  • You're trying to say that was a farrier? Around horses every day as a job? I don't believe a word of it - no farrier would approach a horse like that, poking a hoof-pick at the horses face like it was a knife, like he was about to eat him!!!

  • My horse was like this is really sad to see a horse like this 3 years of having him anyone can do like anything with him :D

I learned not to give up.

  • I don't think I have ever seen such a timid farrier. Confidence is key. That horse definitely read that guy as being a DUMBO!

  • this horse dont like japaneese :D:D

  • I had a horse like this.......she required a cocktail and a brave farrier....not stupid animals, I would be a scared farrier too!

  • expurt village ..hehehehh

  • this handler was great, kudos to you! The guy in the white shirt has no business being around horses... that is obvious! My QH could care less who is around her, My TB is very picky, if you dont know what you are doing, she will school you QUICK. My trainer calls her persnickity.. I call it trust! :)

  • He is awful to watch this man in the white shirt, and the horse looks like it recognice him and now whats next

  • oh my good what had he done with his horse?? it´s so afraid of him....

  • Notice how calm the horse is when the video poster walks up to him? That's because he has a calm, no-nonsense attitude. The second man is obviously afraid of the horse, and is behaving unpredictably. Any horse would be nervous about that!

  • hahaha

  • I am soo confused on why a horse would act like this!!

  • The guy in the white jacket is acting like a predator! I'd be afraid of him too! Obviously he has NO SAVVY OF HORSES!!!

  • The man should try to be around horses before he is trying to work with there hoofs!!

  • Does that farrier even know how to behave around horses. I'd be scared of him too!

  • He was perfectly calm with the first person, what's up with the second??

  • he just needs a chance :)

  • This is odd.I don't get it.

  • The approaches the horse horribly. First off he looks scared and the horse can probably sense that, and he really needs to learn how to be slow...

  • I don't understand what is happening in this video.

  • i love how everyone is saying bad things about your methods when its obviously working. he already trusts you this much in one week. how is he now ?

  • You should never hide anything from them the horse is scared because the owner is scared

  • PS: He's absolutely gorgeous. Let us know how he makes out!

  • He just didn't like being approached that way, with good reason. The 2nd guy is tense, arms stapled at his sides - Reaching for his face...He sure does like the other guy though..Great video.

  • 1. don't put the horse in cross ties.

    2. don't put the horse in a box.

This is horrible horse handling on every level. This is no way to gain trust. I suggest any form of natural horsemanship. This will not get better with the current system you are instituting. UGH

  • the horse is showing you he dosent trust you and hes thinking like well there scared might scare them even more so when you do something like this make sure your confident brave and your the boss.

  • ....... Wow ... Really makes things hit home seeing something lik that ..

  • i think he can feel the brown shirt guy fear

  • Very interesting

  • kudos to you for working with an animal so many would give up on, what a shame he had such a bad life to start, you seem to be a very patient and understanding person when it comes to horses so I reckon things will get better for him from now on. Good luck to you and the horse :D

  • Okay that guy would scare me too. I have no sound so I'm not sure what I'm missing but the guy in the brown looks scared to death

  • omg you can't make a horse likethat a race horse. He's doomed to fail because he is already a basket case

My hoof mentor taught me that NOT tying a horse up, they will be calmer because they will know they can escape danger...I trim my rambunctuous 18 hh tb untied - and I use a sander. He is VERY calm when I do the work in his paddock. I can grab the lead rope if need to...maybe that might workwith this horse farrier needs to make friends let him smell him smell his tools.

  • Nice energetic horse.

The type I keep falling off because I'm not energetic.

  • reading the comments, makes me think no one at all listened to the guy speak in this video x.x

  • I hope this horse worked out well. I think a lot of the other posters are right - just seems like a higher-energy horse, with some inadequate human interaction, and very in tune with body postures. His panics are obviously avoidance.

  • What is the name of this horses color?

  • Dark bay

  • I agree with everyone else. The horse is obviously nervous. I was in exactly the same posistion, the mare disowned my filly when she was a few weeks old, from then on i had to hand rear her, she never trusted anyone but me and was extremely nervous, so i got calm people and made them slowly walk up to the horse and let it smell them. not rush everything and make the horse even worse. Even so you have a gorgeous horse, wouldnt it be better for eventing?

  • the object in his hand is a hoof pick haha lol. and yeah the farrier seems bit stiff around him....I wouldn't want him touching my feet either though lol. But the horse looks really nice & I hope he comes along well.

