  • well, now that i listen to it, it really does sound a lot like wheels but heck at least, they did a bit of tweeking and if you ask me wheels sounds much better

  • the chord progression is the same as wheels, D A Fsharp E...but the rest of it dont sound much like it really at all...

  • Wrong Chords

  • Lucky kid making with the hot girl by the pool.

  • wish i was that lucky basterd lmfaoo

  • I would give anything to be Tom Petty.

  • ok this may sound weird but i think he looks kinda cute at 0:25 to 0:28 lol im dumb

  • You are not! Tom is gorgeous.

  • whats the video suggesting?

  • does anyone else think foo fighters ripped this song off with wheels?

  • i've been wondering for a while wt that song reminded me of

    thanks

  • @thisismia99 No. They much more ripped off Three Doors Down's general sound than anything Tom Petty related.

  • me .

  • Me, I just heard Wheels for the first time, and thought instantly - Learning to Fly! Oh well, people are ripping each off all the time in music.

  • ya but both songs are still good

  • OMG YES! thats exactly why im on this video

  • Video resonates with me...pool boys, palms, B-25's...beautiful skies. I like the black & white, too. It is a great song, no doubt about that.

  • I am the only one who thinks the video makes no sense? Great song either way...

  • your not lol

  • What was that in the guy's sunroof near the end of the vid?

  • Love Mike Campbell's Guitar in this one. Looks like the one he used for the super bowl in one of the songs. By the way, whether the foo's did copy the song or not, doesn't matter. Both songs are awsome.

  • awesome song. Reminds me of when I was a kid I used to hear it and liked it.

  • one of the best songs ever

  • It seems to me that this whole video is about some dude busting his cherry... and what he's done since then. Am I right?

  • Yes, on the international scene your absolutely correct. dunno about domestic as I don't live there. Last time i saw him was on a Kevin Costner movie. But hey losing your cherry is memorable.

  • Great song....

  • Foo fighters didn't copy this song (Wheels). But the funny thing is that they have another song called "Learn to fly" Interesting...

  • yeah

  • cudos to the foo fighters post. practically the same song. with that said, both versions sound are pretty amazing.

  • Heard people say that and I completely disagree. Just refreshed myself on this song to make sure. Yeah they talk about flyng in both but they are two different meanings, guitar messages, singers. listen to them both a couple times.

  • Love this

  • fucking commercials

  • <3 <3

  • Wheels is not a copy of this song...they sound a little similiar but that's all.

  • GREAT SONG!!!

  • imádom!!

  • Has to be played back to back with Foo Fighters' Wheels. Chicken meet egg.

  • So good the Foo Fighters copied it and called it Wheels.

  • classic

  • NDN huh.

  • i'm an old rocker from way back in the day..this song & vid is tops in my book!

  • I love this song . . .Hearing it makes me want to either laugh, dance or cry.. awesome!

  • This is music and voice taken straight from the Heaven

  • Great songwriter. For something a bit different, check out the "Shake For Me Now" video in my site. Thanks

  • hey davo316 u armenian

  • my favorite of all the tom petty songs

  • foo fighters new song sounds a bit like this song

  • it kinda does but they are way different

  • more than a bit...but I still like both songs, they're both great

  • amazing song

  • love love love tom petty!

  • i hate the dang ads infront of the video

  • what ads?

  • yeah, and i'm watching the video, and above the sidebar is some ad for Jay Sean...who???

    i'm not THAT old am I (29)?

  • Look at his dick head picture on the right..... Thats why we haven't heard of him.

  • hahaha

  • Adan Goulet... YOU FUCKING HATER.. !!!

  • @NeoQuello With that deep insight, now I apparently am a "fucking hater" too, both because the guy looks like a douche and he attracts these types of retard fans who whip out "hater" on youtube.

  • Thank you.

  • wheels actually does sound kinda like this. this is the first song that came to mind after i heard wheels.

people stop bitching. lots of songs have similar chord progressions.

  • So not ripped, but wheels has same chord progression (not chords), the same singing upurn on some its lines ends (like petty) and even the same theme of virtual flying?

    Ok you win.

  • DgIMaster2012 are you kidding, IF Tom Petty were a piece of shit could you actually explain how he is? or are you just talking pointless trash talk?

  • Lol I'm sorry, I was just pissed off. He is pretty good, even though country isn't my type.

  • this isnt country

  • What is it then?

  • Heartland rock

  • Which would be... kind of similar to country...

