  • omg, i have some associations with pink floyd's p.u.l.s.e.

  • It's nice. I didn't understand it's in-depth meaning though. In the 2009 remake, I understood completely. Or, rather, think it's better.

  • @Roo520 Opposite for me, couldnt understand the feature film one bit, but got this one immediately

  • The feature langth gets a big of a bad rap, but It's actually one of my favorite animated films of all time.

  • AMAZING short film...I can't believe Shane made that in collage!!!!

Hey, fellow 9 fans! Check out my channel and my 9 AMVs! And PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE comment 'cause I really want to know how well I did! Thabks in advance! :)

  • Pk mods ftw bitch

  • how can people dislike this?!

  • How long did this take to create?

  • Did you know Sackboy from Little Big Planet is 10? Too bad he was rejected by the other 9 potato sack people....

  • one of this film's greatest aspects is the attention to sound design. every little movement has a sound fitting the actions, such as the pole sliding down the brick and hitting the sand. being a film maker i can tell you, this would have been EXTREMELY difficult

  • Incredible short film! I love how the movie really stays accurate to the short film.

  • i say SHANE ACKER did an amazing short flim of 9

  • @ivanna71998 9 was based off of this film... He didn't base this film after 9, it was the other way around.

  • Really good

  • Y'know, I've always wondered. What are the sackpeoples point in life?

  • Best...animated...short...EVER! It actually is better to watch it with the sound turned off.

  • If I weren't on my iPod, I'd type out a much better comment than this, but all I can say right now is that Shane Acker is one lucky guy, to have his short film discovered by Tim Burton, then made into a full length movie.

  • i have no words jt master masterpiece!!!!

  • excelent... the big movie is one of the best animations I've ever seen! The detail is incredible!!!!!!!

  • excelent... the big mobie is one of the best animations I've ever seen! The detail is incredible!!!!!!!

  • it made my day!

    e_e

  • Find it creative that the Cat Beast's hind feet are forks

  • such a great short... I think i like it better without words, the emotions expressed on their faces are amazing it is like watching a wonderfully done silent film from the 20's.

  • ok, I'm a little late to the game. I was sorta away for the last couple of years, and am catching up on all the movies, pop culture nonsense that I missed. Somehow, I decided to google 'best animated movies 2009,' and the full length feature "9" caught my eye.

So a quick trip to youtube for the trailer (looked amazing), and there on the right is a link the Short film....

I'm halfway through, and I just had to stop, take a breath, and say how damn amazing this is.....

    Damn...this is amazing!

  • I lke the music at the end

  • I like 5's weapon how it flips to get into attack mode or something

  • @iMuzikal1 It's because he is slightly grumpy but that is just me

    ZOMG I DIDN'T NOTICE THE EYES :D

    Yeah he does look cute

  • Could someone explain to me what happened? I haven't seen the movie so I don't understand. :(

  • @xXJaKeSnIpEzXx This existed before the movie. So you don't need to see the movie to understand this, though the movie is incredible!

  • is there anyway you can re-upload this in higher quality

  • oh wow even in the movie they dont talk man that sucks

  • @MsGers2 of course they do

  • I just watched the movie and I thought the short was better...

  • It is like 5 is a combination of himself,1, and 2 AWESOME SHORT

  • @TreeckoJedi9 OMG, that's exactly what I said! lol

Well, I said 5 seemed like a combination of himself and 2, but I don't really see how 1 is in there...can you plese point that out to me? :)

I also thought 9 looked like a combonation of himself and 6, with one eye being slightly larger than the other.

Oh, and pause @ 2:08...kind of cute and weird at the same time, huh? :)

  • helarios

  • The short is barely like the movie at all, it's sad when 5's arm is torn off in the short by the Beast, even though I love 6. My sister loves 5, though, still a good video.

  • Fantastic Animated Short and Fantastic full movie, Full credit to Shane Acker and all involved in this project.

9 is one of my favourite films a superb masterpiece great cinematography, Amazing animation and i hope there will be another film made with these little fellows.

Look forward to see what else comes from this studio.

    A.C.E.

  • This is such a masterpiece...... Same with the full length film.....

  • RAG DOLL'S ROCK

  • the ending music is amazing

  • @dahbombman YEAH i know right!

  • This looks like if 9 was a videogame. Like the cutscenes.

  • I feel as though the feature length of this was much too long- what made this short- and this story successful, was how concise, to the point, and linear it was, and it each part was important to the next. This story worked as a short, and not as a feature. I love the short though, and still respect all of the directors, and Tim Burton's bravery for attempting a story like this

  • Tim Burton gets blamed for everything Shane Acker and Henry Selick does.

  • nice. no wonder tim burton wanted to join as producer

  • It's sad that the feature-length "9" was kind of doomed from the start. The visuals screamed Pixar-style family friendly film, while the story and tone were more teen/adult oriented, and as a result, it seemed like a lot of people didn't really know who the movie was for when it came to theatres.

