Am I the only one who noticed that the copilot is not wearing a headset? Critical to his job is coordinating with the rest of the crew through the intercom and the aircraft commander. And immediately to his rear is the noise of the top turret and its guns. And of course, there is the slipstream noise and the four engines. I don't even see the headset around his neck, where he may have slipped it temporarily. Interesting...

If you look close enough with a high def' screen you can make out the sqadron markings, LL I. LL designating the bomber squadron in the group and the I the aircraft in that squadron. LL was the a/c designation used by the 401st Bomber Squadron of the 91st bomber Group, 1st Bomber Division, 8th Air Force. The 401st flew only the B-17 (various models obviously) and the dates match up.

if look closely at the B-17 in the window he is trying to avoid falling bits..also you can barely make out the 3 letter UK radio code on either side of the star..definetly UK based Aircraft...US Eighth Air Force.

if anyone could read the first two letters to the left of the star you could tell what squadron that a/c was from...i cant its too blurry.

if you actually stop the video you'll see it a piece of a B-17s nacelle, apparently they are flying through the debris of a disintigrating B-17, the B-17s are early 'F' models without tail markings and early roundels which dates this from November 42 to June 43 at the very latest.

The name volkswaffe is correct.

It was a simple rocket propelled aircraft made out of non strategic materials such as wood.

The controls were kept as simple as possible also so that it could be flown by

pilots that had received a minimum of training.

Remember it was toards the end of the war and allmost all of the better pilots were alleady gone.

There is nothing known as "VolksWaffe". But in case of the BF109/ME109 both are correct! The 109 Fighters Designed by "Messerschmitt" (ME) had different constrution areas. Some where made in the Messerschmit Factory it self, some other got put together in the "Bayrische Flugzeugwerke" (BF) to poduce the needed amount of 109`s.

The Americans also used the german power plant design for its engine.
