  • Doing them for over 20 yrs and like them a lot they do a lot of what they promise, The keep you younger than most for sure but don't ignore a good diet too. Corey

  • does anyone else get a real euphoric, "flushed" feeling when doing these??

i notice that my face tingles, mr cheeks go rosy, a vein (or something) just under my jaw seems to make my whole face flush and when i look in the mirror i look really rejuvinated?

  • @aureliosantana08 - I don't get the flushed feeling but I do get a 'buzz' even after 11 years of doing them.

  • hay que hacwelos

  • thank you for "fixing" the leg raising portion. helpful. does help core without any equipment. key is daily.

  • I heard these exercises improve your sex life, is that true?

  • Comment removed

  • yes. I know of personal accounts where more than one person had their original hair color return back from gray / white.

plant your right foot to one spot on the first spin rite.

besides... keep studying and learning stuff from Tibetan Chi Gung and other meditation tools from them, in particular

  • lmao where are the 5 rites???????

this vid doesn't have the 5th, and 3rd is done uber nub-like....gotta go more backwards, not just move yer head and massage your ass!

also, this vid has them out of order. they got it 1-4-3-2

    xD

  • It's not supposed to be all of the Rites. This is a preview of a whole DVD which goes through each Rite in complete order.

The original instructions show bending much further back BUT this compresses the vertebrae & discs of the spine. This is a problem if you have ever suffered from backache or neck ache (many have), or have normal degeneration as you age. This is an experienced teacher of 1000's students DVD so modified for safety/long term practice. Spine is lengthened throughout.

  • To fast^^

  • They are not Tai Chi! They are a dynamic yoga. See comment below. Even Bradford says less than 10 minutes.

  • Why are they doing them so quickly? This is not a physical exercise of the physical body and they are supposed to be done slowly and meditatively...

  • Actually the only information given by Colonel Bradford who discovered the monks about the speed or time to be taken was this: "The use of the Five Rites is no hardship at all; it requires less than 10 minutes a day to practice them." If you are taking much longer than t10 minutes, then you could perhaps choose to go a bit faster - but if you do that - remember not to strain yourself of course!

  • Remember to be present and aware of your body/mind while doing the Rites - it is meditation in motion - not just about getting to 21 reps! The journey is as important as the destination. It is good you can see how powerful they are. I got very hyper for 2 days! Where we have too much Qi - it gets shared out - and where we have too little - we get some extra. This detox effect only lasts max 2 weeks getting milder daily. Prepare for changes!

  • Dizziness article on natural tips and hints to help see "t5t" website. Can't put url as YouTube won't post. Just enter the usual with t5t in the middle!

  • I began doing them 4 days ago and my whole body is aching, asking for forgiveness! :-( the first rite i can only do 6 before i become nauseated. The others i can only do 11 repetitions so far. I do them at night, otherwise i´m too tired the rest of the day. I´m hanging there, though.

Thank you very much for your words (the comments you are posting here)

  • Gosh, poor you! Don't do so many repetitions!!!! You are tired because the increase in life-energy or Qi in the body is balancing out your body/mind. Most people get a detox effect and this is what you are experiencing. It is not just a physical exercise - lots of changes will be taking place energetically. Because of this 3 repetitions only in the first week is recommended by the monks. Then add only 2 per week for 10 weeks and you will arrive at 21 - the required number!

  • Well, I thought since I´m 33, I was not going to tire that much. The thing is that i used to do some calistenics and lift dumbells and for each I made 12 repetitions. I thought same thing with the rites.

The funny thing is, that thou my body aches, I do feel energetic/ energized!

So 3 reps, huh? ok, i´ll follow your advice. Thank you very much.

  • Yup, that's what most people do! It's great though that you can feel just how powerful they are! As I said earlier, some people do get very tired initially, some get super energised which then calms down. There are other changes too, like clear mindedness and calmness (even while feeling more energetic). Energy by the way is usually endurance, not caffeine like - so clean out the cupboards or other odious job you have been putting off!

  • By the way, i am about 11 kgs overweight..my goal is to be able to do the rites flawlessly, with my body parts in "unison" with each other during reps..

I checked your website, is very good

  • Glad you liked the website - thanks! Lots of info in the articles accumulated over the years of teaching so many people. Testimonials are interesting too to see what others have experienced. Some people lose weight - I hope you are one of them. Good luck! I have a group on Facebook if you want to connect with others doing The Five Tibetan Rites

  • YouTube is having problems with account holders being able to comment or reply to comments on their own videos. I shall send you a message

  • When doing the 1st rite, must we spin very fast? I do it 21 times and after that I feel dizzy in the afternoon.

How do I know whether I am doing a rite correctly or wrongly?

  • To find out if you are doing correctly, you can use our comprehensive teaching dvd and compare yourself with a mirror and against the instructions.