Still love it though; both this and the full length movie.

  • i dont like both of the movies because of its hopeless world. it is true that movies are in great graphic and idea. but still the hopeless world of it is very negative.

  • @orgil811 Thats the feeling I get about 9 also, like golems and robots and stuff make me feel sad.

  • what's difference in 9 (2009) and 9 (2005) ?

  • @Gaminghot 9 (2005) is an animated short story by Shane Acker which was nominated for an academy award. The 2009 film is based on the 2005 short story. It is an expansion of the 2005 film

  • @PaytonWestlake thanks for explaining :)

  • hey devini 5000

    are you there

  • I saw both films, so because its a human soul, it has to be released in order for it to be free.

  • this is 10 times better than Tim Burtons 9

  • @BoltRocky10 Tim Burton didn't do the movie..he just produced it along with timur, the same guy that did this short directed the movie...so your point is pretty much moot.

  • nunca assisti um curta metragem tão fantastica como esta.

as pessoas tenque assisti esta animação pensar e refletir.

  • Notice how 9 uses a MacGuyver-like savvy to defeat the catskull. In the feature movie, this trait is applied mostly to 2 and 5 (especially 5, the craftsman-empath).

  • slipknot! lol :D

  • I've see the movie today. Is very wonderful. And this short too.

  • Interesting how they changed the 8-star at the ending into a 5-star in the movie version.

    Chance?

  • me 2.... a sad ending T.T

  • pixars lamp screams when bulb is removed and makes squeeky sounds like the short films

  • @bubblesofhell Every time I see a lamp in an animation like this, it reminds me of Pixar's Luxo, Jr. and also Lampy from 'The Brave Little Toaster'. XD

5 and 9 both remind me of WALL-E, especially 5. He just has that helpy helperton Go0d Samaritan personality. Why is it that characters with that personality are always the ones that get beaten down by the world or pushed around by bullies (like 8)?

    \8-(

  • great characters, story, environments.. everything! I love it, although is a litlle sad

  • I never knew the ragdolls were so small! In the movie they seemed bigger.

  • better than the film.

  • wait if this was made in 05 then why did 9 come out in fucking 9/9/09 !?!?!?!?!!?!?!!

  • @IIIIITIIIII Probably 'cuz it would sense and would be better if it was put 9-9-09! DUH!!! Since the movie is called 9!

  • this is such and interesting story and it was a feel that other movies dont. I think Shane Acker did a great job making the story line. it's so different and unique that i want to make my own 9 film :D. i still wish the movie was longer...

  • Cool!!

  • 2:20 pixar's lamp

  • @TheLadiesman113 I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that! I thought it was a clever little joke at castrating the big animation studio by this underground indie production. In the feature film 9 you'll notice it comes from a car lol, nobody wants sued.

  • That was spectacular...

  • so good!!

  • best short ive ever seen

  • Amazing.

But story-wise, what's the point of releasing their souls?

  • @MoaiMaea watch the full movie to find it out =)

  • I thought that IS the full movie ...

  • @MoaiMaea well, its full. But there is another movie based on this, which is 75 minutes long.

  • Ah, alright.

  • I love how the kept a lot of little bits for the 2009 version. Like the lightbulb, and 9 disappearing all ninja-like after the Beast looks away.

  • @Spidey23girl yes, but there is one MAJOR difference and that's that, in this short there are 8 graves, in the long version there are only 5?!

  • love it!

  • personally i think the short is 1000000000000000% better than the film (: but thats me

  • the short film compared to the moie is pretty damn awesome. it sums up the plot of the movie better thn the movie itself, short to the point, but still enouh room for the imagination. shane cker is genious.

  • nicely done!

  • THis is absolutely perfect ! O.o Congratulations !

  • This movie is creepy and cute,,,,creepy plus cute,,,creepy with cute,,.,.,lol...love this one..sooo creepy...

  • Excelente!!!!!!!

  • i thought the 9 film was pretty good.

  • Film is good, but the music is an ultimate masterpiece. Does anybody know what's the name of a credits track? or tell where can I find it? It doesn't appear in full movie.

  • Comment removed

  • I thought this was fantastic. The feature film is a load of crap. Poor pacing for a story told much better when some of it is left to your imagination instead of dragged out.

  • I love this and the full length 9. Took me a 2nd watch of this to make real sense of it lol

  • This short film is SO much better than the film. In 10 minutes tell you more (and better) WITHOUT A SINGLE WORD than the 90 minutes-long- version.

  • thats not the only thing i liked more in the short animation ^^

  • omg 9 started from this animation crazy but the movie was awesome and by movie i mean the one that came out 9-9-09 i loved it i thought it was a killer move!!!

  • I recently watched the big movie and this really is a slim version of it :)

You can see how it has changed from a home made project, more or less, all the way to this box office movie.

