  • Your lowest string sounds a little weird when you play it open, a bit distorted(?) or maybe detuned?

I don't say that it denigrades your playing, I just wonder why.

  • @strzempa

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I hadn't logged into this account in a while. I think what you are referring to is what I would call growl. Growl is a characteristic of the Fender Jazz Bass. In fact it sounds more like the roar of a lion. The tone is also quite round and hallow (Mostly highs and lows) which I like too.

    Thanks again for your comment!

  • what amp does he have?

  • Hello HammondB200, Thanks for dropping by!

I'm using a Hartke HA3500. Hartkes are great and have a good natural tone. You can leave everything close to flat and get a great natrual tone. It's interesting. I was watching Victor Wooten's video for the new Hydra speaker and he confirmed the same thing. He pretty much just leaves everything flat. I have heard Vctor Bailey also talk about how easy it is to get a good tone fron the Hartkes. See My EQ at :27 of video. They are pratically flat.

  • great job!
