I recall the TV trailer for this movie, where they tried to introduce Harris (the villain) as a would-be rival to Jason and Freddy. Never happened of course without any sequels but he was a rather creepy bad guy.
These 80's flicks play like todays "Grindhouse", but better! The whole vibe was really visceral; there were no CGI, no green screens (sure, blue screens were used obviously), and the special effects were really cool - actually more believable! Nightmare was a kind of benchmark, and clearly this film found much inspiration. I remember it getting panned when it came out. But revisited, it stands up really well, much like Stepfather, Evil Dead 1 and 2, and countless others! Love 'em shamelessly.
@yournotrandom Not even close dude. Nightmare and Bad Dreams are completely different movies. U should check it out. Its a very well done Horror/ Thriller.

Man, this used to play on cable all the time. Does anybody know the origin of that scream at 1:38? I've heard it in all sorts of things.

Some interesting elements but I can't say this film worked for me, although I haven't seen it for years. Great trailer though, thanks for posting!
