i was at this show, las vegas 1984 thomas an mack center, someone up front threw something small at dave,an it hit him in the eye, they had to stop the show while dave went back stage to get checked out.when he came back he was pissed,an said he would kick the guys ass if he knew who threw it.love van halen
I love Roth era VH but if you have to make up someone asking if it's real? It ain't real. He did the exact same schtick at every show when they were touring. It's called "Show Business" not "Reality Business", still a great show but defenatly contrived.
This is so fucking great! For those of you who don't know, Quiet Riot was an 80's hard rock band who was accused of putting iced tea in Jack Daniels bottles when on stage.
To all you Sammy Hagar lovers out there who think the faggy Van Hagar could hold a candle to the Lords of Rock -- the Mighty Roth Van Halen --- FUCK YOU !!!
Vintage old-school VH had that killer raw sound that was impossible to duplicate.......most of the 80's hair bands tried to copy it but they failed......only Roth VH could pull off that awesome sonic fury that came alive on your stereo until it melted into goop..........FUCK YEAH, BABY !!!!
Yeah.........and that's why VH sold a staggering 39 million albums with Roth.........and only 18 million with Hagar..........so I guess it doesnt matter which singer it is in the band, right ??
@Hunkola thats wonderful, doesnt matter depends on who likes who better. I like Van Halen better than Van Hagar you dont see me going around being an asshole?
I'm just saying you cant go around making generic statements like "who cares what singer was in VH"
It makes a huge difference who fronts VH........with Dave, Halen was a legendary band that shook the world and taught us all how to party.........with Hagar, it was a lame, pussyface outfit that only made shitty love ballads.
These guys were the KINGS of the '80s until DLR split. They both did well afterwards at least until the end of the '80s, but never got close to the heights of '84. :-(
I agree. Hagar wasnt totally bad and it was also sort of a good thing that they split up because when they rejoined for a tour they made the most money out of all their tours.
yea, all the early van halen was the best and i love 1984 , seemed like eddies guitar tone got really cheesy too,, obviouslly the were still doing good in the early 90s with "right now" and stuff like that , but the majic was gona and they werent the same party band that everyone loved to see..
@bennyratt---*hiccup* Ok, sue me, I failed Freshman English two years in a row, and waaaayyy back then, at my HS, if we had to repeat a class we called it a rehappening aka rehap! LMAO! I'm kidding. It made a great story though, didn't it??!! I'll definitely use it again, soon as I get out of this damn rehap. *chases Dr. Drew with a meat cleaver*
All of you kids out there who think Jonas Brothers and Katy Perry are good entertainers.......I feel bad for ya.......I grew up when the mighty Roth Van Halen ruled the music scene like kings and every night was the party of the year when they took the stage.
@Hunkola---Damn Straight, fo sho, etc. Yes, it is I, the ever popular misspelling dunce in the corner. And the cradle will rock!! Especially when the kid inside is Running with the Devil!! Have you seen Jr.'s grades??!!
i dont think you can really compare em ..cause a roth fan is gonna say roth rocked and sammy sucked and same with the other way around, i think the sound changed alot and they lost alot of the party groove that everyone loved about a van halen show, .and plus diamond dave is way more of a front man
I saw the 1984 tour in Houston. They sold out so fast they booked another night. That sold out so fast they booked a third night.
It was a great show, 3 encores. I didn't notice it then but in retrospect I saw cracks in the band. Dave kept stopping songs because "he didn't like how that sounded" It looked like he was trying to show up the others.
I guess he didn't realize how good he had it. Too late
I still don't know what the image of the cartoon guy with the hammer means.
I was there...they only played one night at Thomas and Mack.....it was the only concert that i've ever been at where the entire crowd stood the entire time!
hhahahaha iced tea in thier jack??!!! hahahah quiet riot were pussies..the only contribution they gave to the genre bringing randy rhoads into the game
Dave opened his autobiography with a bit about how his knees always hurt from all the acrobatics he did. If you look closely he seems to be limping a bit here. Looks to me like its his right knee bugging him.
you hit the nail on the head. Not only was the music better with Dave but he brought personality to the band. That is why the 78-84 version of the band has stood the test of time.

the biggest question when you learn someone is a van halen roth or sammy?... instantly when they answer you know what kind of person they are

When Van Halen's not on Tour, you settle for Quit Riot."
