  • All my study are from Jeff I have his style and I'm happy with it. I'll keep looking for more of his video.

  • Really! Wow.... Listen to that!! Amazing sounds.

  • 2 legends. WOW!

  • Bill, I've enjoyed everything you have posted. I can't thank you enough for the hours of entertainment. This one may be my favorite. Also thanks to scotty for allowing you to post them

  • I could just lay down and listen to lap steel guitar all day and fall asleep and then keep hearing it in my dreams.

  • Bill - you have single-handedly preserved the greatest steel players of all time with your relentless video and audio work... anyone that has every sat behind of steel owes you a debt of gratitude!!

to see these two pioneers playing the work of another pioneer - well, it just warms the heart and soul... thank you.

may John and Jeff RIP - we miss your work and your friendship!

  • @bossman22408 Thank you for the kind words. I am just grateful that I was able to be a part of the history of this great instrument. More than that, I am the most grateful that I was and am friends with most of the greats. I am truly humbled.

    Bill

  • Wow! This is so good!

Two of my favorite steel-players doing great stuff together.

  • One of the best videos on YouTube!

  • I think Jeff Newman was a great steel guitar man, We remember him in Sweden. Be proud of him

  • Jeff newman is my favorite.

  • Jeff was a very good steelguitarplayer and he learned many others too, through his way . In this video we see that he is a great man to, a nice man

  • Jeff is a man I would liked to have worked with Jerimiah former keyboard player with Billie Jo Spears

  • These two are just fantastic, Which steels are they playing? Anybody got a list of all the great steel players and which equipment they play?

    Jim

  • Steel guitars...the closest anyone will come to hearing tears in the rain

  • @stuffyteddybare My old steely used to say- listen to angels crying when I play! and he was right

  • @stuffyteddybare My old steely used to say- listen to angels crying when I play! and he was right, I also met Jeff when he came over with Bob Ede and Paul Franklin, to Jerry Hogans ,what a fantastic trio of true gents' they were. Truly inspirational and the pinnacle of musicianship . Now the Angels are smiling with Jeff among them.

  • Jeff was my dad, and these videos are some of the best memories playing and having a blast, so I keep looking at them also. Thanks to all that do remember him--it's been hard.

  • I am SO glad that Fran agreed to let me air these video's. I hope to post some more of Jeff soon.

Even though Jeff was not fond of our video taping, I would not take anything for these videos.

Plus Jeff and I were very close friends for many years.

    Bill

  • @Steelpicker Bill, although Jeff may not have been fond of you recording these shows they are going to be THE archive of all the greatest steel players in the world.

In the future when we have all gone, these videos will show who came before, also it is your videos that have let the rest of the world SEE all these players as opposed to just hearing them on audio LPs CDs which is also thanks to Youtube.

Obvious words I know but basically meaning thank you to all who allow these videos.

  • @pedalman It has been my pleasure and honor to post these video's. I have lots more and hope to get cranking again real soon.

    Bill

  • @Steelpicker Why is it that the majority do not want to be on video? I have gone to some of the major shows and see no video camera in sight. How else will the memory of these giants of the PSG be remembered? The newer players like myself long to know about the greats that have paved the way before us.

  • @steelgreenhorn Actually, the majority did want video, but there were a couple of "heavy hitters" that said they would not play if there was a video camera anywhere during the entire show. They carried enough weight to get it stopped.

It is sad. Young pickers need to hear the legends. That is why I do what I do. No other reason.

    Take care,

    Bill

  • I'll echo someone's comment.......I'll keep re-visiting this video as long as God allows my ears to hear it. R.I.P. Jeff, your teaching is heard thru so many younger players. We miss you.

  • Two great steel players together, met Jeff at the Newbury Steel Guitar festival in England a few years ago now, a real nice bloke and sadly missed.

  • Comment removed

  • WOW!! That's all I can say..just WOW!

  • sure wish i could play a steel like that.

these guys are as good as any one i have ever heard.

  • Absolutely AWESOME performance!!!

  • got any with jimmie crawford??

  • TWO OF THE BEST EVER ////////////////

  • wonderfull.

For sure one of the most important moments in the History of United States of America.

( Is there more Newman performaces available ? )

  • I do have some more and will be posting ocassionally,

    Bill

  • Thanks!

Now, ....for some very strange reason, YT does not allow me, to feature the Newman Tunes on my Channel Page, except this one.

I wish this could be otherwise.

( Anyway, you just can't get everything you wish in life )

    Btw.: This Channel is awesome.

( Couldn't get enough of all the interesting Videos )

  • Is there ANY WAY you could post more Gene O'neal? Please. I"ll beg if you want!!!

  • Bill, thank you for posting this so much John, Jeff and Lloyd are all heros. I love the slants and passion Jeff and Lloyd play with. I needed some enjoyment today. God bless you

    Jerry Fleming

  • Besides being known for teaching steel guitar, did Jeff Newman have a career as a studio musician or play with other country music artists?

  • my favorite part is jeff newmans lead at 2:10

  • legends

  • Just found this...what a treat. Pedal players seen to be disappearing. Makes me want to drag out my old MSA double 10, 8 pedals & 5 KL.....

  • I absolutely love this . This is true country music unlike some of the stuff they call country today . I just purchased a older msa got a good buy on it . I plan on trying to learn to play what is the best way to get started . I can't find any teachers around my area although Gaylon Matthews steel player for Gretchen Wilson lives about 30 minutes from me .

  • Hey Maynard, I played an MSA D10 for 11 years. Sold it during a messy divorce. BIG mistake. I'd like to have that one back. Good luck. you'll love it.

