  • I wonder how much of this is true - where he got the info, etc...

  • fuk Easter Island

  • @JohnRater You're an idiot

  • 12 people are couch potatoes that do not like nature, neither walking on a trail

  • amazing how he can tell all of that in 7 minutes, love Attenborough!

and I am 15 years old and I am intrigued by this information!

  • Oh hey, you guys found mah island. I was wondering where I left it.

  • i thought giants build them

  • Oh you see we know all about these people from what they etched into these GIANT STONE STATUES that they made strictly for the lulz. Is archeology the art of regurgitating overly simplistic delivery of accepted theory? Nonsense. Any time a scientist says that the time for debate is over, you slap that scientist. Do it.

  • I only came here to hear his voice.. sorry?

  • The story telling skill of Attenborough have stood up to time, at least so far. And it earned him a knighthood.

Much of the history of ancient polynesia -- what was deemed important -- was recorded in chants, in a similar fashion to the vedic literatures. However many holders of such records are gone. All we have now is Attenborrough to entertain.

  • @916Radman Speculations???Are you kidding me???Tell them to get a knighthood on their speculations

  • @916Radman I completely agree. Even with the technology today humans could not rebuild the pyramids. And I also agree that this video is not fact based. Where the fuck did science pull this shit out of..

  • the Youtts your honor.

  • @916Radman thats a new one.

  • I read an article that the Mori ori, the original inhabitants of New Zealand descended from Easter Island. They were almost wiped out completely when the Maori arrived. The remaining ones either moved to the Chatham Islands or converted to Maori.

  • To say that a bunch of villagers went insane and made all of these statues, some up to 270 tons, no, it makes zero sense. Then they erected hats as heavy as several cars made entirely of volcanic rock and put on the heads of the ones near water. "The barren land nearby explains why", How definitively? The island could have met several fates with the long stretch of time. We can't keep saying humans made all of these unbelievably insanely accurate structures thousands of years ago.

  • This theory is a load of crap and I can't believe it's what is taught. There are 887 Maoi Statues. Recent excavation of a head at ground level in the grass was excavated and found to be between 40-50 feet tall! It's like a building! They've started excavating the ones around this area to find the same thing. Several have very similar to egyptian hieroglyphics on their backs. And are a rich limestone colour, the age is no highly disputable.

  • is that squidward @ 2:55...

  • How does he know all those details? He just talks but no clues about what is his knowledge based on.

  • @danielfb hahahahahah

  • Forgot to mention the fact that the majority of the remaining population were then enslaved by Peruvian travellers, who shipped them back to peru only to find the Peruvian government appaled. They ordered the slave drivers to take the Easter Islanders home, however, the majority died from disease on the trip to peru or back home

  • There were a few survivors most were Republican settling in what is now the United States.

  • 1:19 he's scared out of his mind and just wants to get down!

  • @sirmoog Are you referring to the ludicrous comments that have been made on this video, or are you referring to the native people of Easter Island?

  • @evildave9000 Talking about the ludicrous comments

  • I know how they got their....people put them there. Where there's a will there's a way. Not aliens, not magic, non of that crap. Just plain hard work.

  • @bigianm3 How about you listen to the man's words instead of scrutinizing his hair? You might learn somethin...

  • @TANQ31

you're assuming he wasn't listening and only noticed the hair. perhaps he was just making a joke?

  • @TANQ31 Good job he focuses on voice overs :P

  • @TANQ31 but his hair is alot funnier than his boring info

  • @TheTHCbaby You actually came here to laugh at his hair...?

  • @ChickenWings103 i came here because i smoked to much weed, then i noticed his hair

  • someone get this guy some hair gel

  • @bigianm3 This is a documentary not a commercial

  • They all died on Easter Island because they could'nt get the wrapping off

  • this guy is crazy

  • Dum Dum has some gum gum? :D

  • LOL! his hair..... RAPA NUI!

  • How the hell do you Dislike these videos... The stupidity of people is way beyond me.

  • @sirmoog Agreed, if you don't like it, don't search for it! This is great.

  • @SurfieInACT I was talking about people who pressed the "dislike" button.

  • now try to carve those statue today using stones.

  • dont worry ive stopped my research i know enough and now im just waiting. something is coming and i can feel it. good luck all

  • Where are the palm trees now? Please! More speculation. The statues are not man made, there had to be assistance from an extra-terrestrial being. Did all the palm tree seeds disappear? The crater is where the space ship landed and lifted off.

