  • It proves how good Layne Staley was when everyone from Maynard to Sebastian Bach struggles to churn out the same performance when they do an AiC cover...

  • i personally think scott weiland is the one who sing laynes songs as closest to the original as u can get i mean nobody will ever touch laynes greatness but scotts voice does the songs justice plus hes life and struggles r very similar to laynes

  • Why couldn't have Maynard replaced Layne, only other man on earth I could think of which could fill his position, if anyone even can that is.

  • Staley is amazing, one of the best voices iv heard in my life. Keenan on the other

hand has one of the most unique and addictive voices exists. i personally don't see

similarity between the two, also Keenan is not 25 years old anymore and his voice today

isn't his voice in Ænima so its pointless to compare them..

my personal favorite between the two is MJK, i just think he's got the most

unique and addictive voices exists, but i also LOVE Layne.

    nice gesture anywayz :)

  • the last verse, sounds like the rest of the bands vocals are sad... you can here it.

  • maynerds voice is comparable to laynes, not by sound, but the passiion behind their lyrics

  • holy crap.

  • Who's playing guitar to Jerry's left?

  • no one can ever sing in the key of lane on this song i dont know why its just such a original song

  • I love it when my to most favorite bands do things with each other. AIC and TOOL are so amazing... now if soundgarden got slipped in there the world would be complete. Although I don't think they are allowed to do this, because the world would explode from sheer godlike performance.

  • WHY DID THIS GUY NOT REPLACE LAYNE, INSTEAD OF DUVALL?!?!?!

  • @1TheBusyBody94 ... because he is already in an epic Band called TOOL!

If Tool, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden were to ever all collaborate on a few songs... I think I would die from the awesomeness that is Alice's Toolgarden....

  • @EvilassProductions hahah so true, chris cornell and Maynard would sound INCREDIBLE together

  • i watched Phil Anselmo sing would, now im watching maynard sin bones. ALL three are my top 3 favorite band, FUCK YEAH!!!! I prayed for this lmao.

  • i fuckin wish i was here

  • No Lane Staley whatsoever, but a definite "A" for effort and loving ur friends!

  • the first 45 seconds of this are like being 5 again on Christmas morning....

  • some say we're born into the grave

  • @jamesun25 Yeah we all heard that and knew it already.

  • check out Bye the Abandoned!!!!!!

  • Maynard is pretty good, but he's no Layne Staley

  • @capnkdawg

Nope, he's much, much, much more.

  • @ChAoTiC559 Maynard better than Layne Staley? I must highly disagree

  • @capnkdawg He's still alive so that makes him better I guess...

  • @rottencore0 Layne's voice was much better

  • @ChAoTiC559 nobody ever was or ever will be better than rip layne staley period

  • Repeat times infinity

  • ..faaack...makes me wonder...

  • 0:14 "Jack Sparrow!"

  • lol at all you people comparing maynard and laynes voice, two of the best.

  • I would love to give the usual comment about the 14 dislikes, but i will justify their response, They Loved Lane a lot more!

  • Is it me or are most the pictures photo shopped in?

  • @TheJustNsane lol they are

  • this is cool and i love maynard but there is only one layne staley

  • he killed man in the box! 0.0 OH MY GOD!

  • Maynard just kills Man in The Box, amazing

  • a combination of two of my favorite bands

  • @MKGellAxx Totally agree

  • Maynard James Keenan wouldd have been perfect for AIC

  • lol asshole.

  • this sounds incredible. well done my friend

  • Maynard MUST Join AIC Right away!

  • I would have sexually molested my own mother to be at this show.

  • i really wish somehow mjk and cantrell could collab and do an album kinda jar of flyish with some tpc and not so much cantrell in back up or better yet cantrell lead mjk back up not that might be specail

  • Amazing show to say the least, it sold out in 10 minutes and I was fortunate enough to get 2 tickets. was right in front of the stage for this. The floor was crazy.

  • Haha, I love the photoshops of Maynard with Chains. Especially the obvious ones.

  • sorry guys, the original voice is so fuckin better!

  • stupid cow the guy who makes this video cuz at 2005 layne was dead ¬¬

  • @swardsor its maynard dumb ass not layne

  • AWESOME

  • Man I would have said this was Layne. Sounds just like him.

  • Maynard is the fucking master.

    13 people are idiots !

  • @LinkinFranzen Proof that at least 13 people have terrible taste in music

  • "I'mmmm the Maynard. in. the. BOX!"

  • too bad they didnt play grind. that wouldve been sick.

  • The sound quality on this is fantastic. Where did you get this from? Is it from a new source?

