smokey? on the range? and sugar? they must have skipped the part where she washed the bits of bitter charred skin mixed in.. thats like leaving eggshell in the omelet.. (what am i saying.. bitter? eggplant? but i guess people work with what they can)
this dish is iraqi dish for sure because iraqi people they dont travel so much and this food my mother used to make it she says in fiftes she is turkish but all iraqi in west of iraq cook this food but they use pure oil not olive oil and alot of fresh carlic on the top of the dish and pure oil will be heated till it smokes then they add on the top of the aubergin and they eated with fresh bread
Why does every Greek recipe have to turn into a huge discussion about Turkey and Greece and other Balcan countries. ''This is not Greek it is blah blah blah". Just because other countries have it in different versions? So what? This is soooo stupid. The French Coq au vin exists in many other versions in other countries but no one would ever write a stupid comment like "This is not French it is ....." Leave those Greeks alone. Greek Food rocks!!!
@sixameleon , Hey sixameleon,You are just a looser, what difference does it makes where the Turks come from. The Fact is they kicked you out of there 1000 years ago and STOP complaining and START saving your bankrupt country.
here in romania is a very popular salad, we even froze the cooked eggplant to have it also in the winter time when the fresh eggplant is not available on the market.
so maybe this recipe is originated from romania so stop fighting for nothing u greeks and turks! :-)
But here we mix the eggplant with a fine chopped onion.and try it with some tomato slices.
and those who don't have problems with weight mix it with 2-3 tablespoons of mayanaise.delicious!
we do it also in romania:) only that we chop the eggplant and we mix it with some onions or for those that don't like onions,we mix it with some mayonaisse.

This is actually a Turkish dish, it is a very popular dish in the Western part of Turkey. This may be the reason that Greeks have it as their. But original one is Turkish.
What do you mean ? Well if its from the Eastern part of Turkey the food is more close to Iranian food, and they tend to add milk to most of their food. This is totally a dish fom the Western part of Turkey.
Did you alive for more than about 2450 years to say that the Parthenon is actually a Greek design?Tt well could have been constructed by the people at Bechtel corporation, San Francisco, USA, you dumb Greek goat.
When I say Turkish its Turkish thats the final okay. Though it could have been even Polish, but surely not Greek he he he
stop being offensive and proving your barbarian origin.being manipulated by stupid army men leads you to that thinking.there are scripts proving Parthenon's origin as well as proving your stupid origin
No it has been found by a professor at Harvard that the original design of the Parthenon was done by desingers at Bechtel Corporation no dumb Greek can design such a great structure. Coming back to this dish it is orignially Turkish.
You keep your theory to your dumb brain. Before Turks introduced eating eggplants the Greeks were using eggplants to conceive their women ha ha ha!!!!
@abcdbuterfly@abcdbuterfly huh...I'm not Greek and never heard of this "salad" before, but I was thinking the very same thing: Garlic... it seems such an obvious and natural ingredient to compliment this dish. I'd use roasted garlic for this. May also try this with truffle oil - I predict it'll be a quite a treat.
BTW, traditionally, do you serve it warm, room temp or cool it?
I have a chinese version of this :-)

It could surely be like that too.

Its true!!! Its as much true as ur theory.
go read a book boy
p.s. this recipe isnt neither greek or turkish, its regional found in western greece and anatolia too long before the mongol-seljuks arrive.