  • Where are the palm trees now? Please! More speculation. The statues are not man made, there had to be assistance from an extra-terrestrial being. Did all the palm tree seeds disappear?

  • WHERE ARE THE EASTER BUNNIES??? FAKE.

  • Who currently owns Easter Island?

  • @MathewsWire austria

  • @myGodsAreAliens people did it

  • @myGodsAreAliens no you need to research a little deeper...there is very good documentation from the accounts of those who are still there to explain the story of EI. Regardless of what your little mind can accept the human race is capabilities of many things especially when religion and domination is involved...we traveled to the moon why couldn't some people have carved some heads from soft stone? Oh wait you prob don't believe we went to the moon...

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    EVIL ROCK PEOPLE!!!!

  • gummy bears will attack at dawn if their herd is big enough....they will eat u!

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzxupppppppppppppppppppppppppppp!

  • wasnt made by man

  • this white devil makes me sick. the truth is that white people brought small pox to easter island and wiped out all the indigenous people there and in the canary Islands, australia, new zealand, hawaii, caribbean Islands and many other places.

  • it's like Mirage Island in Pokemon : D

  • attenborough make learning much more interesting

  • This is not a 'demo' of the human race. This irrational race used its finite resources on 'consumable' goods and didn't have any innovation to improve the skills needed such as agriculture.

Fortunately in our society such irrationality is not allowed on such a scale (as long as the people remain free) and innovators are rewarded for warding off the Malthusian catastrophe .

  • I was waken up at 1 a.m. to catch this on TV... I`ll never forget it...

  • @boppy1998 We did the exact same thing!

  • wow, this island is located in the middle of nowhere?? how do people live????

  • Holy shit the water of easter island is cooooool and got a coool color xD!!!

  • To make my point easy to understand, some of these people think theyre educated enough to know our history. The bottom line is, which is the truth and the truth only is, (The Native Americans) which are our ancesters settled the Islands before the Europeans and the Africans got there. And now, the Europeans&Africans culture, tradition&language, blending in to our culture, tradition&language as well as interacial marriage to our people, same as America, now colonized by Europe&Slaves.

  • @CWMaua12 Thor Heyerdahl's hypothesis that the pacific islands were settled from the New World is no longer considered valid by any historian, linguist or anthropologist, not to mention Pacific Islanders themselves!

  • ha watched this in social studies class today, the whole class was laughing at the guy talking! it was so fun!!

  • @boppy1998 You were laughing at D. Attenborough?. Why?

  • @Aramis7 at like 1:15 to 1:32 because of the way he was moving and talking, my class is only like 11, 12 and 13 year olds.

  • This is an example of human depletion of recourses on earth. The same will happen to civilization in the future. But hopefully the human race will be advanced enough to travel to other solar systems by then.

  • great video explaining Easter Island...analagous with the Earth today and where civilization is heading...where will we go if unregulated population continues to grow and exceeds our available resources?

  • thats kinda sad story.

  • 9 people are retards!

  • this is whats going to happen to the earths population in the future

  • I hope the old DUMDUM had plenty of GUMGUM when he made this program.

  • @Heartborne7thSeeker

As you like LOTR so much how about this?

You speak evil of that which is beyond your comprehension and only little wit can excuse you.

Before you call Sir David Attenborough OM, CH, CVO, CBE, FRS, FZS, FSA an old dum dum, why don't you look him up and see what he has accomplished in his life?

  • @briefboyz I don't think you understand my comment,Have you not seen Night at the museum?

I know very well who Attenborough is,he was a very important part of my childhood and allways gave a living

picture of strange and forgotten places.

  • @Heartborne7thSeeker

I know the film; you need to lean the difference between humour and insult.

  • @briefboyz Well so do you! and that is the last thing I have to say about that.

  • @Heartborne7thSeeker

Good, conversing with you was becoming tedious.

  • @briefboyz You are simply insane and must have massive personal problems.

so fuck you and your channel have now been blocked.

  • He left this out::

In December 1862, Peruvian slave raiders struck. Violent abductions continued for several months, eventually capturing around 1,500 men and women, half of the island's population. They created devastating epidemics from Easter Island to the Marquesas islands. Easter Island's population was reduced to the point where some of the dead were not even buried.

  • Our Polynesian cultures, traditions&languages r of israel, arab, india, & native american brings so much similarities. but, these kinds of people have no knowledge of these things bcause they r not from da islands, i was born nd raised in da islands almost all my life, but now, some of our people r mixed with africans&europeans.

