Do you English not understand that God Save the Queen is not a 'national anthem'. A true national anthem is when one refers to his or her nation or the liberty of its people. God Save the Queen, on the other hand, refers to one human being and making that human being into the nation or a godly figure. Despicable in this modern age of democracy!!!
Yes now go compare with the braindead footballers who "dont know the lyrics" as Ashley Cole said in an interview...............God help us............
SPRINGBOK UNITY, TEAM SPIRIT, ORGANIC SKILL AND POWER, SPRINGBOK SPORTSMANSHIP WILL IS THE GREATEST! THE BEST RUGBY TEAM AND NATION IN WORLD RUGBY WILL WIN RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011. THE SPRINGBOKS!!!
SA's anthem is nice but for loudness and passion you cannot beat the English national anthem EVER in ANY sport.... England fans are the best in the world. No matter where in the world our teams are playing you will always here "Ingerlunders" singing our anthem loud and proud.
The England anthem shows inferiority of the masses. "God save the Queen" shows that she is the most superior being, how on earth can one link this vile term with the beutfiul nation of England. Its a disgusting song that needs to be got rid of cause we are living at times of democracy and liberty.
@grandmastercaca In fairness it's the British national anthem; so whilst the Scots and Welsh can sing more relivent and rousing songs the English have been left with that for some reason....
Suppose if the nglish didn't have to sing it no one would.
One of the reasons that rugby is better than football is that EVERYONE knows and sings along to their national anthem instead of just standing there like a lemon. They may not sing it in key but the just shout it at the top of their voices and fill the stadium with an amazing atmosphere
@MMusashi7: I don't know what he was doing there, he's a Scot. They should have sent Prince Harry to represent the RFU's patron. Which would be more prestigious than the now ex-PM
SA has a better anthem. I dont know who in this world apart from the English would want to sing a short anthem that talks about saving the queen. Bitch needs to save herself because its 2010, not the 1800s.
For me, it's the passion and pride the SA players always show when siging their anthem which counts, hands on heart, tears in eyes - it shows how much the words mean to them and how far the country has come - it is AMAZING!
wales has the most beautiful anthem of all... not triumphant as most of the others... really beautiful piece of music - also the argentina anthem is brilliant and the players and fans are so passionate when singing the anthems! i'm english - i like that our anthem is crap - not using music for gain haha-the idea of serving also-and all those men singing about a little old lady makes it all the more powerful... like Elizabeth during spanish armarda etc-so even though its crap i wouldn't change it
LoL, you're funny. The South-African anthem beats yours with a mile.
The fact it is sung in 4 different languages (Zulu, Sotho, Afrikaans English) and still fits in a harmonious melody, that ends with the text: "Let us live and strive for freedom, in South Africa, our land", gives much more than your anthem. You surely must acknowledge this. If you're Welsh/British, ofcourse, your own anthem is the best, but I, as a foreigner in this, let me get this straight. SA has more beautifull anthem!
@oranjuh yes i'd agree it is a much nicer piece of music than the english anthem!the traditional african verses are really lovely but for me the anthem is completely ruined when the dutch afrikaans verse begins-the music at this point is full of that european triumphalism and is awful-it is like the white supremacists cannot let go without their final say-for me the style of the music at that point evokes colonialism and that particular brand of south african white supremacy which is so awful!
The SA anthem is a combination of 2 songs. The old "original" anthem and the song the black people used to sing during the apartheidregime. As being Dutch myself, I actually like the Afrikaans part the most. The text is in no way linked with colonial times, the melody might be a bit like that, but not as disturbing the French sing it for example "We shall form battallions and march!".
What do you think of the Dutch anthem by the way? It's the oldest national anthem in the world...
@oranjuh and also the verse in english is pure cheese - so corny and kitch! i think in the future they should scrap the latter two verses and stick to the african original! afterall it is africa and the original song is a product of that environment and history etc! by the way i am english but have ancestry from ireland, scotland, france and luxembourg! i am feircely proud of england/ireland/scotland/wales and love the lions! have you seen docu about 1974 lions tour of south africa? a 'must see'
@oranjuh thanks for message and i enjoy chatting about these things haha - just to be clear i support england, but think the welsh anthem is the best - their language fits the melody so beautifully and it is not the usual kind of triumphant anthem! eng/ire/scot have these crap triumphant anthems... nkosi sikileli africa (excuse spelling) is like the welsh anthem cos its not triumphant and suits the land it represents - yes it is lovely anthem haha i am jelous! dont forget check out 1974 tour !!!
Well, I don't want to talk down any anthem really. Everyone supports their own anthem, which they should. But when I heard the South African anthem for the first time, I got filled with emotions. Got goosebumps all over me. I get goosebumps too when I hear the English sing with all their heart and massive voice, but not of the anthem itself or the text they sing.
Two great anthems. I hate the way we Americans handle our anthem. No one sings along, I think it makes us look like bad fans. Was at the US-Uruguay game in Salt Lake City, there were only like a hundred Uruguay fans compared to like 300 USA fans, but the Uruguayans put us to shame, good thig the Eagles won the game haha.
your anthem is huge thats why youd be better off having a shortened down version of the anthem to one verse like god save the queen was shortened for sporting events
epic!! As a saffa the English anthem brings goosbumps, the SA antem brings much more. I wish supporters from both sides would realise that the feeling would not be possible without the other team. The ethos of rugby is built upon respect and appreciation of opposition teams. The only reason we can celebrate (bask) in our teams victory is because we respect the power of that team. If they were not worthy opponents it would be a formality. Respect must be given where respect is due.
@futureboy3009 yer man, i'm only young but it did bring a tear to my eye, i love my country :) (UK) signing up for army soon so i'll defend tis anthem
@futureboy3009 The English national anthem brings shame to the notion of democracy and liberty and should be abolished and replaced with God Save the people or our home England
why everyone arguing over a vid like this, pathetic its beautiful, and other people that come on ea looking for an argument are even more pathetic, its sad that you click on a vid just to make pedantic comments! again beautiful vid
The thing about the SA anthem is that its a barometer that indicates how the Springboks (especially the Afrikaner players) will play. If they sing with passion then you know they are going to play with uncompromising "disregard for the body" physicality, courage and passion.
I'm a very proud irish man! Can't wait to hear this in croke park in november!! Wish i could get over to your great rugby country for lions but cant!!
Awesome, but the best is when the 'Boks sang the anthem in the 1995 WC final. Tears rolling down his cheeks, James Small had this glazed staring-right -through-the-camera look in his eyes... It gave him a "warriors of Allah" appearance, and it was the same for everyone else on the team. And as a Kiwi watching this before the game I started to get a "really bad" feeling in my gut. The bloody 'Boks were going to die for the cause! Sadly (& unlike the All Blacks) they did and....won.
Goosebump stuff, the way both teams convey emotion for the pation they have towards their respective anthems, it's always my fav part to belt it out in unity ...very lil comes close to it
i am american, and to hear the national anthem sung well, does bring a tear to my eye. however, the south african anthem is beautiful, based on what it stands for and how far the country has come.
no, baltimore harbor was defended against an overwhelming force consisting of the greatest navy at the time. it is a symbol that even though our nation is young, we were and are strong. now, right now, we have some work to do, but we are still here. and the british national anthem, i'm sorry it is 'my country tis of thee' as far as i am concerned.
1.i'm not british 2. the shite those english pricks up there ^^ are singing is considered the british anthem, you lot ripped off my country tis of thee be it temporarily
ok, irish, welsh or scottish then? i know it is god save the queen. i was being sarcastic. and i was saying something nice about the south african anthem, i wasn't trying to be nasty.
Yeah over your English anthem? the fag anthem of Europe. But don't worry, in 20 years the English anthem will become the Pakistan anthem, then you can learn Urdu and sound even more gay
this is how you should represent your country footballers should take note look at how much passion they have. both teams of hard men who are willing to show their true emotions to represent their country, the only english footballer that has done that in the last 20 years was gazza when he knew he would miss the final if they got to it.
Usually when John Smit sings our beautiful national anthem he looks so composed, look at him in this he is so pumped up and ready to take the World Cup back to its natural home. Pity Uncle Thabo didn't sing
That would be really sad. In My eyes the Springbok stand form the team (i believe they beated england last weekend) and should stay proudly on those guys shirts. (The springboks made me interested in Rugby).
Formost I'm a football follower. The biggest difference between Football & Rugby though is that the Rugby players are proud of their country and it shows through the national anthems. Unlike the football ones, it seems like its just the Fans in Football.

