anyone caught calling in a false alarm should be given a lengthy jail sentence.These stupid people jeopardize the firefighters lives but what if there is a fire and all the trucks are out on a false alarm.Someone could die.

Why siren when no traffic?

Many LED bus signs rapidly flash.

Camera scan frequency difference causes the blinking appearance.

The siren was due to the fact the appliance was moving along a road in daytime, with a bus at the side of the road and approaching a junction. The bus driver may pull out, passengers may disembark the bus and attempt to cross the road, not to mention junction traffic.

Before pulling out, bus driver would check mirrors and signal. He would see bicyclists, motorcycles and vehicles to which he must yield, just as he would a big fire truck with flashing lights.

Likewise, any deboarding passengers would look before crossing the street.

Vehicles at the intersection are stopped for their red signal.

Why sound the siren when you have a green signal?

Oh what a wonderful world that would be! This is Glasgow mate, drivers cut you up, children run across the road without looking etc. And you should always activate your audible warning device when approaching a junction, even at green, as the lights may change to red as you get nearer. Its part of the EFAD driver training.

I have seen a person get run over by the same bus they just got off they ran in front of it and the bus driver didn't see them. Some people are stupid when crossing a road and some bus drivers for that matter i think the fireman driving did the right thing least if anything happened he could say well i was using my lights and siren. (waits for the thumbs down off ppl)

You are correct.

I would have passed in the opposing lane (it was vacant) just in case some moron crosses without looking.

Then there is a buffer space in which they would be seen as they began to cross.

Then, I'd use the horn.

With iPods, I never count on the siren being heard.

Some dumb kid was killed walking on a railroad track listening to his iPod.

Better safe than sorry, I almost got ran over by a fire engine because it didn't have its siren on I couldn't see it coming because of a hill. I wouldn't have crossed if i'd heard a siren.