  • the horse is afraid of the object in the guys hand. obviously

  • Good demo of how a person's body language/demeanor can effect an animal. Heck if that guy came up to me like that I'd slap him, lol!

  • ok its all about the way the 2nd guy approached the horse acting funny of course the horse is going to act like that

  • The 2nd guy walked up very apprehensive and moved oddly. It's easy to see why a horse that needs a little work would be wary of that fella.

  • The owner of the horse needs to learn how to approach the horse. The horse here, is reacting to the owners body language and sensing danger. Horses do not get less frightned by you showing them an object, rather they gain confindence from relaxed body language. The owner is tense, hense the horse is tense. Great video showing this.

  • He "WAS" our farrier..lol

  • what a pretty boy :] he just needs some time and he'd be perfect even if he doesn't race he's still good for something.

  • 8-I

  • he has a sweet demeanor though, look at the way he so curious and happy when not around people

  • haha @ 1:26...^^

  • wow, has he raced yet if not hows he doing

  • he is beatiful! but really do you honestly think he will come right?

  • What are you going to do, make sure he never sees a white jacket? What about when he is hurt or sick and sees something scary about the vet? He needs to be more secure (like Endo is doing) so that these things aren't scary. You can't just eliminate and avoid all the things that upset him for the rest of his life.

  • Why did he react that way on the other person?

  • Body language and trust.

  • I would say that after working with him alone for one week the horse is used to the trainer and feels safe. The other guy is new and scary. That is why he came in to test how the horse will react. That is why they keep switching places, to show the horse that people can come and go and not hurt him.

  • wow hes a youngin cute!

  • Oh, so now it's the jacket, is it? Wait, what jacket? The white shirt the farrier is wearing? Surely we could never expect a horse to react calmly to farriers wearing shirts! From now on, all racehorses will be ridden by topless riders....

  • lol the horse was like oh HEACK no i get the carrot THEN u can come in

but seriously hes scarred GET RID OF THE JACKET

  • the horse is adorable tho.

  • The white jacket had a lot to do with the horses nerves...he may be afriad of strangers but as you see the second time he sees the farrier he is not afraid of him as much as he is of the white jacket. The horse goes to sniff the jacket and the first wrong thing the farrier does is put his hand up in the horses face....do this video again minus the white jacket and with a different farrier...you will be surprised the horse will react to the stranger but will get comfortable momentarily.

  • That man is great :)

  • I think a lot of that had to do with the fact that the other farrier was wearing a white jacket. My wonderful clydesdale will spoke at bright coloured things like jackets and blankets(jumping he knows better than to pull that bs,and he loves jumping so spooking at things isn't as fun).My other horse attacks people because she was starved as a youngster(weanling) buy a cow of a woman who had something like 20 animal cruelty charges laid against her.I'd like to meet her again....

  • my thoroughbred did that with his pervious owners(he did not like them at all!). but when i got him he was all sweet and trusting, but he had a bad reputation in the island so every was scared and amazed when they saw him after when i got him. :for the person:all you got to do is bring him slowly to places were there is peps and other horses..BUT DO IT VERY VERY SLOWLY!!

  • haha blacksmith is an idiot

  • Didn't he have a nursemare? Cripes, I've see so many horses messed up by fools. Seems, too, like nobody cares how messed up a horse is as long as he breaks fast!

  • What happened to this horse afterwards Endo, did he make it?

  • I had the same problem with my horse

He only trusted me, but kicked to everybody else

I learned him how to ride and after a year, somebody else tried to get on his back

    She feld

We tried it over and over again, but he

    didn't accepted it

We tried it 3 monds later

I hold him and told him it was okay,my friend get on his back,he looked me in the eye, and told him again it was really ok yes she can ride him now, but only if I'm watching

When I walk away she lays on the ground

  • Good job.

What a beautyfull stable! And pretty horse.

  • he is such a beautiful horse!!! so pretty!!!!! itz so sad that he is afraid of strangers but yhuu do a great job with him!!!

  • Great work!!! I wish I could job shadow you!

  • Poor thing. He's so afraid of strangers!

His build looking from the front looks beautiful! And I love his neck when he was flexing it to the side. Very muscular! Lol from all the rearing he does with the stranger his hindquarters ought to be powerful! Hope he gets better and does well in his training!

  • poor horse i hope he improves hes really nice from what ive seen

  • poor thing. I work with abused horses. but this is different. I think he sees you as his mother. goodluck with him. I hope he dosnt go to slaughter after the race track :(

  • ahahahha that girl on expert village is a MORON! u learned from her??? oh man...

