for those who misunderstood, song meaning is like show how dumb is the TV entertainment industry(including live tv fake evangelists, fake emotions, fake everything) TV is not the real thing, real life, it's a bloody cheap FAKE made by greedy basterds to fool you and ruin your life by making you sit and watch some crap in the box instead you should be living your own life, real life. nowadays it's gone way too far and we must stand strong and fight for minds of our children and our own minds.
The Hooters played @ the Stone Pony in Asbury Park one April six weekend in the nineties, and rocked the place like Bruce Springsteen. Love this song.
The Hooters played at the Stone Pony on April 6 of some year in the eighties and rocked the place like Springsteen. Love the song, and laugh at the politico.
The subject matter of this song deals with insincere televangelists. Peopl who use T.V. to spread the word of God while stealing money form the likes of the elderly, those people on a fixed income, or the kindhearted gulible souls who believe they're money wil be used by the "snake oil salesmen" and saleswomen to enlighten people and gelp the needy.
The sad thing is this parody of shows on stations like TBN isn't far off the mark. They do (or did) really look like that, right down to the over-the-top enthusiastic audience and the fake smiling.

Did really well in the UK (top 20 i think)
Then 80% of US citizens believe Bible is literal truth compared with 4% UK (also 8x more agnostics and atheists in UK pro rata)
in the late 80's and early 90's anti evangelist tunes did really well here. Phil Collins (of all people),Black Grape,XTC,Pink Floyd....
