The majority of the "maintenance issues" the F22 has had have dealth with its RAM coating. That will now be corrected as the F35's RAM, which has prven to be much less of an issue, is being applied to the F22.
All aircraft have maintence issues, especially in their eariler years. As they mature those matters get fixed. And, you'll find that ground crews that work on the F22 say its one of the easiest birds to work on and get back into the air with very high sortie rates.

@aaritb No it doesn't. The miliary is quite pleased with the F22, and the USAF has said it meets or exceeds all expectations. The report you specify isn't from Obama, it was from the Washingtom Post. Congress demanded an investigation and found that the majoirty of the Post's accusations were false or misleading. And, the mantenance issue was primarily due to the F22's RAM, which is now being replaced with what is used on the F35. Those problems are expected to go away. And finally, the
T-50 will be inferior in stealth, avionics, situational awareness, and doesn't even meet the defintion of a 5th generation aircraft. The T-50 still needs new engines, and based on the Mig 35's performance in India, Russia has lots of work to do in that area. Heck, Russia cannot even build a decent AESA radar, which is integral for a 5th generation fighter.

@Devilion901 The F22 is not a huge waste of money. Considering that the PAK-FA hasn't even entered service, and that the FGFA is technolgy based on it, the FGFA won't be in service for many years. By that time the US will have something else. A recent report showed by the USAF of its desire to have a 6th gen a/c in service by ~ 2025. I have serious doubts that the FGFA will be in service by then.

And, if you read the MMRCA report you would have found that the F 16 and 18 did very well in the competition, unlike the the Mig 35 which came in last. It's very clear by the report that India has major concerns about the US's export control laws. As part of the the deal to acquire the MMRCA contract, the contractor had to transfer all technology, which cannot happen under our export-control regulations (EAR/ITAR)

The majority of the "maintenance issues" the F22 has had have dealth with its RAM coating. That will now be corrected as the F35's RAM, which has prven to be much less of an issue, is being applied to the F22.
All aircraft have maintence issues, especially in their eariler years. As they mature those matters get fixed. And, you'll find that ground crews that work on the F22 say its one of the easiest birds to work on and get back into the air with very high sortie rates.

In PAK - FA we talk about ...clean shape, low drag, super maneuverability with TVC, very very low RCS, large internal weapons carriage capability, large internal fuel so ---> no drop tanks required, AESA radar with what appears to be conformal arrays planned as well, IRST for passive hunting, sensor fusion with large cockpit displays and what appears to be superb build quality and next generation internal EW suite for sure

I still think that the days of multi-billion dollar fighter programs are over after F22, Typhoon and rafale etc. Why risk the investment and the pilot when the technology is there to fly pretty much any mission remotely? I doubt thrust vector will help Vs clouds of tiny drones!

This is why USAF needs to adopt more practical and cost effective fighters like the F-16XL and the F-15S/MTD. Those were excellent aircraft that never got the chance to see their full potential because most of the research went to the F-22A. Why my government spends so much tax-payer money to maintain a fleet of fighters we DON'T EVEN USE is beyond me. The Raptor is a useless piece of hardware; a late product of the Cold War leftover from the era.

@DrowningDoom22 Where do you propose to use F-22? F-22 against Libya would be a gross overkill since there are no radars to evade. Economically speaking F-22 shouldn't be used unless the opponent has a very capable SAM network and modern fighters. There is no conflict on at the moment that REQUIRES the use of F-22. Hence they stay in US. I wouldn't send F-22 to Lybia either.

If you want to know how wonderful the Raflae is just read the MMRCA report recently issed. It's an independent analysis of each aircraft in the competetion. You'll find that it is no better than the F16 and 18 being offered to India.

Russia Zhuk-AE AESA isn't even comparable to what is already in the USAF and USN fleet, and it's also not even ready for full production. F-15E outrunning Su-30. At max speed it will. How often do you see the planes doing max speed runs? They spend more time trying to dodge enemy. Running at max burner eats fuel massively. Eagle has inferior aero. Proven long ago.

Russian commanders have even said that the T-50 doesn't meet the defintion of a 5th generation fighter aircraft because its not stealthy enough nor does it have the necessary avionics . @aaritb No it doesn't. The miliary is quite pleased with the F22, and the USAF has said it meets or exceeds all expectations. The report you specify isn't from Obama, it was from the Washingtom Post. Congress demanded an investigation and found that the majoirty of the Post's accusations were false or misleading. And, the mantenance issue was primarily due to the F22's RAM, which is now being replaced with what is used on the F35. Those problems are expected to go away. And finally, the

T-50 will be inferior in stealth, avionics, situational awareness, and doesn't even meet the defintion of a 5th generation aircraft. The T-50 still needs new engines, and based on the Mig 35's performance in India, Russia has lots of work to do in that area. Heck, Russia cannot even build a decent AESA radar, which is integral for a 5th generation fighter.

By that time the US will have something else. A recent report showed by the USAF of its desire to have a 6th gen a/c in service by ~ 2025. I have serious doubts that the FGFA will be in service by then.

@Devilion901 Your comments are not based on facts. Don't make me laugh. And, if you read the MMRCA report you would have found that the F 16 and 18 did very well in the competition, unlike the the Mig 35 which came in last. It's very clear by the report that India has major concerns about the US's export control laws. As part of the the deal to acquire the MMRCA contract, the contractor had to transfer all technology, which cannot happen under our export-control regulations (EAR/ITAR)

@Devilion901 You laugh I my comment, when you make a comment about the FGFA being in service any time soon? Shit, Russia cannot even develop a decent AESA, which is essential for a 5th generation aircraft, and your giving me BS about it being superior to the F22. LMAO. BTW, the first production F35 went to the USAF last week. When 2025 comes the F22 will already have been in service for 20 years. So yes, it makes since that the Pentagon is already thinking about its replacement.