  • Wow, You Can Tell Thats A Thorpughbred, Look How Long And Beautiful His Legs Are!Your One Lucky Man!

  • That guy is really stupid.

  • lol, some tb's can b highly strung at best! you can tell he trusts u though!

  • beatiful horse what kind of breed??

  • Thoroughbred

  • I think this horse only trust the one who handles it. Anyone else, it is afraid of what they might do to him. I completely understand this horse. My mare didn't like men, and my filly only likes me and her trainer (who is a man). Funny!!

  • Boo .....creepy cross ties!!!

  • that farrier looks terrified and isnt helping the situation, he's just teaching the horse that if he jumps around the scary people back off..

  • i have full admiration for you as my horse hates men, my husband goes near my youngster and he flips his lid but hes a real sweety with me so it just takes time and understanding to work the fear through with kindness and patience. 95% of problems with a horse are man made.

  • Handsome babe he is. What a looker. Such a shame about his background. Very nice babe, I hope you managed to get him trusting, Be a shame to loose soemthing that beautiful because he's insecure I wish you the best of luck with him Endo, hope he came round.

  • WoW that was crazy how the horse reacted to different people! I know some horses can have a really good relation ship sometimes with just one person but i have never seen it like that!!

  • horses can sense fear and anxiety and that guys shirt was white and wavy the trainer matches his clothes with all dark which is smart

  • you are chuffing amazing!! not only do you have a great relationship with all your horses you also use the phrase 'fruit cake' with is brilliant!

  • What happened? Did you get him to come round? I hope so, such a waste otherwise.

  • What exactly were you trying to do?

  • lmao god he dusnt like him aha

  • For this horse's sake, I hope he can run like hell. :( Great job, you inspire me!

  • Your videos always give me a hearty laugh. You're a funny, funny man, and great with your horses. Nice work.

  • haha

  • Hey my horse falls and mishaps video is up to be viewed if your interested. thanks again for the permission to use your clips :)

  • So Sad. What a beautiful horse. You should get a medal for what you do. Love you!

  • Can i please use this clip in my new horse falls and mishaps video? I would put your name in the credits. thanks Belle :) Please reply as soon as possible

  • Yes dear, you may...

  • It took me 6 months to befriend a horse, get him to even let me in his stall. He was rescued from a BLEEP that beat him with logging chains. Very slow easy movements worked, always calm and slow round him but friggin alert in case something spooked him. He would stand there shaking all over, so scared but eventually let me carefully touch him. What I think of his former owner, who I have not met, isn't printable. Great video, my heart goes out to that horse. Hope he mde it.

  • I was lucky with this one because I found a backdoor to hack thru his defences which made the job easy. The normal horse inside gave me a sign that he was reaching out and I snapped it up and followed thru. Some aren't so lucky and live a life of scared hell.

  • my mum said the horse doesnt like the farrier shirt. I know i just looked at my mum like wtf look lol

  • Is that guy really a farrier? I don't want to sound rude but I have never seen farrier acting so insecure around horse. No wonder the horse doesn't want him near.

  • Horses are like dogs, you go to pat one and show the dog your scared, he will probably bite you. Riding is the same, I tell my riders not t let the horse know your scared because he'll pick up on it lose the plot too..

  • That's really interesting--are all horse like that with the Asian man or it it just this one? How weird!!

  • Horses act like this with anyone if they were neglected or abused.

  • That's sad. I truly feel for all horses that aren't treated with the respect they deserve; they are such magnificent animals. In your videos you seem to realize that.

  • These horses are family to me and deserve every view they get here. Half the horses in my early vids are already dead. Putting them here to be remembered is the least I can do.

  • That's nice. I have a soon-to-be 17 horse that I event with and he's great but I know someday that he will pass and I aim to give him the best life that I can while he is with me.

  • Your horses are BEAUTIFUL. I guess the horse just don't like japanese or whatever race he is lol:) (not to be mean)

  • That he is, I haven't seen eyes on a horse like this dude and he's such a blast to work with. I'll post an update soon..

  • I won't even comment o____o

  • As the owner of perviously slaughter bound off th track TB who didn't know basic ground manners like cross tying and picking up her feet I can relate to these situations as I have been through many myself. It took me 6 month of literal blood, sweat and tears to teach her the basics. Just a suggestion maybe the farrier could try giving the horse a carrot. They say the quickest way to a horses heart is through their stomach. My horse included.

PS: She awesome now jumping 4'3 combinations.

