agreed rolekul lol... its funny now, seems like she was ahead of her time, I think if she'd released pretty much any of her songs for the first time NOW, suzanne vega would top the charts & stay there
She left me today, took the kids and all them dogs I got so mad, blood started making noises in my head Should I run after her to hoot and holler? Shoot, I don't know! Someone make this blood stop Making noises in my head. Darn if I care, let her rot in hell, Our good Lord Jesus will save me Drown the sinners and make The righteous have silent blood Curling up to rest inside my head. Good lordy! Blood stopped moving or making noises in my head...
... Reminds me of times-passing out in front of MTV in the 90's. The track didn't really stand out at the time. But, after hearing it now in 2k, it sounds fresh.
i heard a teeny bit of this on the sarah silverman program and it was enough to get me hooked. her music is amazing, the fact it sounds like shes using raw materials to create such a unique sound
I always thought that after hearing and being entranced with "Pretty Hate Machine", she had to put out edgier droned electronic record just because sheer inspiration demanded that it happen....as some of the sample's (particularly on this track) are so similar in sound and structure to that record with her folk roots spinning them around,of course..
Best thing about Suzanne Vega, no matter what she's dabbling in sound-wise, is that her voice is the ultimate instrument she uses. Always incredibly precise, with lyrics that match. Her book was an interesting look into how her songs originate in her poetry.
Great song. Haven't heard it for years and forgotten how good it was. Chunky bass lines and the groovy industrial noise that was becoming popular in the early 90s.
Lyrically, it was at the time, fairly pointed. I remember reading a quote from her in a magazine that this song was basically her comment on the public reaction to AIDS.
Suzanne is such an underrated artist. I mean, Luka and Tom's Diner are both fantastic songs, but there's so much more to her than just those two songs.
this was always my favorite song off this album. i love the factory sound. the organic blood making synthetic factory noise makes me realize how much the human body is just a self-autonomous, organic (yet synthetic in it's functionality) factory, more or less. suzanne vega has always had a way about her interesting perspectives.
normally i only listen to hardcore metal but I love this broad. she made some good tunes back in the day. this and toms diner are all that i remember.
Wait, I stand corrected. My ol' pal Stinky Wizzel Teats has enlightened me. I didn't realize how much of my life had passed before I ever even heard of NIN...(nice Ren and Stimpy reference there buddy)
I think this has got to be the only song of hers I like. I really like the sound of the machinery in the music, kind of if in the same way I like "Closer" by NIN...of course this was 15 or more yrs. prior to Closer, so the song was well ahead of it's time.
I first heard this song some 15 years ago via a "Beavis and Butthead" parody clip. Despite their making fun of the video (and watching it during groggy afternoons after a long day of classes), I liked the song a lot, and got a new respect for Suzanne Vega.
...thinking why it's cool to bring up to drunk friends...must be the extreme closeups.
more..the electronic prodution treatments were unique. Didn't like Liz Phair so much...more easily digestible...but I did like the "f--k like a volcano" line from 'Supernova' as Phair claimed...
This is the first I've actually heard this song in a few years. Yet, this song still gets stuck in my head from time to time. I had to seek it out, finally.
I love how on Beavis & Butthead they watch this & go "It's that Luka chick!". Cracks me up! She must've gotten such a kick outta that. It's hilarious. Her voice is KILLER!!
AAAaaah hahaha! I remember that too! & Beavis kept on saying "BLOOD!" - "Blood makes noise?" God, I miss the good ole MTV days. Is this the only song this lady made?
Suzanne's a genius & has 6 or 7 CD's out. All Killer! Most are more mellow than this but all R great. She was a folk singer on the Greenwich Village scene in the 80's. You probably know this 1 song of hers that everyone knows from the DNA mix, but no one knows the title: Tom's Diner. Her latest CD, Beauty & Crime, didn't sell much but it's great & U should chk it out! Has a Lou Reed-ish song that she wrote about revisiting her old haunts w/ a famous graffiti artist ( Zephyr & I). It's awesome!
Hey thanks! I did quick research and did discover she DOES sing "Luka" and I also remember Tom's Diner. I would imagine Luka is her most rememberable song. I knew I heard Evan of Lemonheads remake, but wasn't sure who sang it originally.
I LUVE SV!!! I AM 11 AND SHE IS MY FAVORITE SINGER!!! there is this part of beavias and butthead where they are watching dis video, and one of them goes, she went to one of those places in the mall where you make your own video!
This is the original version. This cd was given to me in early 90's. I didn't know who SV was or listened to her type of music. After one listening, I was hooked. I wore this cd out. Believe me, this is the original version.
She sang this in Singapore. It was an awesome performance of a song (and was much stronger than Luka or Malene on the Wall). It took a bit of her as she was clearly panting after this number.
Well, she sings as well as she ever did. Her latest album isn't as good as the last one, I think. But physically? She is in her forties rather than in her twenties so her face looks slightly different. There is a lot to be said for being in one's forties.
This is so cool, I'm shivering while listening to the first 10 secons of the video.. SHe's so brilliant and beautiful, I wish I would meet her someday. I went to her concert and it was freaking great!
Yeah, I agree, and the way she sings "blood makes..noise" in the end of the vid is just so incredibly amazing..It sounds even more fantastic live..She makes my head spin, really.
Fantastic video! I think she's talking about when you put a sea shell to your ear, what you hear isn't the ocean. It's the blood in your head. Great song! Perhaps her biggest of all time. Certainly my' favorite.
I heard this song when I was 13 y.o., since then I am a complete fan of experimental music... this is one of the songs that created my musical taste... thanks Suzanne!!!
Gosh, I haven't heard this song for 15 years!!! It came out when I was in High school..... Made me remember all my buddies from back then :-) Thank you!
This song was a big hit on alternative radio back in '92. It hit the #1 spot on the Modern Rock charts in October of that year.
