@jordanchie I think you need the biology lessons mate. Our lungs only extract approximately 4% of the oxygen from the air we inhale. This means that we exhale approximately 16% of oxygen OUT. If we didn't exhale any oxygen then what would be the point in performing mouth to mouth resucitation?
@Jamierose757 Our lungs extract 4% and we exhale 16%. That's 20%. What happens to the remaining 80%? Check your facts. We absorbe about 30% of what we inhale. If you don't know, don't act like you do.
@MrKuntry71 Are you an idiot? The air we breathe in is only made up of approximately 20% oxygen. The other 80% is made up of approximately 79% nitrogen and 1% of trace gases such as carbon dioxide, argon, methane etc. So when we breathe AIR in we only extract approximately 4% of the oxygen content OF THE AIR leaving 16% to be exhaled. So to quote a retard "If you don't know, don't act like you do."
I think I just found my running guru! 36 and just want to get in better shape. Tried jogging a few times but always quit after a month. This guy hit the nail on the head in one video about the mental side of running. I mean he is training to run across the country! Who better to know about the the mental side. I'm going to try the breathing tips and the mental tips tomorrow. Wish me luck.
Thanks for the tips just failed first attempt at firefighter physical got to train for next test...any tips on jogging whilst carrying weights upto 15kg over 25m in under 5 mins as I lost control of breathing technique?
he says he gets a lot more oxygen in and a lot more oxygen out when he's breathing with his mouth running fast... you don't exhale oxygen though, you exhale carbon dioxyde
@jortet so how can CPR save a life? first off go and google how much oxygen is actually absorbed into your lungs. its not all of it. you DO exhale oxygen as well as carbon dioxide.
@98nfsmw98 I heard if you breath out on your left foot(or right can't quite remember now) it causes it because it pinches an organ. Find out whatever foot your breathing out on and switch, it helped me!
I watched this video 2 hrs ago, I said hey belly goes out lungs bigger=more oxygen intake, so i ran 2x around a 2 mile loop at a park, kissena park, and that amount of movement on my belly from breathing caused me to have a massive bowel movement and i pooped in the park besides a tree and used dried leaves for tissue paper, maybe it was a coincidence? Im running tomorrow, i'll just have to see. Anyone can direct me to a video on how to sooth a achy butt crack from using leaves as tissue paper.
@iBreathinAndOut i have that same problem! i'm on the soccer team and i HATE it when we have to run or jog, because of that!!): if you find anything out let me know!
I have this problem that when I run my throat starts to hurt. Everything else is fine and I don't even have trouble breathing, my throat just hurts so bad that I have to stop and even out my breathing. And it's really annoying because it stops me from really jogging properly. I don't have this problem when swimming. Do you know any way that I could maybe make it stop hurting, because I really need to be able to do other stuff than just swimming if I want to improve anything!
I've been walking and this morning started to jog, but I couldn't catch my breath and my heart just kept pumping too fast, I had to stop. Is this normal when you first start?
I get this question a lot, I tell people that while they are running there bodies will just start breathing at the pace they need to fuel there body. In other words, if your running fast you are going to breath fast and if your padding your breath will be more relaxed. If you don't feel comfortable whith your breathing it won't be worth it.
@LESAM7578 It depends. If you are suddenly going into exercise when you are not used to it you will feel like you are choking due to poor physical conditioning (regardless of body weight). If you have allergies and you are running around plants, then you will have allergies doing that. If you have asthma, you'd know you have asthma. My suggestion is slowly drink water as you jog and try to stay relaxed, not sprinting. Panic attacks are a possibility, so look up their symptoms as well.
i just started jogging today, but i work out my legs every week so my legs weren't tired. however, my throat was real dry and it was hard to breathe. which means i had to walk to catch up on my breathe.
If you get a sharp pain in your rib or side, thats a problem of breathing in and out of your mouth. Since the lung expands and contracts too fast, it would touch the rib and hurt, so i suggest not breathing through your mouth on long distance runs...
30 miles?!?!?! I can run 1... but i just started. I run a 6.52 mile and I want to make it a 5.30. Then I wanna be able to run 3 miles in 18 minutes by next year. Thanks for the video
@SampleHockey101 I argee with you and on an add note you don't breathe oxygen, you breathe air which is made up of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and the rest is other gases.
@SampleHockey101 I agree with you and on an add note you don't breathe oxygen, you breathe air which is made up of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and the rest is other gases.
Hey tellman, I have been running for a few weeks now and I have lost 15lbs over all. However I thought the part of the out of breath thing would be over I can'nt run a entire mile without stopping.
The air that goes through your mouth that's oxygen loaded will go to the alveoli (air sacs your lungs basically), but if you breathe through your nose, the air outside binds with... forgot what it's called, but it's like nitrous something... with that thing, making oxygen 30% more absorb-able.
i myself never breath in through my mouth , it really knocks e out quickly , look man lets be staight forward here the passage of the mouth is not equipped for handling air , you should make yourself breath in through nose, it'll be annoying in the beginning but definately pays off .
You also do alot better if you wear a bra when running. And the perfect song to run to it tubthumping LOOK IT UP it will keep you running for like five minutes straight.
thru the nose is 30% more effecient for the lungs since it pre-warms the air b4 it hits the lungs, therefore better circulation. but it's different and sometimes difficult i'm learning
I can certainly testify to the health benefits of nasal breathing. MANY health benefits reported, even Wikipedia's page seems to agree. Try it, and maybe do some internet research.
The backyard in this video with the singing birds and sunshine looks real good considering there's a nor-easter outside here right now ha

Thanks Tellman! I am going to try to start running a bit. Been walking for a year now. Your tips about breathing could make a difference. I wonder if those same tips could be applied to long distance horse rides too...