The only recording I know of is mine that I recorded and released soon after the show happened.

If this is my source that someone worked on I say Great Job!

We need to talk. I'd love for you to remaster the whole show. I've got both the acoustic and electric sets.

  • @ConcertFreakSeattle It was in a torrent file. I havent remastered it or anything... =)

  • @992171B

    dude

can u link me to the torrent

  • Both my favorite singers of all time Maynard James Keenan and Layne Staley

  • BROTHER MY ENEMY....CHECK EM OUT!!

  • Maynard is probably the best guest frontman AIC had. He closely resembles Layne's voice in way. Cause it's not as harsh as when James Hetfield or Phil Anselmo sang for them.....Maynard sings AIC's songs like AIC. not like tool or APC.

  • @LaynesQueen He sang it like Maynard would.

  • epicness across the board

  • It be nice to see AIC and Tool tour together if they do stuff like this

  • HOLY CRAP!!!!! This would have been awsome to see live!

  • Just about the only voice that could take Layne's place on these songs. Both are in the top 10 of best rock voices EVER.

  • @QCat65 it was good, I think Phil sounds best outta everyone that sang with them.

  • These are the best top comments ive ever seen lol

  • @QCat65 Ugh, I can't stand Keenen. Or maybe its from Tool. I hate Tool with a passion. I can appreciate him but I don't have to like him. And I think Duvall has done a damn well job playing them!! :-)

  • @csvb44 Well, the world wouldn't go around if we didn't have people hating things most love. People who hate Tool mostly does because of us fans, because some of us are just... way outta hand and takes concerts like a religious or spiritual experience. Excuse the crazies please.

  • @berryhill88 theres nothing wrong with feeling seeing Tool as a great expierience, it opens up a persons mind to it i guess in a positive way, but i wouldnt say religious, or spritual, just great positive energy.

  • @QCat65 Why did no one ask Scott Weiland?

  • @KataarSolo - why did no one ask Weiland? I don't know! I would have! He was probably in rehab at the time, again.

  • @KataarSolo actually weiland did sing angry chair with them and ripped it up just as good as maynard did on these 2 songs R.I.P layne i will never forget your voice

  • @QCat65 Mike Patton's got to be in their?

  • Sweet pics man!

  • Maynard is the only singer I've heard that sounds like a different yet equally powerful singer doing these songs since Layne.

  • This was cool but Layne is irreplacable. If you don't think so, go listen to the original man in the box or them bones. These are Laynes songs.

  • @whoandtheha Both are irreplacable. Maynard is one of the best and most unexpected guest vocalists I could picture performing with AIC

  • @whoandtheha maynard james keenan is the best possible replacement for layne though

  • EXCELLENT! Awesome work with the video editing, even when it was not what i was looking for... Thumbs up!

  • I've been waiting for a decent recording of those songs with Maynard. And great job with the photo editing. Fuckin sweet!!

  • nice job of editing tho XD looks pretty ligit

  • Photoshop Bad uses xD

    the audio sounds cool

  • Dont care about the pics...

But thanks for sharing this awesome audio!

  • duvall can sing good, but he doesn't fit alice in chains well. He doesen't sound like the grunge/ metal type.

  • awesome! maynard kicked ass.

  • @fuckaducklol I beg to differ. Maynard is not a better singer. I love Tool and AIC both. But Layne way better, most people don't ever pick up the emotion in Laynes voice in every song hes ever sang. And you can't even really compare the bands they are in completely different genres. AIC and Tool don't sound anything alike. And the meaning to their songs are completely different. Tool sings more about one thing, and AIC sings about another.

  • @ripdimebag6969 i beg to differ. you are mistaking an opinion for a fact, now your opinion is worthless.

  • I love aic I love tool I love pantera I love metallica I love nirvana.. So many.. I love THEM ALL!!! I love the music and i want to see and hear it ALL!!!

  • holy fuck...AIC are fuckin' awesome!!Having Maynard with them is simply a stroke of genius.wow...

  • don't get me wrong people. both maynard and layne are amazing! i think my last post was misunderstood. I was stating that i didn't much care for the new vocalist AIC picked up. cuz lord knows layne and maynard are my all time favorite vocalist!

  • the best tribute ever, Maynard.

  • much better than i could do though..

  • these pictures are defiantly edited..

  • @Samitch04 Since i made them, the answer is yes.

  • @992171B nicely done tho, holy shit

  • @992171B And you were defiant when you edited them, so yeah.

  • @Samitch04 defiantly? or definitely?

  • @ablrcklnthewall DEFINITELY

  • @Samitch04 I think he was talking about the audio, not the pics.

