This is definitely one of the first speedruns of Super Metroid uploaded to the internet if not THE first.
Either way, it's my favorite speedrun for ANY game. Perfect... skill.

I disagree that glitching is frowned upon by elite gamers. It's not. The glitch is like the anomaly within the Matrix. It was not intended but ... there it is... and it's going for a world record.
For Super Metroid using certain glitches is much more difficult than playing the game without, and has therefore been overwhelmingly accepted by speed runners.
If it's in the game and is reproducible without tampering with hardware or otherwise modifying the game, it's perfectly acceptable. So if Mario wants to jump over the switch instead of hitting it (in Super Mario Bros.), there's nothing wrong with that in a speedrun. Anyone can do this on any copy of SMB and it takes special timing. It's an anomaly. But it is a part of the game. I can't emphasize that last point enough. Corny Matrix analogy or not, I stand by what I said.
Twin Galaxies accepts the Mockball now, as well as the Crystal Flash to skip Spore Spawn, who is only a Mini-Boss by virtue of not being required by the Tourian Entrance Statue. Red Scarlet even made an alternate final segment without the murder beam, which would make it legit at 0:55-0:56, but Twin Galaxies is so lazy about updating anything that the current fastest 100% they have listed is a hilarious 1:22.
Most of these glitches involve more skill than running the game "clean".

I enjoyed everything until the glitch used to beat Mother Brain at the end. I don't even care that Spore Spawn was skipped. But using that glitch was cheesy and probably unneccessary. Oh well. Still an impressive speedrun.

Well, it says right in the title of the first video that this is Red Scarlet's run, not mine. :) My best time for 100% is 1h 2 min, which I would post, except that 200th best is really not that impressive.

Does anyone know what that mother brain glitch is all about? Whats the advantage? It looks like it takes longer! Also how do you get the kraid quick kill? Ta muchly :)
The mother brain glitch (or murder beam) is quicker because it hurts the boss during both sequences when she is normally invulnerable. It takes a while, but the game counts time by number of frames, and the murder beam causes a great deal of lag, but is actually quicker.
As for the Kraid quick kill, just time it correctly so that you hit a super missile into his mouth just as it opens, and then follow that up by 3 more before he closes it. I recommend a lot of practice, took me a long time to get the timing down.
supposedly for the original metroid for the NES if u beat it with 100% and in under 3 hours (dont quote me on this cuz im still not sure how fast u have to do it) but as a easter egg u see samus naked. no suit. no swim suit. nothing! bear in mind however that this was the 8-bit era(ill miss you 8-bit games! so glorious were you all) so youll see pixel nudity. have fun guys.

If you use efficient pathing you can beat the game in less than 2 hours with 100%. The only hard part is having to fight the later bosses with less energy tanks and super missiles since most of the Brinstar secrets I find most effective to collect late in the game when I have the screw attack.
i thought it was 2:30, any way i made about 50 minutos but i don't realy complete the 100% O.o dude your skills are awesome. you sould be playing it over and over again to know wicth way is shorter O.o

omg... so many memories with this game. I remember I beat it, and my older brother returned it to Gamestop. I was so pissed off with him for literally a year. I kept telling him to get it back. I still wish I had it for SNES again. I need to get it off eBay.

Sweet game, a worthy addition to the metroid saga. But honestly, i like the item collecting music but it does get annoying for the 100th time XD Thanks for uploading.
And why does it suck to use the ultimate weapon? It's not like he had anything else. Did you see that he only had like 40 regular missiles left, and nothing else? I would use the murder beam ANY DAY!
That was partially the player's fault because he turned on and off weapons while he was charging a fire. That caused it to glitch up. If it was left alone, it would've been fine. You can find videos with perfectly fine "non-emulated" movies with this battles with no glitches.

The story was like, if you complete it under a certain time (wich i think this dude totally made :P) there was an easter egg with samus' armor exploding.. i think i've actually seen that somewhere.

they told me that to lol! but i beat this game in 1:42 and shee gets in underwear i just saw someone plying this game with samus without the suit.. she was in batinsuit can someone tell me how that is done?

Yes, the item collecting theme got old. Sure, it's awesome, but not for EVERY item, upgrade and expansion. Just the new items.
I so want to play this on VC on the Wii.

Sweet game, a worthy addition to the metroid saga. But honestly, i like the item collecting music but it does get annoying for the 100th time XD Thanks for uploading.

And why does it suck to use the ultimate weapon? It's not like he had anything else. Did you see that he only had like 40 regular missiles left, and nothing else? I would use the murder beam ANY DAY!

That was partially the player's fault because he turned on and off weapons while he was charging a fire. That caused it to glitch up. If it was left alone, it would've been fine. You can find videos with perfectly fine "non-emulated" movies with this battles with no glitches.