If you wish you can post a video of you on YouTube and I'll have a look for you. When I've checked it out - you can pull it down - or send me an email and can do it on Facebook

  • Dizziness is very common - as a teacher I see it all the time including very experienced yoga teachers. It is best to build spin repetitions gradually to allow your bodies motion and balance systems time to adjust. It can take months, so don't despair. Go back to just doing the number of spins you can without dizziness and then build up by just 2 per week. Also there is an article on my website with tips and hints for dizziness - see articles at

  • It's my understand that there is a serious debate about the authenticity about the 5 Tibetan Rites...i.e. they are not as ancient as some people claim and weren't practiced by monks. Please respond.

  • From reading the book and the story about it, it seems very fairy tale-like, especially given the fantastic claims about the results of practice. Still, seems worth giving a fair try just as a simple routine to get my lazy butt doing something.

  • A lot of people say that! But they do work for energy, well-being, strength, flexibility, health, calmness & self discipline. Also more conscious & able to be in the present moment. What else do you need?!!!

  • Sounds good enough!

  • How long does it take for shipping to the US does anyone know? Thanks. This is one of the better dvds I've seen on teaching the 5. The price is steep.

  • As long as USPS take! Normally 3 days max 7 as is shipped from within the US. It's worth the price and you get the free e-book with the original story of the discovery of the monks.

  • Why is the T5T dvd so expensive???????? $20.00 bucks plus shipping, come on! I have the Kundalini 5 tibetans, wanted something besides Ana Brett, sick of her.

  • The Ana Brett is also $19.95 same as this one. DVD's cost a lot to make, and those costs are offset in the price of DVD's.

  • Every time I look up the "Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth," the people who are doing the exercises don't look young to me. They look old and tired.

  • You know how celebrities look without make-up? Says it all I think!!!

  • I thought about your comment some more, and thought this might be helpful.

The Rites are an anti-aging technique according to the monks who developed them. Although we are all aging from the moment we are born, I think that those of us who are noticing the first signs of aging - are most likely to be most interested and motivated by the benefits of the Rites.

From my experience in teaching many hundreds of people of all ages - they do work very well. The Fountain of Youth is energy (prana).

  • Speaking of the Rites, I though the exercise where you get on your back and move your legs up over your head so your toes are touching the floor was part of this, but it seems to be a separate thing.

  • The yoga posture where the legs go up over the head and touch the floor is called The Plough or Halasana. In the Rites, the original version shows the legs pulled back over the stomach which flattens the back. But in T5T (my safer adapted version of The Five Rites)we keep the legs positioned so the ankles, knees and hip are all aligned. The deep core muscles that stabilize and protect the spine work best when the spine is in a neutral position, when the natural curves are intact (not flat).

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Because as you see, most of them are out in the sun. The sun will damage your skin faster than anything, and that includes smoking and sugar. It breaks down the collagen in your skin and begins to sag and wrinkle. 15 mins. of sun, according to experts is the max you should get without sunscreen for the vit. D affect. I cringe everytime I do yoga on one of my dvds & they are out in the sun. Regardless, I do, do the 5 Tibetans everyday, and my skin doesn't look old.

  • Agreed re the sun. Most people practice indoors because it is more comfortable than blazing sun, flies, wind, uneven surfaces etc. For the video, it is lovely to have nature around us.

  • Nothing remains the same. Yoga started with just one posture - sitting. Moving the body in various ways, belongs to humanity in total. The monastery where the Five Tibetan Rites came from is probably raised to the ground and the sacred texts destroyed or hidden. If it wasn't for the Westerner that discovered them, we would not even have access to them. Both methods work, original and modernized. The result is what counts - calmer, fitter, more conscious healthier people regardless of race.

  • I read through all the comments, and agree that most Tibetan monks would probably laugh at anyone doing these exercises.

As a serious student of Tibetan Buddhism, I am quite curious about these rites. They do seem to make sense to me, though. But are you sure they originate from a Tibetan monastery? If so, which one?

  • Perhaps - although they would probably encourage anyone who took a step towards increased consciousness.

Nobody is sure they originate from a Tibetan monastery. There is some thought that they originate from India. Due to the geographical proximity of these countries, and the records of history, we know there was great cross-pollination of all forms of medicine, meditation, yoga etc. The origins of the story itself is controversial but the stated benefits are very real.

  • i want to integrate T5T into my workout routine, when would be the beat time of day? I walk in the morning and follow with yoga or weight training?

  • I walk every morning, then follow with either weight training or yoga. I would like to integrate T5T into my routine, when do you suggest I do them (before/after walk, midday, evening?) Thank you

  • I would walk first and then do T5T followed by either your other yoga sequences or weight training. Don't split the sequence up, do them as described. Although physically it makes sense to interject different poses in between each of the Rites - it would be like doing Sun Salutations with other poses in between the steps. T5T raises energy and calms the mind. Can do midday to calm mind or mid afternoon to raise energy. Some split routine am and pm either half (10,11) or done twice (21 x 2)

  • Theres actually a sixth ryte, too.

When you do it you will become like... Superman...Well almoust at least :D

  • Yes I know. I don't teach it as it is intended for celibate male monks or those with excess sexual energy. This 6th Rite is well-know in yoga as the 'Uddiyana Bandha'. In yoga, bandhas are interior body locks or energetic locks that bind the prana in the torso and concentrate it in the three main nadis (energy channels) of the body.