  • Holy fucking shit NOT ONE PERSON has a video of this?

  • @jayyynigga140 its because we had shitty phones like the razr and sidekick... no iphones or droids to take videos with

  • i was named after layne and tool is one of my favorite bands this is godly!

  • @22rawrrawr I named my son after layne also, seen tool couple weeks ago, gonna see AIC Oct 1

  • Damn, that was great!

  • wow, it is so obvious they were shopped-Maynard's body is always darker or lighter or another colour XD

and his posture compared to them! I dont think he would be axe-kicking across the stage while they are sittin there all chill LOL

still, nice job though, some were kinda close looing

  • @itschewingu Maynard always paints himself and wears weird outfits.

  • @destroysubgenres He hasn't painted himself since 2002-03.

  • @nedak Oh, he till wears weird outfits, I saw some cool ones on the recent tours

  • JUST LOVING IT

  • Damnit Maynard tour with AIC!

  • @w1nd0 I'd like it if they did an album with Maynard using all original material. I think it would be the shit

  • Them bones- favorite song by AIC

    Maynard- Favorite vocalist

put the two together, I feel like major karma is generated by an event like this. >>

  • Wish I was there for this. I saw AIC in Huntington WV on the 19th, and they were amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jesus Christ!! There is a God! Pretty sure I just wet myself.

  • Well.... There is only one Layne, and no one can sing his songs better then him ... but this is ok ... and Tool are great band ...

  • Those two make such a great duo. Their voices totally complement each other.

  • love AIC but Maynard fucking kicks serious ass

  • woooww... 8))))

FUCKEN AMAZING!!! :) love this!!! Maynard n Layne Some of the greatest fucken singers out there :) LOVE IT!!! \m/

  • @metallicarockssss yeahh dude that's the true

  • @metallicarockssss eh hate to break this to you but Layne is dead. this is Jerry, maynard and Duvall singing

  • @dilandinho76 Nop, this is before duvall joined alice in chains

  • Maynard taxi driver

  • ahahahahahah è vero!!!

  • una de las mejores bandas del mundooooo alice in chains con ft. vocalista de tool otro bandonnnnnnnn y una de las mejores rolassssss man in the box

  • AiC are good live.

And AiC an Maynard together.... awesome.

  • dude that would have been the shit.

  • If i got to see this, i would have shit my pants.

  • true dat

  • yeah awesome i agree with toolisgod1, no one can sing better than maynard, all you nerds that spend all day reading these comments can go to hell u fucking losers, get a life and please save the embarrassment and DON't reply back because i will find u and slit your little acne ridden throat, PUSSYS

  • No one can sing better than Maynard, but did you have to say all that other stuff?

  • @socialdice13 i replied motha fuckah are you gonna find me and slit my throat? huh? HUH????

Fuck you buddy and kill yourself...do the world a favor.....and yes maynard james keenan fucking RULES!!!! fyi i am no nerd just like starting shit on the internet to ppl who talk bullshit because like me...we're all bullshitters....so suck it you fucking fag

  • if any of you haters think you can sing better than maynard go ahead and pick up the mike, dipshits. go back to world of warcrafts u stupid fags

  • I like the background vocals on this version of Man In the Box. Is that both Jerry and William in the background?

  • lol @chiefmojorising yeahhhh maynard has no stage presence..... you cant take your eyes off the man when hes on stage cause you have no idea what to expect out of him. not just standing there. now to voices, maynard is an incredible singer but layne has that raw growl singing voice that not many people can even touch. maynard is the better lyricist in my opinion. its all a matter of your personal tastes and opinion

  • @zepp2se7en agreed on the personal tastes and opinion...it's maynard singing chains...it's not gonna sound like layne...however stage presence isn't whether you stand still or run all over...it's about drawing people...maynard is fuckin crazy and whether he stands next to danny in the back of the stage or bends over backwards dancing, everyone is looking for what he's gonna do for 90% of the show...you can't stop watching him during a tool show or any other appearance for that matter

  • Mine lol!

  • ahhh! all these comments are too long! so i thought i would leave a short one :)

  • @zakkalaska god damn you're right....mines shorter!

  • it would be like trying to put 2 stereos together one with AIC music and the other with the Vocal trax from TOOL and trying to sync them. furthermore susan. I dont really think its that good.aside from being recorded on someones cassette recorder from the 80s, it sounds like someone totally different.... and Layne staley doesnt have a good voice.maynard has a GOOD voice. Staley has a very unique voice. its like wine. give wine to a teen see if they like it..but apparently people own vineyards :)

  • someone said that staley had to put more emphasis, or umph into reaching those notes, which gave it a more hearty sound, totally agree.... and that maynard probably approached these songs more technically than soulfully..... (I would think) the irony of it, is that maynards voice has been likened to Alice in Chains numerous times, most notably the NY Times, and maybe for some thats true, but if Maynard sang with AIC it would be like Audioslave.... where did they go?

