A word to the wise camera stabilizers are a must for smooth pans. I've been using the Cam Caddie SCorpion with great success and it was less than $40 for it. I highly recommend them.

I did this about 2 years ago and my camera broke, it doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, but try avoid using this method from room to room as the wheels can jam on the little ridge in the door frame and your tripod will come crashing down, and you've lost a load of money down the drain, I'm not saying do this method, but just keep this in mind :)