  • Or huge space ships used advanced technology to lower the 100 ton stones into place. Honestly, i could have a 100 lumber jack men with me and we still wouldn't be able to move these things. Even the pyramids would take 600 years to build stone by stone. Why waste 6 centuries building a place just to bury your leader. Bare in mind these people believed that a god moved the sun across and sky as well as the moon. I'm not believing in this , i want the truth.

  • @ArinOngunTV what do you mean?

  • @zachplaysfallout3 I'm saying, why are all these TV programmes playing some dumb when it comes to finding out the truth. Maybe the government knew that there was a civilisation which they discovered by certain evidence which is hidden away. If people knew about a civilisation like ours with planes, cars then religion would be straight out the window. All the government cares about his keeping people happy, they do this by lying and manipulating masses of people through media.

  • @ArinOngunTV You are simply deluded: there is nothing more to explain when it comes to these statues. They are typically Austronesian in form, and were certainly created by the Easter Islanders. If you think there is anything to dispute, then I'd suggest studying anthropology and reading the many, many books and articles about the moai written by professionals like Patrick Kirch and Marshall Sahlins. Kirch's "Evolution of the Polynesian Chiefdoms" has an excellent section about Rapa Nui.

  • I want David Atttenborough to narrate my life.

  • Our people, polynesians r not blacks or europeans, we r true desendants of the native american people. not only that middle eastern, far easterns cultures, traditions,&languages r very similar to ours, polynesians. mexicans & all latinos r related to us, all america, but we r also now mixed with africans & europeans bloods. &the native american tribes that settled in the islands (polynesians) r still speaking da native tongue of native americans, now our forefathers speaks spanish, portugese etc.

  • @CWMaua12 I'm afraid you're incorrect. Of course, all people are related, but Polynesians are no more closely related to native Americans than the Chinese or Koreans. Polynesians are Austronesian people whose origins are in SE Asia, specifically in Taiwan. There is a huge amount of genetic, linguistic, and archaeological evidence for this. It is possible that Polynesian people reached mainland South America, but it was long, long after the colonisation by the first Americans.

  • @CWMaua12 You cannot make a valid point while using "r" instead of "are" and "da" instead of "the". You lose all credibility.

  • @omfgstupid I dont know why u worry about the way i communicate to u, so, u telling me that sign language have no credit? well, talk to your parents about that. u r very naive, ok, back to the subject, rapa nui islands, how the name was change to easter islands, is because, a european ship with slaves, during slave trade, discovered rapa nui islands on easter sunday, is dat answer your qs? well, i hope so.

  • Why is it called Easter Island

  • @PandaaDesignz I think it's called that because he found it on easter sunday.

  • our world so incredible? hahh what a joke

people are soo closed minded. Our world is wayyyy shittier than other worlds across the universe.

  • @kebbun1 you must be a very open minded person, waking up 8 AM going work going home taking shit Voula retire and die and that was your life. How pathetic. You're life must be pointless to see a video so beautiful and interesting like this and diss it because your life is miserable. I fell sorry for you. Hope you don't die alone.

  • @sorsorsor11

ur the one who is miserable cause ur replyin to my comment lol you closed minded fuk.

    Ignorance is bliss..

  • I agree Tait011.. this is pretty much a preview of what's to come for the whole world..

  • Holy shit.... EASTER ISLAND if a demo version of the fate of the human race... think about it.

  • @Tait011 you are dumb ass hell

  • @1994shakim

You stupid cunt, if you're going to insult... at least attempt to spell properly.

  • @Tait011 go fuck your mother dip shit.

  • @1994shakim

That was a fantastic and beautiful response.

  • @1994shakim you are dumb AS hell

  • @1994shakim

Haha, fucked up your own insult.

  • @Tait011 interesting thought..

  • @Tait011 Well. Now we build boats from steal.

  • @Tait011 It's possible. I'd think we'd figure it out bit by bit...

  • @Tait011 GET OUT OF MY MIND

  • @Tait011 Yeah... its the demo version for the sure!! Full version would be the first and the last version there will ever be, if people don't grow up

  • @Tait011 Yes but who cares... we will be long dead.

  • @Tait011 what do you mean?

  • @amaimonoDa

Using up all our lands resources before killing ourselves due to starvation of usable resources.

Just like the people of easter island did, you see?

  • @Tait011 okay....now I understand.

  • Richard Attenborough? He was so cool in The Great Escape, and where would we be without Ghandi, excellent movie.

  • truly fascinating!