  • That's what I meant..harder....listen to those songs. Maynard sounds like a wimp compared to layne.

  • I meant Layne could scream better than Maynard too. Listen to those songs I posted..Layne had soooo much more intensity. Layne had a blood curdling yell that rattles your insides.

  • I think Maynard's a far better lyricist than lane, and has more of a stage presence; but vocals for me it's hands down Layne. You have to had seen AIC live to be able to appreciate it (I'm assuming you did too). Layne's voice just had this latent, power to it (I think maybe because it had this idiosyncratic evil to it). In an indoor venue, the only other singer I've seen who could peel the paint off the f'ing walls like him was Chris Cornell.

  • Or maybe that's not accurate, as the Reverend can definitely peel the paint off the wall. Maybe it's in the way that it was done. Maynard's voice is more operatic, "better" I guess you could say; where Layne's was like a struggling cat dying when he turned up the volume which made it all the more sinister. At any rate, Tool at UCSD in '98 and AIC at UCI in '93 both rate in my top 5 shows. And that's out of more concerts I can name.

  • Layne did pinch quite a bit didnt he. Any less of a singer and would lose resonance and stamina. Layne had tons of it for someone who did strain into head voice a bit. But then again, watch the Music Bank home videos where he's singing we die young in the studio...he looks relaxed as fuck; his posture is right, head slightly up, the whole nine. It doesnt at all look like he's yelling or using any kind of vocal fry because of how quickly he finds those notes with that much grit.

  • Although I was old enough to remember AIC fully from 1993 on (thanks beavis and butthead!) never got to see them. Maynard has fantastic lyrics and they are certainly more poetic and descriptive than Layne's, Layne does have more intensity than him. When I listen to Love Hate Love, I have a hard time thinking Maynard can hit yells that blood chilling. As for Cornell..lord that man has a huge voice, but watching his live videos from 1992 on back, he hadn't grown into it until 1994 or 1995.

  • I should add, that pitch-wise and vocal timbre..Layne and Maynard are pretty equal. They both have wonderful voices. Its just on the intense stuff, Layne's got way more grit and growl by a long shot. 'Man in The Box', 'We Die Young' and 'Love Hate Love' are proof enough of that statement. Very true, Maynard does have stage presence on Layne. Maynard moves around, while Layne is more of a brooding, stationary singer. Hopes this clears up my thoughts on the two.

  • stage presence?? Maynard?? HAHAHA what are you talking about dude he doesn't even stand on the stage he stands behind a freakin court and behind screens and shit..

  • @chiefmojorising1 wrong, he stand at the back of the stage, he used to stand in the front and act insane. he's not angry anymore as millions of dollars and pussy will do that to a man. he is in front of the screens and occasioanly will go a little wacky, but its not who he is anymore. who gives a fuck what he does, as long as he sings.

  • @muttonbuster You're so lucky to have seen all those shows... I'm too young and it wouldn't really be same seeing them today as in the 90's, I guess...

And besides, no great bands visit Norway, where I live, anyway

  • @TheFragile89 Not even close to hitting it like Layne did...listen to we die young or love hate love and tell me Layne doesn't have Maynard whipped

  • He doesn't, by a long shot. Maynard sounds fucking incredible, and yes much better than the original.

I'd love to have been in the crowd for this.

  • its the same not but maynard hits it easily because he is a higher ranged singer, while layne has to strain his voice whitch gives it that intense driving sound. To argue which singer is better is pointless, both rank among the best in the world.

  • I meant to say "note" in the first sentence.

  • wow maynard does a GREAT job with them bones. live, that song is hard to pull off.

  • Maynard and Layne were close friends.

  • @TheFragile89 what.. why would ppl thumbs down this.. Maynard can scream Alot louder. ive seen them both live and have all there cds. maynards got the pipes. dont get me wrong. both amazing artists, and its a shame so many die of drugs. glad maynard is smarter than that so he can keep giving us amazing music.

  • Maynard is amazing on so many levels as a singer, but he and Layne had different approaches towards singing, whereas Layne might have had more power when belching it out (because he probably needed that to reach the higher notes), Maynard probably has more of a technical approach. They're both fucking awesome.

  • Tool and AIC are my two favorite bands of all time. They're are both different and the same in so many ways.

  • This was fucking cool.
