Hi I watched all your vids already and Im pleased with them. thank you very much, very informative. I'm really interested in the vintage amber color on one of your guitars. What brand of dye did you use or how do I look for that color? I can only find the amber, would that work as well?

I do press them in...leveling is always needed as far as my experience tells me. You can also with fret leveling, correct minor imperfections in the trueness of the fingerboard. You'll be happy you took the time to level and recrown.

hey thanks for the fast reply.. its just that i saw a video from ormsby guitars where they pressed the frets, then just file the sides of the frets and not level them at all... i was hoping it was like that since i dont have a fret file :(....

You could use a flat file to do the whole job if you're careful not to gouge the figerboard. I haven't tried it without flattening first. When you do that, you'll see how uneven they can be even though they look fine.

if you press the frets in instead of hammering them down, would you still have to level with the oilstone and re-crown them?, assuming that you pressed them in when the fretboard was completely flat...