  • very interesting

  • Interesting is'nt it? A race of people, which would be considered by many industrial peoples todays as "primitive", the kind Hollywood would stereotypically portray as "in tune with nature" and that sort of thin for pro-environmental moviesg. And yet they used up their environment and its resources just as damningly as the rest of us.

Mybe it's just an inherent part of human nature, to use up whatever and wherever we come across

  • fuck me, attenborough is the voice of earth

  • @concain no,,i have no desire to fuk you

  • @deeryker ahahahaaha....

  • The most beautiful place and people in the world. Me encanta Rapa Nui ahora y para siempre.

  • @TheSecretservis it's not it's a volcano

  • @aleciaki Reminds me of Santorini which is also a volcano.

  • CANNIBALLLLLS

  • You're a meteor hole.

  • Very good narration. I've also come to realize that such accounts dating even a few hundred years can be independently covered by 10 different teams of archeologist and yet have very different, even conflicting conclusions.

  • It is different in America when the last tree is cut Jesus comes to save us . This was communicated by that great department of the interior chairmen James Watts. Reagan could pick well, environmentalist should be handled with the cartridge box if they win at the ballot box another of his favorite sayings. It has not changed at all as the steady degradation and destruction of earths Eco systems continue . The earth is a resource to be exploited for short term profit Easter Island is our mentor.

  • And where did we get this information? If they all died then who told their story? It would be interesting to know how they came up with this.

  • @DirectorMeadows there were a few survivors. By the end, some had resorted to cannibalism. There were only a fraction of their original population but some did make it when Cooke arrived.

  • i love science and nature so i like to think i understand a little about them but what i dont understand is why people would go looking for a piece that has the narration of attenborough then rate that they disliked the video??? its beyond me

  • WHERS THE EASTER EGGS

  • @hemlei its called Easter island because it was discovered during the day of Easter

  • I love David Attenborough. He has such a fantastic way of explaining things and shows us how wonderfull our planet really is

  • That is a silly story. That's not how it happened. Fiction!

  • i dont believe alot of what this british dude says

  • @mut1n0us they you are a fool

  • @mut1n0us Based on?

  • @mut1n0us then why do you keep watching this stuff? u fucking gormless barley chewing cowboy! typical yanks will only believe what comes out of their own self glorified asses lol

  • 4:50

"so he continued to gaze over the land that was once his, and protect it with his MANA!"

  • Hold it hold it hold it. The Birdman races came _after_ the age of moai building, I thought.

  • chuck norris

  • the easter island is from chile........

  • at 3:01 it looks like a face in towards the bottom of the rock

  • very impressive beauty

  • Attenborough is The Daddy

  • I wonder if this could happen to the planet as a whole.

  • @Draknid

why not? But we're not quite near the population required yet, if the world was as densely populated as western europe, then number of humans would be about 35 billion. It might happen, but probably not anytime soon

  • @shamalyguy

We would probably run out of food and supplies and then humans will die in drastic numbers until it all evens out again and starts anew

  • Great footage. I was there this winter and it was the best trip I've ever done!

  • i blame the aliens LOL

  • I still think the theory in the 1972 documentary "Chariots of the Gods" explains this more precise.

  • not enough land the feed the mouths but they still fuked like rabbits

  • i think the people that lived there were thinking wah to do im so bord them one guy says lets make faces then i think they made a bet that who can make the most wins. lol im only 13

  • and yet it has all gone.

  • His head moves A LOT! Love Attenborough :)

  • attenborough is god

  • David Attenborough is incredible

  • keeblin... Diamond has been heavily critized by all the scientists doing research on the island's history. He draws the conclusions that suits the subject of his book - ignoring evidence that points in other directions.

  • I hear alot of different stories of this island. But I have yet to see a documentary going over the 2 large craters.

  • This is the future of the whole world

  • yup you got that right. We will fight over oil, stop working together, and eventually all die. It's already happening.

  • Wow very interesting, not too unlike Jared Diamond's account in Collapse.

  • I love attenborough, but he's got a serious hair problem that needs fixing...

  • Are there easter eggs there? I don't get it.

  • Nossa...será que alguém acredita em tanta sandice??? OMG!

  • SOUTH AMERICAN ORIGINS:

    1) The faces on the "statues" look just like the art style of neighboring South American civilizations.

    2) Similar art sculptures are in Western Mexico where we know there was contact with Ecuador & Peru. The Purepecha are very different from the other Mesoamerican civilizations and languages.

    3) The pre-Inca civilizations of Peru had the knowledge of how to move massive stones (e.g. their pyramids).

    4) The sweet potato (kumara) of polynesia comes from South America.
