Was "The Greed For Feed" made in 2008? I have heard that the conditions of overfishing and conditions of this town have had benefit of $10 mil from the Peruvian government in the last year or so. Does anyone know if this is true? What are the states of these towns now? And does anyone know of the population of the sardines, mackerel and anchovy? I'd like to know if there are any recent studies that prove conditions have changed, or if there are studies that prove they have not.

This is an eye opening documentary! I am from Nuevo Chimbote, a sister city of Chimbote, and I have seen the devastating effects of the fishing/fishery industry in Chimbote.

I hope this video help consumers the world over understand that for a cheap fillet of salmon in our plates, others had to pay a high price.

Hi! This is not a surprise for anyone from chimbote, the sad part is to be a silent witness of this, and worst to grow in the middle of this and feel that is normal, i was born in chimbote, most of my family lives there, but i grew up in Lima, but I love chimbote, despite pollution i can see the carming part, I believe there is a lot of thing to do and I will try to do something for my hometown....... do you have any info to contact the biologist? thanks

El impacto que ha causado este video ha sido muy grande. En Chimbote hemo recibido a un Comisión de la Comunidad Eurtopea preocupada por la forma como se produce la harina y el aceite de pescado. Esperamos que esto sirva para unificar a los Ciudadanos y sus organizaciones para lograr un cambio radical. Y por otro lado que los empresarios se den cuenta que este camino no es nada conveniente para sus propios intereses economicos.

He visto el vídeo y refleja tal cual lo que ocurre en esa ciudad porteña. Hi there, thanks for your feedback and constructive comments. I certainly agree that people in the West need to see the true cost of their cheap foods. But this is not 'yellow' journalism - the lady in the film was sentenced to life in prison for opposing the fishfeed plants... there is a whole lot more we could have said on that..if anything it is understated. But your right that it's not just the salmon they are fed to - but also industrial pigs, chickens and shrimp all over the world...

I live in Peru and have done some looking into this topic. The video is a little sensational, a bit of yellow journalism. I am not saying there is no problem. Chimbote is a really polluted city. But is it because of farmed salmon? Anchovies are used for lots of other things. But, anyway it's good to see this getting out. People who live in industrialized countries should see the conditions in 'developing' countries more often, since it's all connected.
