@RedOfFlames The planet isn't all dessert. Recall the forest that Team Dai-Gurren 'formed" in? The planet is covered with plenty of vegetation. The only reason we see a lot of the parts without it is because the deserts are where the underground cities are(incidentally, Kamina city was built up from a series of close-together underground villages. Possibly Giha village and Littner.)

@allmyself666 It's a Gainex ending. If it'd ended in just another "everyone's happy" ending, it woulda been kinda typical^^;. Gainex has always been great at pointing out reality in media, specifically that you need to be willing to find happiness in what you can get, not in what you want. Simon and Nia got to see each other one last time, and they were happy. So I'm happy for them~
