  • Elkie Brooks sings it sooooooo much better !!!

  • rachelle ann go version is better

  • when you have a good voice louder is always better.

  • Don't Climb Out Loud, Jus keep it outside, earn don't sidestep ur truffles...

  • No, I meant "Ice Castles" by Melissa Manchester from the Movie "Ice Castles"!

    Hawaiian Dave

  • love the music... too bad the video's all messed up

  • What a disaster!

  • I've listened to many different people sing this song including Shirley Bassey (who rocks!), but Melissa is the one and only original for this song!! LOVE it! :)

  • i think Diana Degarmo killed this better, sorry

  • @janetfan2010 I just watched Diana's youtube version that first popped up. She did an awesome job! I think that Melissa's recorded version is better though. I loved her "Ice Castles" song has well. Hawaiian Dave

  • @ideasmaster don't u mean "Cardboard Castles" by Diana?

  • @janetfan2010 I think that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard anybody say in 25 years of youtube history, sorry

  • @celloprofundo And to think the internet does not even excist that long haha;-)

  • @Choefoe To say someone killed a song better, just makes my brain shut-down ; ), it goes against everything I learned in 12 years of English AND Science.. ; )..who used to say "Does not compute.."? Spock? 3CP0? .The robot from Lost in Space? Janetfan's tutor? ..I mean, when you're dead, aren't you DEAD? Like this brain-dead song? Peter Allen wrote it, no wonder, the Schmaltz King...Didn't Al Gore say he invented the internet 25 yrs. ago? :) ..He never did compute ; }..no, that was Quayle..

  • @celloprofundo ah,that was the robot in SW ofcourse ;-)coruscant, eh does not compute! ;-) I red in a science magazine the brain never really dies, if it,s in a petry dish and they trigger it the brain starts to give waves on the ps haha, how.s that for a shock to keep it in turns, talk about being braindead, seems not really possible, well ok all relative then the brain in the petry dish does not talk or something but hey, reminds me of a movie called "robocop"scary aint it ;-)

  • @Choefoe .."The mind is a terrible thing" .but terrible can also mean awesome..someone famous said "all our moments are contained in this moment"...no wonder it's a miracle we can tie our shoes..thank goodness our files are de-fragmented in our dreams..and deleted by time..and mystifed and mythologized by the mists of mis-interpretation and exaggeration...and..wait a minute, isn't that the definition of work, your brain in a petry dish? Fishbowl? They feed you dollars? I gots a head-ache.. ; )

  • @celloprofundo It's petri, actually.

  • @mesonsdad ..is that chemistry or biology, because I did petri well in biology, chemistry, not so much..probably had a little brain scramble because I'd just got done explaining to someone how Glenn Beck should be in Tom Petry and the Heartbreakers song, "Jammin' Me"...do you say 'peet-tree' or 'pet-tree' ? .thanks

  • @celloprofundo If it's any consolation, I have a wooden hand...I actually always pronounce it Petrie, in honor of the Van Dyke Comedy Extravaganza which aired last century. I thought it was Glenn Campbell!

  • @mesonsdad Rob Petry..wow, haven't heard that name since the sixties ; )..wasn't Mary tyler moore hot back then?..now she reminds me jack nicholson as the Joker..that wasn't betty white in that show too, was it?..I went to school with glenn campbell's nephew, really, and he said glen was a real stuck-up asshole at family re-unions..but if you knew my class-mate you really couldn't blame glenn ; )

  • @celloprofundo This may be a little off the subject, but, how bout them Giants? As in...Land of? 60's production, little or no techno-shame then! We were, collectively, just sproutin our techno-pubes then; a much cleaner, more innocent time. Well, sure, they DID have cigarette ads on TV, but, well...I digress...Glenn Campbell, Rooster Wayne's sidekick - Texican...what was I gonna say?

  • @mesonsdad You were gonna say does waxing nostalgic make one feel better or worse, or both ? ; ) Like to know myself ; )...HI CHOEFOE !!! I LUFF YOU !!..gotta run...

  • @celloprofundo U, my dear, are CLASSIC!

  • @mesonsdad I think it makes you feel better because it would be terrible not to be able too (too) ...wax...wonder if you can get a bikini wax for old times saki..(hic!)..from what I can remember saki is TERRIBLE..like drinking soy sauce...wait a minute..; D

  • @Choefoe ex-cist has NEVER existed in this version of the English language. Well, ex-SIST(er-in-law) maybe. Ex-Cyst? Don't wanna touch that one. Splat!

  • @Choefoe just one more thing...present tense, post-traumatic tents in drone.

  • @mesonsdad Wij Nederlanders waren toch het eerst in Amerika haha;-)

  • @mesonsdad Now write me back in Dutch and don,t make any grammar mistakes, ;-) I dare you ;-)

  • @Choefoe I give. U do have far superior English skills to 83% of my fellow Americans...KUDOS!

  • no one sings it like Melissa

  • This has been and I think will ALWAYS be the BEST versionj of this song! I just LOVE it!! :)

  • She nowhere near does it justice

  • this girl is a true entertainer! I wish i was at that show. thanks for posting!

  • how can anyone not like such a powerful tune sung so wonderfully. Thanks for the add

  • I love this song and so wonderful to finally see Melissa sing it!! Yes, Shirley Basset does a great job, but Melissa was the original!! :) love it Thank you

  • This is great! The next best version is just been posted. Search:

---Jal Joshua Don't Cry Out Loud.---

The song is dubbed over a video but is the one from his album and is fantastic!!!!

  • she doesn't even look like she is straining.

  • Shes definitely Jewish.

There are so many other worthy tunes on this LP that are better musically than this one, but none of them got airplay. I know its all about the bleeding heart. To make you smile again, caravan are better tunes i think.

She had her moment in the sun.

  • It's such a powerful Peter Allen composition; so evocative! Thanks so much for the post

  • WOW! love a gut's and all performance... what a great vocal musician.

  • Oh, how I adore the beautiful and talented Melissa Manchester. What a unique performer. Seeing this clip today for the first time really made my day. THANKS for posting it! :)

  • Great!!

  • Whatever happened to Melissa? Is she still trying to sing?

  • still gives me chills.. awesome!!

  • i sing the filipino tune sorry melissa but im still ur fan love yah

  • one of the greatest voices in history!!

  • So?

  • Since this was 1979 even a great ballad like this prob had a tough time at radio stations. It might have done better chartwise if the song came out in 1980 or '81. It is still a great song.

  • You're right cause it still gets airplay. Hell I heard it on a local station from Toronto this afternoon.

  • Hi dizzi0000,

It doesn't matter which nationality the singer is. To me, what is important is how well the singer performs, intepret the song, and the power of her voice. To me, both the talented Ms Melissa Manchester & Dame Shirly Bassey outshines Elkie in all aspects. This is my opinion. Please do not be upset.

  • Thanks for your message. I agree...she's awesome!