  • Wonderful! As Austin says, the rapport is just great, super LG licks and Jeffs so relaxed style blows me away, love that little repeat at 3.34min.. What a tribute to JH. Such a loss to the PSG community.

  • wonderful! but how much is a guitar like that?

  • I love how they laugh at each other

  • I keep revisiting this clip, and will continue to do so as long as I have my hearing.

  • Lovelt music, thanks jeantheodore for sending

    God Bless

    David

  • I'm not sure if my comment on this "special video" got posted or not, but to me these two guys are part of the "almost unsung" great player list of pedal steel. Just because Jeff was "tauted" as an instructor, don't even think he can't play, and Loyyd Gree!!!!!!!. Just look at his track record as a major studio player during the glory days of country music recording. Marc Trainor.

  • It is wonderful, that Furgoson, or whoever shot this footage took the time to do it for all these pedal steel shows. I only wish I'd had enough sense to do the same, but, hey, Ray got it covered!!! These two guys are so underestimated in the world of pedal steel, of which I am a steel player myself. Don't ever think that either of these guys aren't wonderful players on the pedal steel, because they are. Marc Trainor.

  • Wonderful, wonderful, just fantastic. I've met both of these wonderful musicians at P.S.G.A. shows, and we had the pleasure of having both Scotty and Lloyd for sandwiches and beer one night after a P.S.G.A. show in Armonk, N.Y. and they autographed the wall of our old camper. Camper is still running (38 yrs old,) and the autographs are still there! What music these talented people make. Also, R.I.P. Jeff, we all miss you.

  • Bill : Thanks a million for posting this one by Jeff and Lloyd; what a pair of jewels; two giants, complimenting each other. I love the look on Jeff's face when admiring Lloyd's playing, and riffs, as only he can do.. Yes, may our friend, Jeff , rest in peace..Bernie

  • Amen to that!!!! Jeff looks like he's in hog heaven while Lloyd is playing. To me that's a lot of respect, from another great steel player (himself). Marc Trainor.

  • Bill Thank You so much for this I needed a Kleenex at the end, Jeff was such a great person and player!, never met LLoyd but He is also great and given us so much with the Tammy Wynette playing and Charlie Pride to mention only a small amounty of his credits. Jeff will be missed by many a Long Long time. He was truly a Steel players friend,And no one could get more from an E9th than Him!or make a Steel sound any better, Your Friend Bill Howard

  • Thanks SP. Vance is my all-time favorite. He told me that Jimmie Rivers asked him to play like a Jazz pianist and that's what produced his unique style. I also just discovered Joel Patterson-"Nuages" on you tube and enjoy his style. Thanks for your posts.

  • Now that's playing with FEEL! DO you have video of the late, great Vance Terry? Thanks.

  • Sorry I do not have any Vance Terry video but stay tuned for more great picking.

    Bill

  • Is it me - or is someone a bit 'flat' at around 4.00?

  • It's you. Any time you take 2 steel guitars and play unison, you will hear that. It's because of each person's approach.

    Bill

  • Fair enough. :-)

  • Yeah, they're flat. Plain and simple. don't try to candy coat it, steelpicker. If they're in tune and play on pitch you won't hear that kind of stufff.

  • Go ahead and beg. I'll try to get some up soon.

    Bill

  • really great!!!

  • Bill, thank you so much for sharing these great videos.

  • Thank you for posting this treasure.

  • one of the best I ever heard!

  • wow! Thanks for sharing this. I was blessed to stay a week with Jeff and Fran while my husband attended the Top Gun class. We still miss Jeff. He passed away just 1 months before we were supposed to get back there again. Jeff was not only a great player but a great person and friend. God bless his soul.

  • The best!-Shalom !!!!

  • The best!

  • This tears my heart out. Check out the extatic grin on the face of the gentleman on the left when Mr. Green is playing. The pure joy of making music: hard for non musicians to understand this.

  • Not only do I miss Jeff's fine playing but his confidence that came about by influencing so many aspiring players. Seeing his smile really saddens me.

  • I reckon you call that mutual respect..........

  • Thank You Bill !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW!!!!

  • Historic indeed. I learned this song not too long ago, and now I know how far there is to go. If there were only one video of E9 playing to save, this would be it. The music and player chemistry here is in a class by itself, and what better song for the text of it!

I'm proud to have shaken one of these hands (and won't forget it), and really ought to find a way to shake the other while there's still time.

  • Bill and Fran: Thanks a million for letting us share this piece of rememberance of our beloved Jeff and his friend, Lloyd performing as only two of the best can do; and doing one of the greatest songs ever written . Our beloved Poppa John would have certainly given a thumbs up on this one.. Right..Bernie

  • It'll take some doin' to top this! Thanks a

heap, Bill....and for ALL your postings!

  • This is an historical moment! I can see Johns smile now

  • Well .. thank you for sharing this moments with us .. Is it possible to record all theese wonderful moments to a DVD ..

    Please let us know ..

  • Thank you for the comments. It has been discussed many time about making DVD's. However there are many things that prevent us from this such as copyrights, royalties and such. For now, we will just use YouTube to showcase the players that agree.

    Bill

  • WOW!!! It don't get no better than that.

  • Bill this just tops everything you have ever put on youtube. The worlds foremost teacher, teamed up with none other than Maestro Green. This brought tears to my eyes. Two of my 3 favorites through the ages! Thanks Bill, for finding this one for us!

    Bent

  • Yes, it was AWESOME!!!

  • Oh my goodness, was that not just beautiful, beautiful beautiful.