  • Yes, Heartland Rock!!

    This is a awesome song:)

  • tom petty allttogether is classic rock. this song happens to be 80s/americana

  • this is 90s, not 80s.

  • listen to the song ass i know its 90s but the sound

  • the sound is 90s too. if it sounded 80s there would be a bunch of shitty synthesizers, a drum machine and general overproduction. Tom Petty was one of the artists that started turning mainstream music back around from the MTV abyss - first with "Free Falling" in '89 and then with this.

  • THIS IS SOOOO GOOD!!! foo fighters are a different genre then this

  • yea right you raging faggot. go suck your boyfriend's cock and calm the fuck down

  • hahahahah

  • I heard the Foo Fighters single for the first time yesterday...First thing I thought of was this song!

    2 great songs!

  • Does anyone else hear the gchat ping at 2:38???

  • are u kidding me people they made this video like 20 years after he wrote the song u jackasses TOM PETTY IS THE SHIT if u dont know TOM u dont know shit

  • wheels sounds like this only a bit but i doubt it was intentional.loadza songs have the same chords,i mean honestly how many chords are there, how many songs are there, theres gonna be a bit of repitition, point is wheels used the chords differently and as lateralthink made the point of saying before me,youd almost need to write music to notice the similarity

  • this sounds fuck all like wheels what the FUCK are people TALKING ABOUT

  • yOU CLEARLY DONT WRITE MUSIC.

  • ACTAULLY I FUCKING DO MATE

    okay lets start with

    completely different drum beat

    different tune

    different chords/ structure

    its completly different mate

  • Well, you're right, but both songs have the same chord progression, in a different key. Learning to fly is F-C-Am-G and Wheels is D-A-F#m.

  • Obviously its not identical, but once you start to write (not rip) music you can instinctively sense if something has been ripped, this has in its feel, its singing nuiances (upturn on some lines ends) and even its basic theme of flying.

Wake up n smell the coffee..

  • Flying as Virtually - life drugs et, both same theme...

  • It sounds like John Mayer - Half of My Heart

  • no that sounds like this.

  • I don't think the foo fighters existed when this song was written

  • they didnt, hell i dont think grohl was even in nirvana yet

  • god shot me if this sounds like "wheels". cya

  • Agree there, wheels 3 times better, and dosen't sound the same...

  • @ johanlolz: Get your ears checked.

  • Yee - right. This is huge classic 1991 song, when Foo Fighters was only Grohl's dream :P, and his talent was hidden in Cobain's shadow.

  • one free internet to you, sir

  • @GibsonFrea ... no, not even close, you're off about a decade.

  • Your a dumbass.

  • Awesome! I have bought every fucking think Petty did -- well, everything he released, any way. Petty is awesome, even his early stuff is good stuff.

  • nay, there not that similar, so many songs sound similar, suining people is pretty pathetic in my opinion

  • just herd foo fighterss "wheels" sounds identicle!

  • @UKGatecrasherUK you are a fucking idiot. hehe

  • This is the best version! My Lil neice who is 13 months loves this song she get's really excited and dances when it comes on Bless Her! :-) xxx

  • im suprised he hasnt sued foo fighters for wheels like he did with rhcp for dani california

  • but he never sued the Red Hot Chili Peppers.... and he never planned on it, he didn't mind. He just said that it doesn't matter, a lot of songs sound similar.

So I doubt that he would sue the Foo Fighters for their song that somewhat sounds like this.

  • He definitely didnt sue RHCP lol and he's friends with Dave Ghrol... he would never sure him lol

  • Man those show girls look like ball busters.

  • true that my friend!

  • The drummer in this video is NOT Dave Grohl. He turned down Tom Petty's offer to be in the Heartbreakers to pursue his own project...which obviously became the Foo Fighters.

  • You got that right. This is from 1991, when Nirvana exploded!

  • this song helps me when im depressed

  • The one of the best video clip

  • lol hey i love foo fighters and tom petty, first of all, Wheels is a great song, but its sorta weird Wheels and Learning to fly sound very simaler and foo also has a song called Learn to fly, awkward ;]

  • thats the same reason i listened to this song again cause i was checking if they were the same haha.

  • Comment removed

  • Wanna know something even weirder, look at the drummer in the video, its Dave Grohl. He used to be Tom Petty's drummer.

