I also wanted to say, GOOD CATCH on that intro to "Hot". That was a very short-lived music video show, and it also aired in New York on WNEW Channel 5 at 4:30PM, after Masters of The Universe (with that annoying twit ORKO) Was VERY nice to see that again.
Does anyone have any additional information on "Hot"? I remember it was on in the summer of 1984, then it was gone. This is the first evidence I have that it aired outside my local market.
I'd say the one thing that could have been added to that epic Sugar Free Crush commercial is the great big "YAA-HOO!" in the original song. I mean it's just not the same without it.
The commercials in the 80s' were great. They were totally epic...not like the crap you see on TV today. They also had some great jingles. I miss the 80s'. (and I wasn't even alive then!)
Yeah, but they gave Rainbow Brite they traditional "revamp her for the 2000s" makeover so now she's more of a tween attacked by Lisa Frank. Not happy with this at ALL.
The thing that got me about the Barbie commercials from the 1980s is....the jingle being to the tune of "Georgy Girl" by The Seekers. Also, regarding the Rainbow Brite ad: in the cartoon, wasn't Lurky supposed to be the dimwitted one and Murky the one with dreams of a monochromatic society?
My younger brother ad that Hot Wheels cobra thing. Ooh and Rainbow Brite!! My nieces had to have a Rainbow Brite doll!! Crush soda! Wow! Haven't had one in YEARS! Crush, Dr Pepper, Mellow Yellow, those were great soda's back in the 80's. I still on occasion will have a Dr Pepper! Thanks for posting these flashbacks!
Crush, Mellow Yellow, Squirt... I forgot how great soda (or pop back in Ohio) was in the 80's. All I see in the vending machines now are five buttons of Coke/Mountain Dew/Pepsi and maybe ONE of Barqs Root Beer.
That "Cobra" thing looks awesome. My life is now slightly more complete after seeing that "Sugar Free Orange Crush" commercial.

Savagely murder Orko??? He's the whole reason I sat through the whole video LOL. I loved the Orko bumpers as a kid.

Bowing to you sir for finding the Orko bumpers from He Man

Orko was my favorite character back then. Of course, I was 7...
Just how many seniors that needed dental care were watching He-Man?
While there is no cheeseburger toothpaste, there is bubblegum toothpaste. That should be close enough.
The Diet Crush ad may be the most dancerrific ad since the soup ad with Ann Miller from the 60s.
I was kind of impressed that almost all of the artists highlighted during the Hot intro had significant careers. Also, was up with the host's voice?

How could you not watch The Love Boat??? It was silly as hell but fun.

There are many jobs "avail" for you now. Call.... (*pause*) Summer Jobs For Youth!
That 2nd Junior 36ers ad was even WORSE.
Was Channel 36 running on a shoestring budget? Honestly though, I am glad to see that KICU is still an independent station even now.
Ernie Anderson can even make a board meeting exciting.
That Crush ad sure had a lot of production value.
What the heck is MMM Carpets? Can you eat them?
Can we tie Orko up to that Hot Wheels Stunt Set, pleeeeease????

Isn't that Kevin Pollak in the KICU TV bumper at 8:58:?

Anyone notice that Barbie pool commercial jingle was a play on the classic 60's hit Georgie Girl?
jenzeppelin 1 year ago
@jenzeppelin Yep. They changed it to "Barbie Girl" for their ads.

My neighbors had a Barbie dream pool. I played with it every chance I got!
I'm surprised they don't make those flavored toothpastes nowadays.

I had the Hot Wheels Cobra Stunt set! I'm missing some of the track parts, but I have most of it(head included) in my garage.
The second kid for the Junior 36'ers, while kinda creepy with the icy stare, amazingly did better than the kid for the first one.

I bet that Junior 36er is still single ladies! Yeah, he's avalible all right...
That's some line-up at the Santa Clara County Fair, alright. Although calling Eddie Money a "rock superstar" is a bit of a stretch.
"is there room in Barbie's dream pool for me?" Hello, creepy dad!
