It may be fundamentally easier to build mars-worthy rockets to be launched from the moon. It would take far less fuel, due to the lessened escape velocity, and they would reach a higher initial speed, due to the moon's addition to the Earth's speed as it rotates around our moving planet.

We're not sure, though. We need more data. We can get far better data in a manned mission with our current technology than we had been able to get before.

@nunchucker I really can't see the point of launching a rocket from the moon to mars. I thought most of the energy needed to reach Mars is used for escaping earth's gravity.. In order to get stuff to the moon, we still need to spend that energy, plus some extra for the complications of moonlanding and relaunch..

It seems to make more sense to me to launch directly to mars..

The Lunar Rover is cool and I long to 2018 when we are going back to the Moon and establish a permanent base there. But the spacesuit is so fucking ugly! They should use the Bio Suit instead.

But I agree with you. But you have to think, public image is also important. You need to get people interested. That's a really big part of this. There's no reason why design can't somehow to incorporated, even if its minimal.

that backpack thing, is not a pack, it's more a door, didn't you watch the video? see how the only way from the rover into the suit is through the pack?

no they open the pack of the suits not the packs . i doubt they would go on the lunar surface in their suits with no oxygen or other equipment they need

Ya know? He "canceled" the previous lunar program. He claims it was "unimaginative". Meaning, the command & lunar module looked too much like the 60's version.  WTF? If it gets us back to the moon, looks aren't important! And WTF is this S#!T with 1 man/president, having total power to cancel entire space programs??? Each proceeding president becomes more and more like a freak'n King/Emperor than a president. I HATE to quote a Kanye song, but....No 1 man should have all that power.