Why isn't it only niggers in the SA team? UK should have niggers too, but I guess not.. Since the only immigrants u got are sand niggers rofl, and they don't work.
I reckon the best sung SA national anthem was by the 'Soweto Gospel Choir' in their album Blessed, at their concert in the Opera House in Sydney, Australia. Oh, I'm from Fiji btw!
The England national anthem sucks compared to the South African one. England one is all about saving the Queen and not England, while South African one is about saving South Africa
because south africa is a nation made up of all different kinds of people. you have english south africans so respect! the south african national anthem is made up of 4 south african languages english being one of them
Both anthems are brilliant. As an Englishman I obviously was moved by our anthem but loved the South African anthem as well. "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika" ;-)
Support! I agree with you :O) And that's why I'm missing Englang at the euro championships. England have the word's best fans and I'm saying as half SA :O(
can someone pls provide the lyrics of the South African Anthem?

Zeer mooi lied, het Zuid Afrikaanse volkslied, love the country, and I'm very proud that we (SA and NL) both share a part of our heritage! Groeten uit NL

South Africa's anthem puts England's to shame on this occasion.

Lol @ Gordon Brown singing! He looks bloody miserable!
Its so funny the way the english anthem is so short compared to the sa one!

Good to see blacks singing the Afrikaans part too, and vice versa for the black African languages being sung by the whites.

Both anthems are brilliant. As an Englishman I obviously was moved by our anthem but loved the South African anthem as well. "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika" ;-)

Every one of the players singing their national anthems. True ambassadors for the sport. You don't get that anywhere else.
