I think this aria works very well in this setting too plus the pianist is incredible. The text is very intimate so it works just as well here as it does in the opera house. He sounds great!! =D
Bjoerling had more Slavic steel in his voice, however Bezcala indeed could be the legitimate successor to Wunderlich who tragically left us too soon. I hear a lot of Fritz in this tenor's voice.
Here is the voice for which we have all been waiting. Fine musicianship, solid technique, fresh , clean sound with excellent diction.
Above all else, Mr Beczala applies intellect, he sings within his personal limits, which he has taken the trouble to explore and identify. I also can hear Jussi in his voice, but he is not attempting to copy in any way, it is just a similarity in tone and quality, after all, Bjoerling was a lyric tenor of non Italian origin, just as Mr Beczala is.
Bravoooo.
I like his singing in this Che Gelida Manina aria so much!!!! I listen to it over and over again. I like piano version of this aria better...it is more intimate..more romantic.. yes, he has this sheer of a bit Bjorling voice. BRAVO BECZALA!
I agree about Domingo. I always feel he´s pushing too much air trying to force his voice to function. Instead of taking the effort to master an effortless technique.
Beczala´s technique however is perfect. His frasing elegant and his interpretation charming.
He is NOT better than Domingo, Domingo has a better stamina overall in his career when it comes to interpretation. Beczala in this rendition started off well, but soon led into a routine version of this aria. The accompanist played with feeling, and it's he taht makes this clpi somewhat standable. He should actually listen to his accompanist playing rather than to himself singing. It's not all about the high C, you know?
I have one message for you CantStandYaCostanza you don't know 1% of opera it's to soft there is futer in this one but he is not better then a domingo or pavarotti carreras or alagna
what? this deserved a "Bravo!" and a standing-o from the audience. Anyway, great interpretation, beautiful tone. His tongue is placed kinda weird, but doesnt seem to have an effect on his voice.
Anch'io adoro questa canzone, ma questa interpretazione ha stato bravissima!
ummm tenors are supposed to cover....otherwise they'll eventually lose their voice...like di stefano...also who cares about the tongue...listen to him...it sounds great! ....i hope you're not a voice teacher :(
Di Stefano did have vocal problems but didn't lose his voice, and contrary to folklore he did cover, he just remained open up to G or A flat (like Rockwell Blake). Covering is only used for tone quality, it is no more healthy than singing open.
From what I've heard, Gigli is the tenor who can sing often without covering his voice, producing beautiful sound with no covering. It is dangerous, and he said that if he wants his disciples to follow him, they'll break their voices, because Gigli has the perfect breath control.
His diction is fine. He, just as most tenors, covers. Although his toungue placement looks a bit odd, since the toungue when placing nutral vowels is in a lowered, more flat position like "o" or "a". Other wise, it sounds good. How Old is this guy though? He looks like he's in his late 20's?
Fantastic, Pawelp... I adore Beczala! Do you have him singing "Kuda, kuda vy udalilis" by any chance? It would be great to see that aria here in Youtube... Kisses from São Paulo-Brazil.

*sighs dreamily* I recently went to the opera for the first time, and he was Rodolfo in San Diego. : )
I prefer an orchestra to the piano, but this is still lovely. Hearing this brings me back to that amazing night. Hee hee!

It seems, this man could be a real successor of Fritz Wunderlich - the first after 50 years! Mr. Beczala is a fantastic tenor!

Amazing! The only thing I hate about this video is the weak applause at the end. That high C was incredible!! His legato is great too!

I agree; i never even heard of this guy until i heard him filling in for Villazon last saturday at the Met.
and i think he is better than Jussi.
He has a powerful voice like corelli.

Gran tenor. Un poco frío pero con un timbre precioso que me recuerda un poco a Björling.

Wow it's like a combo of Björling and Gedda, I think. Björling in the bottom and middle and Gedda up top.

No dynamics. Great voice and beautifull sound. He sang the aria the whole time forte.

it's like he's singing with a patato in his mouth but there is future with tis one. he should work on his articulation.