I can't wait to see the next movie of this studio! really good, I got a lot more amused of this, than I did from Avatar or Up for example.

  • @henke9100 agreed. best ideas comes from peoples that often are unknown but can refresh the old ordinary panorama with something awesome.

  • Kinda Reminds Me Of 'Salad Fingers'

  • This is a great short film! It's basically a summary of the one in theaters, only the one in theaters has a few changes.

  • Great ideas, great cinematography, great film! Deserves all credit!

  • fuckin spammers go to hell!!

  • fuckin spammers, go to hell

  • thanks for the upload

  • superb animation!

  • I like this ending better than the one in the movie. This is so suggestive and somewhat unexpected as you're not introduced to what the device really does.

  • LIKE!!

  • I'm left with that too many holes in the plot feeling like after watching an episode of LOST

  • ..amazing.

  • holly shit that was fucking cool

  • its pretty nice to see where he was coming from. i knew had based it off his short film. i had never seen it though.

  • I really thought 5 still played his same role, just in longer and different sequences.

  • I watched the movie tonight, and here's my thoughts on the film: The action in it was pretty good, and classical of such a movie genre, and the enemy creatures were just awsome. My only real negative comments are that the ending just left so much suspense I highly doubt is going to be answered, and I was distracted throughout the movie by the fact that, for rag dolls, 7 and 9 did look pretty (as the ladies say) "cute" together.

  • cool!

  • This is amazing, and very different from the movie! Instead of 2 it's five... I wonder why they changed it...

  • they had to make the film longer so they changed it to 2 and made 5 one of his closest friends

  • Took this guy 4 years to make this. He had a few helpers though, but damn that is what I call determination.

  • @emilyjackson854 dumbshit, this movie is a short film that everyone can watch, why would i go to a retarded site wich i probably have to pay for, get a life instead of spamming on video's

  • I know it's awsome!!!

  • so 9 started of at an animated short

  • hey guess what this was awsome and so was the full movie and i watched it at home on my T.V. and buying the real movie instead of goin to a web site

  • omg that was SO cool! A little taste of "9", neh? XD great job to whom had made it. Major kudos.

  • i loved the comparison

in the short film there was only 1 monster

and it killed all the stitchpunks except 9

but in the feature film serveral lived and there were serveral monsters

  • Great video, but just wanted to know if there was a way to get rid of all these mother f'ing spammers that have been all over YouTube lately? Btw movie "9" sucked but I enjoyed the short film

  • I think I like this short film better--it tells the same story in a heck of a lot less time.

  • all you guys are saying oh my god awsome over an animation wow

  • This short film and it's ending are just so suspenceful. Thank goodness I'm getting the DVD tomorrow.

  • you wouldnt understand a thing if you wont watch the film. the film very linear yet very brilliant!

  • does anyone know where to find the extemely hilarious dub of this vid, it had squeaky voices and was just someone speaking over this original but it was so funny if anyone could link me or let me know if it was removed, that would be great, ive spent the last hour searching before any assholes tell me to look for it myself

  • It's so amazing and beautiful when a film/short film has no voice to go along with the characters but thats how you always get the IDEA of the tory the moral instead of drama storyline ^^

  • Spectacular. Unique creations. Expressions brought the characters to life. Wonderful imagination, story line, lots of suspense. Enjoyed!

  • anyone know which software was used for the animation and character modeling? SoftImage or Maya?

  • @rencrow Maya

  • Fucking brilliant on an epic scale.

  • so how did it end, i dont really understand...

  • Like a very dark version of wall e

  • the move was great and sad and creepy but good the film is great i love both

  • 7:10-7:13

    Freddy Krueger style :D

  • the movie to this looks cool

  • This is better than the movie.

  • This is awesome, great job !

  • I dont get it , why did Tim Burton take a short film , used the same story , same exacty style of animation same averything and just made it an hour long?

  • there's a german short film of SAW to, but apparently that worked out fine.

  • He didn't actually do anything to make it. He just basically paid for Shane Acker to make a longer, larger production.

  • well, think abuot it.

how could you make a movie like this over an hour long?

i think that's what's pretty unique about the 9 movie produced by Tim Burton, because it expands the whole 9 universe, and all.

both are great, but of course, since the short film is the original, it is still better.

  • Maybe he had a greater idea and made the short film to impress some investors?

  • The ending of 9 made me cry. Both times i saw it.

  • Love it!

  • Shane Acker is like my new idol now >__>

. . am I the only one who wants to cry a bit at the end?

  • What a touching film :)

And Acker made this all by himself? It wasn't a studio production? That...just utterly blows me away.

  • wow the tim burton one made me understand this haha and where he got the movie o.o

  • the full length movie is also by shane acker but endorced and produced by tim burton because he liked it so much, he really had little to do with the creation of the mivie

  • This is a great movie, i cant decide which i like better, the cat from this or the seamstress from the featrue film they are both cool!
