  • the persians wanted to take over Greece, starting from Sparta. so the spartans, led by leonaides (the king) went off to fight. he took only the 300 best and bravest soldiers because there was a festival coming up and war was illegal at the time. so, he took only 300 and said that they were his personal bodyguard, while his wife tried to get the spartans to send their full army. there :P
