As you become a dedicated hiker, your balance and strength improve. I know people love their T-poles, after all, they paid good money for them, but they certainly are not a necessity. I used three sets up before coming to the conclusion that they are only a benifit to people with physical problems and the shops that sold them. It's simply something I do not need and don't want to carry any longer. Yet, I have no problem with others that enjoy using them. They are a status symbol of hiking, now.
@slodeth5 I tend to disagree. Hiking poles are very helpful if you want to protect your knees - and keep hiking in the decades to come. They're also very helpful to judge water depth and give stability when crossing rivers, help with very slippery or loose ground and if in doubt of snakes.
@WorldWideWanderlust I'm into my 'decades to come' and still don't need them. Yes, they can be helpful crossing streams and snow but a found stick works, too. Still -- if you love 'em, use 'em. By the way, I don't use this channel anymore. I'm now rainbowhiker. Best to ya.

they're great, but I'd only use one at a time, I'd want to have faster access to my knives/bear spray if i needed it.
