoria felt from it. We should really ask Def Leppard :)