  • Bandhas control the flow of energy in the body and are used during asanas or pranayama to energize various parts of the body, and to prevent prana from leaking (dissipating) out of the body and convert it into spiritual energy. They direct the prana, or life force, up the spine, rather than allow it to escape outwards as it normally would. The 6th Rite 'Uddiyana Bandha" is contraindicated in pregnancy, menstruation, high blood pressure, heart disease, hernias, ulcers and glaucoma.

  • Have you read the original story? Written by Peter Kelder called "The Eye of Revelation". (1937)I have no idea how true it is, but the benefits claimed for the Rites definitely are. I've taught thousands and they all report the same increase of energy, improved well-being, mental calmness, and so on. I know Tibetan yoga as such is different, but then there are many, many forms of yoga. The 5 Rites are another

  • All the tibetan movements are similar to the classical yoga postures, they are ustrasana.setuasana, parvatasanaandthe leg raisingis called utthapadasana and the uddiyan kriya in a sanskrit word meaning"to fly up",i do not know how it is differen because they are the same and thier objective to achieve a calm abiding is same too together with increased energy and etc.And the twirling around is called Prasdikshina in sanskrit.

  • They are similar, but different too. Utrasana (Camel Pose) involves a much deeper backbend than Rite 3 (Kneeling Backbend)with hands on heels. Setuasana (Bridge Pose)is generally not like a Tabletop (Rite 4. Parvatasana (Mountain Pose) is not one of the Five Tibetans. Utthanpadasana is similar but in The Five Rites is repeated 21 times and in T5T (my version) there are 10 variations to develop core strength. Prasdikshina normally involves circumambulation around deity.

  • if you guys would do that in tibet they would laught but is nice to see new stuff coming out!!!

    tashi deleg

  • is there a way we can see T5T?

  • I found that many people from India don't know about Agnihotra - ancient Hindu rite .

Agnihotra , unlike T5T is well documented .

I started to do T5T right after my morning Agnihotra . Don't know why it works , but it does ( perhaps quantum physics ? )

  • So great to hear from you! Yes, I know, it is incredible that you should learn about this from us - but very sad too. I have tried to find verification in Tibet or amongst Tibetans of these Five "Tibetan" yoga movements, but so far have been unsuccessful. The Gyuto Monks to whom I donate have also not heard of the Rites either. All I have to go on is the benefits I see people getting. Someone somewhere, provided great information! Isn't it great we have the internet? All the best.

  • yes i agree wiht you and i know that i have many things to learn and i am very happy that tru this things tibet will not be easily forgoten.

    wish you many tashi deleg

  • How come everyone that does it look pretty old? Does it really reverse people's age like what the book says? There's this old man in another video that does it but he still look old. Does it only make you feel young but still look old? Thanks

  • Because the Rites are claimed to be an anti-aging routine, so 'older' people are attracted. Younger people do many forms of exercise & worry about aging when they need to! Yes, you do feel younger! More energy, more strength, flexibility, sense of purpose, well-being, less anxiety, calmness, improved health. Lots of claims made are probably exaggerations to sell booklets, but the ones listed above are normal. Life energy, Chi, Ki etc is ageless, the Rites increase the flow in the body!

  • I do the T5T for almost a jear by now and I feel great and in top shape!! I recommend it to everybody because it can realy change your life!

  • I agree. I'm going to do them for life.

  • . T5T (my abbreviation for The Five Tibetans avoids all this by the use of core stability training, step-by-step build up process involving modifications and strength building exercises. The result is the Rites look pretty much the same so the integrity of the original Rites remains but different muscle groups are activated and safety is paramount.

  • i do the 5 tibetians now for 3/4year and its great ;)

  • Particularly not advisable in people with degeneration, weakness or previous injury. Using core stability in T5T (my version) the spine is protected at all times. #2, #3, #4 & #5 in the original version all show compression in either the neck or lumbar spine.

  • The Rites follow the traditional logic of yoga. The initial poses warm the body up for the strongest posture (#5) at the end. The backbend is considered best placed in the middle of the routine to allow time to re-adjust afterwards. I don't subscribe to doing the backbend with the extreme collapsing in the lumbar spine as this compresses the vertebrae, discs etc.

  • Quote from original book. The Spin also helps with strengthening the balance systems of the body, improves circulation and stimulates the nervous system. It is great for raising energy and can be done separately for an extra boost of energy, say when you head is spinning or full - or if you have to go out somewhere after work etc.

  • i love the tibetans but have never understood the significance or health aspects of doing the first spinning tibetan... nor have i understood why its important to do them in order..

doing the 5th cat stretch works better in place of #2 because its a similar stretch only less intense than the on-knees-bend-back tibetan, this i find more difficult than #4.

  • #1 helps to get all your chakras spinning rapidly and evenly (this is the purpose of the whole routine). Chakras slow as we age preventing the distribution of Qi (Chi) from flowing through to every cell in the body. This causes disease, stagnation, aging etc. Chakras that are going to fast cause exhaustion, restlessness and anxiety. The Rites are for the explicit purpose of getting the chakras to speed back up again - in this way "the old become young again"
