  • Not because we are related but. Mic is an awesome Horn Player. At age 4, he got the trumpet and started playing, some people might called him a genius. I can tell you stories about him but his music speaks by itself. Many of us we will never get to be at his level of playing so just watch him enjoying music .

  • I would say that most of the folks making the negative comments lack the courage to make a video and post it. There are tons of players better than me. All I have encountered have been classy enough to offer encouragement and good advice on how to improve. There is nothing wrong with pointing out an area needing improvement when it is done in a constructive manner.

  • Good point LeviTrpt.

There is such a "sock puppet" mentality that exists on YouTube. Anonymous Amateurs hiding behind their laptops with no basis in their underdeveloped opinions cutting up seasoned pros like Mic Gillette. He can do no wrong in my opinion. Mic, youre still a young man!!!

  • uh mic this isnt tower of power this is haydn, big difference you obvoiusly failed to grasp

  • I wish you kids would realize the trash-talk you so easily pour out over the safety and anonymity of your home computers can come back to haunt you. Mic is a great trumpet player, and I'll go ahead and make the assumption that he's a lot better than you. He's a lot better than me. Will every video of him show his greatest performance? No. Neither are mine, check them out. I suck sometimes but I have fun, some are good, others are funny. You can hate all you want but go practice.

  • @levitrumpet I agree, live performances aren't always the best, and honestly, Mic is one of the best trumpet players alive today, including those like Marsalis, and Casserly.

  • Amazing the guy plays trombone as well!!! As a bone player, I can't imagine the transition from trumpet/flugelhorn to trombone in those sick concerts he plays with TOP. Kudos to him for playing some classical despite the fact he's a jazz/funk master. Truly a musician in every sense of the word. Probably enjoys every minute of it too......

  • lol who cares about classical he kicks ass at jazz

  • The band sounds great! The soloist does not. He does not have a sweet, pretty tone , nuance or grace that classical music calls for - definitely not his venue. He plays one dynamic, loud ahd brash. He should stick with jazz.

  • who cares he plays in TOWER OF POWER,best band on the planet

  • I don't care if classical isn't his best expression of music, EVERY musician should play in time and in tune no matter what discipline. Every player misses notes but he misses the mark. ..amateur performance at best. Did he rush the entrances because he had something else pressing to get home to?

  • @Flugelhornjazz you trumpet players are all worthless pieces of shit

  • It's just not pleasurable to listen to, imo. Its very loud, bright, not powerful in emotion. Attacks aren't clean. I'm not saying I could do it better, but I do know when this movement is played well. The vibrato is not exactly historically accurate (in style).

  • His intonation is horrible.

    terrible interpretation.

  • wow, he just glissed to the high concert A-flat in measure 38...

    no comment

  • a little to fast for me, but otherwise very good.

  • it was really interesting hearing vince di martino play this at the great american brass band festival

  • I'll just put my two cents in and say Mic is probably one of the best technical, jazz, classical, EVERYTHING trumpet players alive. He can do anything with that freakin horn, and he does it better than anyone on this earth if you ask me.

  • Good tone. Not so good style.

  • it's always interesting to hear a jazz guy play classical or a classical guy play jazz....

  • I dis agree..

It is the same when Maurice Andre plays Jazz, it is simply not worth listening...

A few players mannege to handling both generes. As an example is Wynton Marsalis

  • I agree. Doc Severinson is also excellent in both genres. Mr. Gillette just doesn't seem to understand the classical approach.

  • Hey, fisk7aal. Your comment sucks this is my mentor. Mic is the humblist man I know. He performed the Carnival of Venice at age 8. What were you doing at 8 yrs old? Playing with your skin flute.

  • Mic Gillette is amazing this video does not do him justice. But if you have ever heard mic play Carnival of venice then you will find out how much of a trumpet god her really is. Mic is cool he is hella funny ive taken lessons with him.

  • He is only playing the notes, no art...

  • What an idiot, do mean no farts? That what your attacks sound like. Mic hardly ever gets play classical music, he was a child protege at age 8 he played the Carnival of Venice for a jury for The Berkley School of music. Why don't you go give your teacher a dirty sanchez. F OFF

  • I think you mean PRODIGY.

  • woah, I've never seen Mic play classical! haha, cool stuff.

I actually had the chance to meet and work with Mic back when I was in 7th grade... wish I could have played with him again senior year in high school or something. funny guy, great player (lead in Tower of Power for those of you who don't know).

  • bravo!

  • You're a very good player!!!