  • "Most farriers truly hate horses- even the best ones"

Why would they become farriers then? All the farriers I've ever worked with enjoy horses, and know what they're doing. I'm sure there are a couple of sour farriers out there, because lots of people hate their job no matter what it is. A person who didn't know how to handle horses would not be able to shoe a horse. Sigh, so many ignorant comments.

  • Our farrier loves horses and is one of the best horsemen I personally know. Your right, why become someone who is around horses all the time if you didn't like them.. Like... DUH!!! lol

  • This is awful. This is awful. Are you kidding?

  • No, he really is farrier..

  • If you can cleary see the horse does not like clippers why put them in the position, im not fan, sorry

  • Probably because hoofpicks not clippers are to pick the horse's feet out which gets done several times a day here and the horse has to get use to it. Leaving the horse in the nervous state he's in will only get him slaughtered. I realize your 14 but this is the real world and real decisions are made, crying to mum doesn't work saving these horses.

  • great response.. It's so true... horses that won't allow the simplest of things don't get very far in life unfortunately. Luckily there are few people who can deal with them and help change there lives for the best. I know Shylo is a lucky boy, He went from crazy to letting a green rider take him down trail!

p.s. If I were that horse, I'd let the one guy near me too.. he's yummy.. :)

  • I wish people wouldn't comment ignorantly on videos they don't understand...I respect what you do with problem horses(endospink)and the fact that you simply care.

  • umm not gonna lie maybe if that chinease guy didnt walk up to the horse all tense. the horse could sense that he was scared.

  • Every horse relies on its natural instincts to stay safe. Not just this one, hard life or easy-it's all the same.

  • I think it was the orange walls..

  • It's sad really, isn't it, you'll get his trust up for people who in reality are really not trustworthy. I love your videos, and know your heart for these animals. But always behind the humor and the beauty is the understanding of the reality. Truly such dishonor among a people who have claimed for centuries that honor is everything.

  • the horse new the other guy was scared and that fear fear scared the horse

  • I agree totally. My farrier works by natural horsemanship and did a brilliant job with my 2y/o cob who had never had his feet trimmed before. Patience and understanding go a long way.

  • the horse would not have been so scared if the farrier let the horse have a sniff just like he wanted to. u can see it in the horses face. he wanted to check the guy out first but he didnt let him!

  • If that is is a farrier, I am a monkeys AR*E. The guy has no idea atall. Cross tying will only retrict the horse and make him more fearful, i dont blame him one bit. they need to build confidence before even attemting to touch him let alone shove a hoof pick in his face. they would do well to start from scratch and learn a few lessons from pat parelli!

  • its all about trust they r not forsing then selfs on the horse as you can see the horse has a lot of trust in the man at the start but just like my horse this horse gets affread when left with the new man he must realy trust the man in dark cloths well done i can see he is trusting you a lot sueaxon1 you dont have a clue

  • I agree

  • Do you ever wonder what certian people have done to this horse to make them fear them so bad? My 23 year old TB gelding is this way. His former owners damn near get bitchslapped by him if they come around. Do you ever get back stories to these animals?

  • THAT's the farrier? ok, i know the japanese are kinda small :P maybe we should clone Endo AND my farrier... that would be good for japan :P

  • ps Sarah Stettner showed you good! HAHAHA.... her horses have 4 legs!

  • The poor baby, shame the industry doesn't have more people like you Paul...and these horses wouldn't end up broken fruitcakes... cheers, looks like he's a really sweet boy.

  • Hell, he's just Racially prejudiced. He loves Ozzies hahahah.

    HP

  • Haha, expert village! :P I'm sure!

I must say, as a farrier, I really appreciate someone taking the time to explain this aspect of training. Many people feel that it's the farrier's job to train the horse, which is just dangerous for me! Thanks for taking the time to shed some light on this very important topic, Endo!

  • Endo, his feet look pretty good. Drugs, twitch, or....?

  • That's a mystery to me too because he isn't gonna stand there while u put a twitch on or give him and injection..He tried to kill the vet the other day getting an influenza shot which is just a muscle jab..

  • Blow dart? hehe

  • dont think so MOON81- he just waits for Paul to put the spell on them. But wht did they learn on t begin with? statues?

  • Sweet insecure horse..needs some bonding with a variety of people to get his confidence up. Needs alot of work..but well worth it. E..I think you have another project in hand..but I'm sure you will be successful. Doesnt the farrier work with insecure horses all the time?

  • E, great series. I have one like this. Then he gets in bad accident when delivered to me. His face was ripped apart. I used that time to nurse him back to health and create trust. We're real close but find no one else can really go near him. He's great in the herd but how do you translate this trust so he can bond with other humans? He scares them. In reality, he's a big (Arabian) puppy dog.

