  • cool better to know

  • @kickingsaturdaymiami Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks for the tutorial! Question, what are you using to create those motion graphics? After Effects or Motion? Looks great!

  • @kojaknyc Hi. The intro graphics were in fact created with After Effects. Thanks for watching! Glad you dig the look and hopefully your finding the content resourceful as well. Let us know if you have any video suggestions by writing to us at Questions@WinkSound(dot)com

  • I've tried this, but why don't I get a level reading on the audio tracks when I play? It's only when I record that I get a reading and even this is low and I have to use the Bus fader to boost the signal. It would help to be able to set levels before I have to record, hearing and seeing the audio as you would if a 'live' instrument was playing.

  • piss the ads off youtube

  • this is cool., but i need to know how to do the opposite. audio tracks into MIDI files.. thanks

  • @metalupyourass9 Hi. Not sure if there's a native Audio to MIDI conversion tool in Pro Tools. You can use third party software like Melodyne which is great at converting audio to midi. I'll send you a link to a tutorial on how to do so.

  • @metalupyourass9 Hi, thanks for tuning. We'll keep your suggestion in mind for future tutorials. Let us know if you've found a work-around.

  • Hey Justing. Thanks for the vid. I have a question in my head for about 6 months right now...I see a lot of ppl on youtube make new MONO tracks instead of STEREO tracks. Why would I want to use MONO? thnx!

  • @Sytrusze Hi, thanks for getting touch. Mono tracks are used for monophonic audio files and Stereo tracks carry stereophonic audio files. The main difference between the two is that Stereo files have both a Left and Right channel where Mono files only have 1 centered audio channel. Vocals, bass guitars and kick drums are examples of Mono sounds which are mixed in Mono tracks. Piano, guitar and choirs are usually recorded in stereo to capture the full space and directionality accurately.

  • @Sytrusze Let us know if this helps clear things up.

  • @WinkSound Thnx for your reply, it starts to come but i still find it hard to know which instruments i should choose mono/stereo for. Is there any method to distinguish these 2 or do you really have to study a whole list of instruments which are mono and stereo so that you know which one to choose. IMHO i would choose stereo for everything, because when i think about recording drums, i think about multiple mic's to capture the full space. Could you give me some more distinguishing tips please?

  • @Sytrusze It depends on the sound source as well as your preference. In a drum kit situation you can make use of both mono and stereo recording. The kick drum is usually recorded as a stereo sound source. Low frequencies are uni-directional meaning the wave form travels in only one direction. The overhead microphones will record the kit as a whole and will make use of stereo recording. We would naturally hear left and right elements so it's preferable to preserve that space in the recording.

  • @WinkSound That clears thing up, thanks!

  • Let us know if this helps to make things clearer.

  • I am very new to music production so I am trying to learn and understand mix and mastering as get better and better at this....can you help me understand the benefit of changing from Midi to Audio and how it helps the sound develop?

  • Wait there, I just used the outputs of my instrument tracks for the bus's instead of sends and that worked! Is this another good way to do it??

  • @kingyshell Yes. When bussing you can use sends to blend the original signal with the processed signal being routed to the send. Bussing the output of a track directly is another way to group your tracks within the mix. Either way works, depends on your personal approach to mixing.

  • Urgh this isn't working, It doesn't even record anything I don't know what is wrong, The input on the audio defaults as the SPDIF But I changed it to the unused bus's from the sends of my stereo instrument tracks and it doesn't record!! :( Also I can't use any mono bus's from 1-16 I can only use 17-32 for some reason :/ Please can you help me!!

  • Whenever I do this, the audio that gets recorded is extremely small. If I zoom the audio track vertically across the height of the screen I start to actually see the sound recorded. The sound from the instrument is loud and the bus audio is set to 0.0 as you do in your video. Any ideas why it's so small? Thanks in advance for any ideas you have!

