Nice to hear them singing together and not struggling against each other in this recording, maybe the best rendition of them singing together. Says a lot for the benefits and the contribution of amateur recording.
Feeling a little nostalgic for Kate's voice, I stumbled on this tonight. I was at this show in 2007. What an amazing moment this was. I cried from the first note to the last of this song when they played it live, and cried again tonight. Thank you so much for posting this.
This was sung and played by the entire Transatlantic sessions band in belfast last Thursday in Kate's honour ... one of the most moving tributes I've ever seen.
I just reviewed a few of their performances singing this song throughout the world and must say this one is their best. Thanks for posting it. The sound quality is amazing too.
Emmylou Harris sang the song at Kate's funeral this week. It was our turn to bid farewell to Kate.
I am a huge fan of Ronstadt. She always said this song made her cry and listening to her version(thousands of times!), I could NEVER understand why. Now, I can.
with you all the way with your comment - I met her Kate once and while she was not much older than me she was like a mom to me in a difficult time of my life - a truly lovely woman and sadly missed
Great song, one of my favorites. But the camera work sucks. Tip: Set it on manual focus, zoom all the way in, focus, zoom out - picture stays in focus whether you zoom in or out. NO AUTOFOCUS!
Echo JARABAA, re those just discovering incredible parents of Rufus/Martha/ Lucy. If that's you, DO go hear more of Kate/Loudon. Under-exposed gems.
To DUK70: Ronstadt no doubt "sang this song much better". On a studio album, vs Mich live stage (who wldn't?). But artistic appreciation involves context/back story,,,, Who wrote it? About whom? And who's looking lovingly on? KATE wins handily. And her longtime pal/collaborator LRondstadt wld be the first to agree.
Nice to read the comments from people who know Rufus and Martha - but are only now becoming acquainted with their mother, who should be known as the legendary Kate McGarrigle. How wonderful to see and hear her here. And Rufus is right, this is a great song. I hope he can compose some as great as this one. Guess he needs to get "strung out on a man", though, as Joni Mitchell would put it. And that's the origin of this song and other McGarrigle greats. "Won't you say: come with me?"
i've always been huge fans of the McGarrigle sisters. it's so cool now to see a new generation of incredible talent with the same last name in both Martha and Rufus!

Linda Ronstadt sang this song much better! She has a wide range and a pretty and touchy voice.

Just when you think you've outgrown some things then out of the blue something wonderful happens and bang on it reminds of what really matters...
Absolute bliss!

I was there. They sounded fantastic in The Hill. Was a real treat, great to hear to stories about Ann Arbor, too.