  • hehe, you are aswell nice whit out youre goggels.. :D..

  • Certainly can tell the difference when a person approaches a horse with confidence and a response for lack of confidence.

  • Horse even looks like he's trying to give the farrier a chance for a second, but the guys blows it acting all squirrely.

  • farrier trained by the horse. I rear up is the cue for the farrier to walk away. how about teaching the farrier about advance and retreat tactics.........

  • The farrier retreats real well, then asks me to ring the vet. I send back to the frontline and tell him to get in there because I don't think owners should have to pay vet bills for his lack of gonads..

  • lol u look so different without ur goggles. hah wen u hand the hoof pick over u look like ur trying to say heehehe AS IF MATE! poor horse, so is this going to be like another mini series?

  • I am thinking Expert Village is where the farrier graduated from.....yikes

  • Impatiently awaiting next chronicle of the documENDOry!

  • I'm just thinking which way I should do it..I can post bits of progress as I make them or save it for the end and make a "Deception" type of vid showing you progress and the finished result in one go..The only problem with post updates it you will have seen it all before by the time we get to the end..

  • I'd kind of like to see a step by step, cause I think you can get more detailed. I liked "Deception" a lot, but I want to hear how it all happens so I can steal your technique! (Just kidding) But I'd like to draw from your expertise all the same. But you're the production genius - so however you think is best.

  • ok, well sit tight and I'll show you the whole movie first then at the end I'll break it down and go over what I did for those who are interested.

  • Sounds perfect! Is he going to be "Jack" from here on out, or will he get some other name?

  • We can call him jack but he'll get a racing name. No different to the guru's I suppose, they have names but normally get called all sorts of things...lol

  • By the way, I'm drafting my letter to send you for RTTH...also showing your videos to everyone I know, maybe they will write, too. So hope it helps.

  • Thank you, make it for 2009, the RTTH 2008 has already been decided, unless Chris Cox hear me coming and starts a running...lol

  • Hey-Thanks, I needed that! Mine is not nearly so scared as that; at least not always! Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to seeing the next installment.

  • Ok, what I will do is bring you guys along with the progress of "Jumping Jack Flash" here, for inspirational purposes because if you watch this transformation in a week or two, it should give you guys with horses not as bad, a bit of a confidence boost..

  • Yay!

  • so cool we can watch the progress of "Jack", happy you gave him his first name! I'm confident you will work wonders with Jacks confidence.

It's that farrier I'm worried about, its gonna take years to train that guy! :)

  • Hehehe i think most of us can relate to what this horse is doing Lol! It also hapenned to some of mine, if i whashed their hooves they would keep the foot up without me holding it, if anyone else tried to wash their feet they wouldn't stay still and try to hit whoever was too close =))

  • Hell.. if that little dude walked up to me and pointed a hoof pic at me, like he was robbing a liquor store, I think I'd throw a fit to!

  • Hey there.. looks like this one needs tlc.. and handling by different people..so it can learn that it can trust most everyone. I'm sure this horse will come around... you have that magic touch E. Please video more.. thanks..

  • This horse sounds a bit like one I'm lined up to get one ready to go to the track. Mine isn't as untrusting as yours, we thought he might be considering it took the van drivers 1 hour to get him off the trailer, like your colt he isn't very impressed with humans, though he's not half as afraid as yours, we've already started lungeing and putting tack on him. I'll be interested in seeing this one's progress with you, I love your work, look forward to seeing more.

  • My goodness, do you ever sleep!?

  • sometimes

  • Hmm - I guess it's only about noon there, right? I forget, keeping track of too many people in too many time zones..

  • Okay, I understand this is only 3:34 & you can't show everything. My question, the horse looks like he is half-way to trusting you, why didn't you go with the other guy up to the horse and introduce him then move off just a ways. You also said he hasn't been handled much; how much lovin' and attention will he get each day to turn stuff around?

  • Because that would just be a boring movie of 2 guys looking at a horse. The point I was trying to get across was that horses accept people on an individual basis. How many times have u heard my horse hates men? That's a load of Chris Crocker too, horses aren't sexist, they trust on an individual basis. The same goes for riding, just because you don't have problems riding ur horse doesn't mean other people won't have problems with it.

  • This horse will get the same as the other horses here which will be a lot for him because he never got the attention before. Going into his stall every 5 or 10 mins to pat him will drive him nuts and make him worse. TLC in moderation will bring him around.

  • Are we going to get to see his progress on video, too?

  • If you want..I will start this one a little different..