  • Awsome>> I print my midi tracks consistently. it makes it easier to mix them and send them off to the Mastering Engineer.

  • wheni got to the part of assigning the bus, it would say bus1-2 stereo, bus 3-4 stereo and so on. i cant assign bus 1 mono or bus 2 mono. what did i do wrong??

  • @jazzbass321 yes you can use the mono buses but on a mono track. If the track is stereo that is why the stereo buses show up. If you have a stereo track but want to just use a mono bus lets say bus 1. You can pan the stereo track both panners to the left 100% and that would work.

Hope that helps and let me know if you ahve any other questions

  • How do you store RTAS Files from your Hard Drive to your external drive? I wanted to make some room for my Hard Drive in Pro Tools 8. I recently purchase Native Instruments Komplete 7. It has eaten up a lot of space in regards to the Plug-ins. I will be updating my memory soon as well. I get a message that says Add More Power To PC or Move RTAS files to another location to free up space. What the best solution in this matter?

  • @johngreasy My suggestion would be to keep all the pro tools files on your computers hard drive. Since komplete is so huge I would install komplete on an external. The samples esspecially take up alot of space/memory. It is a bit time consuming and tedious to do but would help free up your computer. Or you can get a firewire drive and run your sessions off the firewire drive. Just make sure to check the specs for pro tools and firewire drive before you get on.

  • @WiNKsound You can check out the Native Instruments forums to see what others are doing/trying to get the best results.

    Hope that helps out

  • Awesome & Very Simple I Can Did It Keep These Coming Sir!

  • I've tried doing this but I can't the output source of the audio tracks or the midi tracks to be "analog". It isn't even an option on my list of output sources. Why is this? Is it how I hook up my speaker? I'm using an m audio studiophile av30

  • @stratman3511 What does it say when you try to change your output? Pro Tools migth have just labeled it differently. It happened to me actually when I updated pro tools. Let me know what output options it gives you

  • Thanks! This was helpful but why does the new audio track volume sound a bit louder?

  • I have tried this and the only thing thats was different was that I've already had more than two tracks and the output was not analog. Justin, peps what could i be doing wrong?

  • @jazzyfosho7 The output of which track? The one you are recording to or the track you are sending out to record. What you can do is try what TheBigBf said a few comments down. That is also an option for getting this done.

Let me know how it goes and if you have anymore questions

  • @WiNKsound Thanks Justin. I've tried what BigBf commented and that seemed to work. By the way, I may have told you this already but your vids are most informative to say the least. Thnx a ton n thnx 4 responding. I have one more Q. Im always getting "cpu errors remove rtas increase buffer size" is this an lack of RAM problem? Will a Glyph 1 TB External Hard Drive fix this.

  • @jazzyfosho7 Thanks for the positive feedback and glad I could help you out! Yeah pro tools does say to use an external hard drive to record your audio onto. This will free up your computer a bit. Also having a faster cpu of course but thats a whole huge ordeal. More Ram would help as well. Also "printing" your effects/instruments and getting rid of the plug in will help take some of the work off your computer as well.

Hop that helps Talk to you soon

  • Thanx for breaking it down and keeping it simple.RESPEKT!

  • Justin, using a send seems unnecessary. Why don't you just change the output of the track to the bus instead? Currently, during the bounce, you are monitoring both the instrument track and the new audio track. I would also recommend that the user "hide and make inactive" the old instrument track after the bounce to free up screen real estate and avoid double monitoring.

  • great!

    helped..

  • hey justin the video was very helpful, quick question though, when recording midi to wav, if the midi note ends right at the very end of the bar, the resulting wave extends past the bar so it causes a clicking/popping sound when going into the next wav if i copy and paste, this doesnt happen when the midi is playing back, the sound ends when the note ends, idk if there is a way around this, maybe a setting idk about, any help would be appreciated.

  • wow this is awesome, thanks

  • Again great video, super easy to follow and right to the point. Great! All your video's are super helpful. Thanks
