They could make a good movie, they just would have to put a lot of realism into it. Whenever they turn any anime into movies they always make the characters look cheezy, everything in the world around them is perfect (like spotless and perfectly made) and that is not the reality of the world. Obviously Spike's real character could not have his giant hair that would look stupid. Or the spaceship be perfectly clean, look at the people who live in it? They are cigarette smokers & bounty hunters
This can be done, as long as there isn't an attempt to replicate every aspect. Some things just can't be replicated from anime into the physical world and have the same quality as something that was originally designed to be created in the physical world. The characters appearances will have to deviate from their anime counterparts. Someone walking around in real life with Spike's haircut would look silly and distracting; though there are already established messy-hair looks to substitution for.
I'd like to see a Japanese actor unknown to Americans play Vicious. Tho' Fay Valentine is a typically American name, I'd make her Japanese as well(don't agree? Rememberthe lawyer guy's name who helped her escape the cryo-sleep joint?). Other AMV posters here suggested Bruce Willis for Jet(the Mummy is too tall!), Gwyneth Paltrow for Spike's old flame & an 'unknown' young ballet artist for Ed--I agree. Jim Carry be perfect for Spike. Tall,slender, simular face & CERTAINLY a simular 'tude'.
I know Animation doesn't translate well to live action, but you guys should look up Zachary Levi. He's pretty much the closest actor in terms of looks to Spike Spiegel. He would also fit the role if you watch Chuck. Give him the hair and the persona and he would be identical, even height wise he fits.
I can't help but hope they'll go with a loose adaption and try to make it good. For instance, Spike's fro looks cool in the anime, but ridiculous on almost any real actor.
But, silly me, I'm assuming that they'll actually get around to making this!

I'm so scared for this movie, their going to screw up a really good anime. When will they leave a good thing alone, and Keanu Reeves looks far from what Spike is suppose to look like. Lets hope they get at least 5% of the movie right....asking for 100% might cause them to break a blood vessel.

I dont know why it is your doubting it, i mean we got a pretty big actor which should mean a pretty good budget and also we got a good director/script writer who has seen the entire show and not only that but they say the first script he did was so damn good it would cost 500,000,000 dollars, so of course he will be doing a re write. I believe it will be good, definitely better than that dragonball fail.

wow this movie is going to be as LAAAAAAAME as Dragonball, I am going to be so heartbroken when my fave anime in the world is destroyed by a live action movie starring the lame keanu reeves playing the coolest guy in the galaxies. Sigh, this is depressing.

@chimjim89 Spike Speigel. Dead serious at some points, extremely joking at others. Keanu Reeves is a great choice for him. Who the hell else were they going to pick? And the reason Dragonball Evolution blew so much is because it was completely different from actual Dragonball. If I was to watch it the only thing that would tell me it was Dragonball was the names. This movie however is being closely watched on by the original creators, and is being produced with Sunrise, inc.