  • yeah but dude there are loads of songs that have the same name lol and i get where your coming from about them sounding similar but again a lot of songs sound similar they jus used the same chord sequence thats all was most prob done by accident and im a big foo fighters fan aswell lol.

  • True:p Still both songs are sooo good. Tom Petty is a great band:)

  • Is it even possible to NOT like this song?

  • Love this song , so epic .

An american working class ballad I can certainly relate to .

"Some say life , can beat you down ,

break your heart , steal your crown ..

  • listen 2 this song and free fallin when yur hihg its so awesome and calming

  • u spelled HIGH wrong.

  • At least the Foo Fighters might have interested people to listen and find out more about this legend. Get in your car, start drivin out of the city an into the country... TURN IT UP!...

  • There is no one else but Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. This has to be my favorite.

  • lol great song

but come on everyone ff did not copy wheels.!!

dave admires tom petty and has been called to fill out for him on some ocasions so maybe he was just inspired by this song.!! : )

any way there both great song & great bnds : D

  • All of Tom Petty's music always brings a huge smile to my face. Whenever I'm having a bad day, I listen to Tom Petty and my worries and troubles just erase. This is why Tom Petty is my favorite forever and ever. His music is so amazing.

  • ye he does know how to sing great. and everyone will put u in good mood. learning to fly is a good driving song

  • Comment removed

  • Oh yes all of his songs are awesome :D. This one relaxes me.

  • Good call!

  • he put on the best show i have ever seen in edmonton alberta

  • Yeah I wish I'd been at that show

  • this song obviously inpsired "Wheels" why foo fighters

  • sure did.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! i wish they were more popular then they are now..

  • foo fighters' new song sounds exactly like this they copied it. way to go T.P!

  • I freaking love this band!

  • Love this video, thanks!

  • me too hes one the greatest singers...

  • I love this song! and video!!! I was there!!! I was friendly with the painted girl and I am the Las Vegas showgirl in the middle. It was 110 degrees in the desert that day!!! It was so much fun! We were UofA Students!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Um, ya this is QUITE similar to "Wheels" from Foo fighters. At least it was inspired of it, considering that they've also got a song called "learn to fly" instead of learning to fly.

  • good song

  • mmmmmmmmmm.... LSD.

  • I heard 'Wheels' (Foo Fighters song) come on the TV when I was in another room. My immediate thought was that it was 'Learning to Fly', to my disappointment it wasn't...

But it served to be a great reminder of this song.

I guess it signifies some things haven't changed much.

This is also another reminder of Tom Petty's great influence on modern rock. (Re: The 'Mary Jane's Last Dance'/'Dani California' Saga...)

  • A song which will cook your goose for sure

  • Piękny utwór..pozdrawiam!!!

  • i love hes voice. so different than anyone else

  • I love this song! Tom Petty rocks...

I just heard the new Foo Fighters one & it reminded me of this so much.

    Both are awesome!

  • No not saying its a copy. Just tom inspired dave and he just loved the rife and beat

  • I can kind of see it but only because I'm trying to hear the similarities

  • cool it. im sure no harm was ment. although people have become very greedy these days

  • there's simularities I suppose but then there's a lot of songs about with same type of rifs in them. Sure Dave's a big fan of Tom Petty and played with him live

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i dont get what every one talking about, this sounds nothing like 'wheels' or any of the foo fighters songs. it has no similar words or beat to learn to fly by the foo fighters eithers

  • HOLY SHIT, that is exactly just like wheels...They must realise, but hey, dave almost drummed for tom petty, so he must be pretty cool with it.

  • love it :)

  • The Foo song isn't -similar- to Learning to Fly; Wheels is the same damn song nuance for nuance. Maybe change the key, but that's it. Same damn song.

  • it may sound similar but whos to say that the foos ripped tom off? Tom could have been there helping to produce wheels for all you know. We all know Tom and the Foos have great original songs, so who cares if one sounds similar. Also the Foos are known for being able to perform pretty much any genre of music, acoustic, hard rock, jazz even!!

  • the chord progression may be similar but the melody is different

  • Come on...the Foo Fighters have years to go to be even be on the same page as Tom Petty. So let Tom decide and if he is cool with it ok. Tom Petty miles ahead of the foo fighters lets get real!!!

  • But I aint got wings...

  • This is still one of my favorite songs, and it's my favorite Tom Petty song, that's for sure.

When it comes down to it, it sounds to me like Tom Petty's songs are pretty easy to figure out on a guitar, too....nice if you wanna impress someone without going to the trouble of ful
