You dont need to listen to shift its all on feeling the power curve and vibration of the engine if you ride dirt bikes or shifter karts put in ear phones and krank it yes u can still hear when your rommping on the throttle but for the most part thats a great way to experince being deaf its not as hard as most think and in some ways is an advantage for shirt shifters
Nice smooth lines! You've obviously run that track a few times! Yes, you can definitely FEEL the torque peak on a shifter kart. It is probably a better indication of when to shift than listening to the sound of the engine....especially when you are wheel to wheel with a bunch of other karts!!
heyy=) i didnt expect to see you use sign langauges, i went to a deaf schhol all my life and nw i moved to a public school in 9th grade this year. did u attend to FSDB "florida school for the deaf and the blind" ?
@dominicerrigo really? thats good you didint go to a deaf school cuz its not good there. alot of deaf people that were mainstreamed sucess better that the one in the deaf school.
my cousin is deaf but he rides dirt bikes. i have no idea how he knows when to shift cause he cant use the sound of the engine as a guide and he doesnt have a light to tell him like in some cars. mad props dude. i think its amazing how people that cant even here can shift when there supposed. i know i couldnt do that lol
The way I do it is not to look at the gages...I do shift when the torque curve ends not redlining it. One time, I did experiment it by using redlining on every shift loses about 2 second of a lap. If you do that in a race, you'll be lapped by a leading racer approximately 13th lap on this track.
I agree with Terga the fact that you race without hearing is amazing, especaly in a shifter. If you're ever back out at P1 I'd love to acctually see you race and race with you would be an honor in my opinion. It's an amazing sight to see somone with any kind of handicap racing. Example is: I've seen a parapalegic race (Paralized from the waist down) and he did pretty good given his condition.
I too run shifter karts and it is not a stretch of the imagination when you say they run to 60 and 100mph that quickly. To pull 4G's though takes pretty much ideal conditions, if even possible at all. Sticky tires, perfect track conditions and a driver willing and able to maintain this in the kart. Not saying it's impossible, but saying a kart pulls 2-3G's is much more realistic. Either way, they are impressive little machines and fee vehicles of any sort compare to them.
lmao! haha, well i been racing for years on so many karts and now im onto single seater racing... like the radical and well i can't imagen 4g on 1 of these as just the tires are so tiny and looking at the vid the cornering speed is so so so slow
Look for fuck sake, why is youtube a fucking retard letting people who havnt even drove 1 of these peices of shit comment...
THIS DOES NOT DO ANYWHERE NEAR 3G i know, i used to have a shifter kart, then got a mini max, i know, as they all use the same tyres... they drift so easy with out applying the throttle, u can't get them sticky enough, u would have to widen the tyre so much to acomplish going 2.5G...
look at a road car?? that does a max of 2G, look at the size of the tyre?
You can probably get a little harder on the brakes. Keep braking until you miss the apex and then move the breaking zone back a bit. Drops tons of time
Just wondering do you own one of these karts or do you rent one for a hour or so? and not trying to be a dick or anything but since you are deaf can you still talk?
No need to feel sorry about our deafness. It's just an ear and drivers don't need to listen things like myself. It does enhance my driving focus without hearing all kinds of noises. Believe or not, I go .5 seconds quicker without wearing hearing aids. Pretty interesting.
Short shifters not shirt

I only do redlining some areas of the track.

these karts would be lucky to get to 3g in the corners...
owens10101 2 years ago
4g is a true figure, ive seen it elsewhere.
once the tires are hot they get unbelievably sticky to the point where you cannot lift the kart off the ground stright after pulling into the pits

yea lol not in this vid or on any track, but on a skid pan maybe.
i do agree though 4g is a huge figure, the best supercars barely break 1g. im just saying ive seen it elsewhere and that its perhaps believable.
these really are the most agile thing on 4 wheels, my TM-K9 shifter does 0-100-0 (km/h) in 6 seconds on hot tyres starting in 2nd gear

yes i would... you would be EXTREAMLY lucky go get the 3g... those shit tyres would shredd if u put that amount of pressure on them.

the track has some bumpy areas...at one point, all 4 wheels are off the ground.

If you see my right hand pulling the shifter knob means that I'm upshifting and if I'm pushing forward on the shifter knob means I'm downshifting.
You don't need to use the clutch to shift and you can stay on the gas while upshifting and lift the gas while downshifting.
dominicerrigo 2 years ago
I know I'm gonna sound like a total dumbass, but how do you shift a shifter cart?
