You know that shouldn't shock you, because many people use religion as a means to get people to do what "they" want and to degrade other people. Many religious people in authority use their authoritative power to promote their own agenda, forgetting that they tell us to love everyone, while they themselves are putting people down. I CANT say that I'm religious, but I definitely know I'm spiritual, and sometimes I feel that that's all one needs to survive. [BTW I'm not saying thats ALL religions]
I love you <3 And I hate Prop 8 even though I live in Finland and thanks god we don't have such things here :D Lutheran church is really accepting. In my opinion the most accepting of all the religions in the world. I just feel like this Prop 8 is so American thing... Even though I don't wanna judge people. I met one american guy who was Laestadian and when I told bout my orientation he was pretty much fine with it. I was really surprised as he was part of this church with strick rules.
One thing for me to say, God loves every single person on this earth, So there for he loves homosexuals. That is what I believe to be true, If God is supposed to love everyone, and no matter how many times a person sins, he forgives them everytime, That should mean that he loves us bi and gay people. What the priest says (even though I know it's part of the Bible) is spreading hate by saying being that way is evil and whatever else. So, where's the equality in that? Answer: there is none.
I totally agree with this video. I always viewed California as the headliner when it comes to gay/lesbian issues. It saddens me that society is still apprehensive about the gay community when it is already widespread and it not going away. Putting a restraint on marriage is wrong and it feels as if we are going backwards in our way of thinking. What really upsets me is that your church tried to persuade people for prop 8 and use the lord as means to gamble in our beliefs. Thats is wrong.
wow, i would like to say that the same thing happend to me.... im baptist and while our elders where gdoing the openning program they asked us to vote yes on prop 8. i almost started to cry. and my father just acted like it was ok. it was most likly the most horible mommnet of my like haha thankyou for sayin something!
My church isn't this bad, but I definitely get what you're saying. When the priest started talking about this I was really uncomfortable (I'm in my school's Gay-Straight Alliance and I know people that have been fighting this issue even before Prop 8.) but what bugged me the most was that my mom agreed that gay marriage shouldn't be legal. :|
who are they to say "no" on who you can marry? marriage is about love. it doesnt matter whether its between a man and a woman, or a man and a man or a woman and a woman, if they've got love, then they've got it. no one should step between them and say that they can or cant marry each other.
we just need to all stand together and support each other. for people voting against gay marriage, what if your children told you they were gay? would you hate them and not let them be happy?
Children ARE confused by the issue! Frances committee representing both sides CAREFULLY investigate & review the FACTS surrounding same-sex couples & kids. Some liberals argued against their findings, but bottom line: Parliament said the rights of children were more important EVEN if they were in conflict with the parents LIFESTYLE CHOICES. France PROHIBITS same-sex marriage, same-sex adoption, and anything that would bring children into a fatherless home! Family: Mother, Father, Children!
It is OK to be in a "Fatherless" home, if that home is full of hate, abuse, arguing, etc. Children are way more healthy if they are in an enviroment like that. If a child is loved by two Mom's or two Dad's WTF does it matter. Prop 8 WILL be overturned in the California Supreme Court! If my church even mentioned this issue, I would by outta there! There is a reason we seperate church and state. What if a Prop issue was about banning birth control because of religious ideals? UMMMMM!
Prop 8 has nothing to do with 2 dad's having a family. That discussion was about France. Prop 8 was about the definition of Marriage. When prop 22 passed not 1 Single Gay right was lost & 8 is the same 14 words. 27 other states had similar constitutional laws. Counting CA the number is now 30. Its not a ban on Civil Unions; just a restoration of the basic meaning of a centuries old word. Instead of birth control, which would affect rights, just have both Green & Red be called Red from now on.
Good job my friend. Nicely said. And highly appreciated.
Its about time more people speak out that everyone should be able to marry the ones they love. No matter what the circumstance. And that priest was AN IDIOT and A selfish ass wholes. Incest and bestiality have nothing to do with Gay marriage.
I'm gay. I don't believe in marriage let alone gay marriage but I'd support the gay marriage movement just for the sake of fighting against hate and discrimination, even if I don't want to get married.
It really surprised me to hear you say that the stance of the catholic church surprised you. Knowing the history and doctrine of the catholic church and so many horror stories coming out of it, I am certainly not surprised at anything your priest said. Sorry
♥♥♥♥♥i love the way you speak and the way your so passionate about this we really need more people like you representing because you state the facts you make its very clear this video made me cry i just really want to thank you from the bottom of my heart♥♥♥♥♥
...we should be accepting because that's what jesus would've done. if the church has a problem, i believe both should have a logical discussion with both communities represented and those who are curious. God bless man
now i dont agree with the way the pastor handled the situation. i often cringe when i see church members and officials protesting homosexuality and marriage. that's not the way jesus would've gone about it and that's not how the church community should go about it. i personally don't believe homosexuality is the way of the Lord but i know for a fact He doesn't hate you for it so neither should the church and it's people...
to me i feel like the priest had no right to talk about the gay community like that.. in my eyes everybody is equal no matter what ur sexuality is there shouldnt be anyone tellin u who u should marry or who u can marry the gay community are people too who have the same feelings as sraight people so why cant they get married and jus be happy??!!
"your turning your back on the lord if you dont vote for prop 8" WHAT THE FUCK?!?!? this goes back in history when ppl would use religion to scare ppl into what THEY think is right. people who call themselves christians and are judgmental and hate others are NOT doing what God wants them to do. i honestly think that God cares more about what you do with your character and oppertunities and the desicions you make in life rather than who you would prefer to marry. ppl seriously need 2 get it right
Thanks for posting this Vlog, Joaquin. I have a few things to say. I am a devout Catholic and I am gay. I know that God loves me regardless of my sexual orientation. Also, I am very surprised and disturbed that that priest said that during his homily. I would've walked out with you because what he was doing was spreading hate. I also read the Election Information Guide and read what they had to say about Prop 8.
Those for it claim that it "does NOT take away any rights and does NOT interfere with gays living the lifestyle they choose." I find two things wrong with this: 1) we definitely don't choose this lifestyle; we are born gay, and 2) denying homosexuals the right of marriage is denying them equality. We are not second-rate citizens therefore we shouldn't be treated as such. I wish I were old enough to vote so I can vote HELLTOTHEMOTHAFUCKIN` NO on Prop 8.
Realtalk people can say anything they want, but "Is it in the bible?" and "Is that how it is meant to be taken?", are the two questions I always ask when it comes to God and preachers. Good job for not letting it effect your relationship, but don't let your feelings about being gay or anything interfere with what God says, because even if you don't agree or want it to be so, it's still the truth.
i feel the same as u. and i feel SO frustrated when i go to church and just listen to all this hate that is being said. it sucks, bcuz alot of ppl that go to church believe EVERYTHING that the priests say, ..so they need to be careful what they say :/
To me this is a matter of conscience and therefore personal. It is up to each person to weigh the matters on both sides and not blindly join either bandwagon. Carefully, consider the ramifications of either decision. Read the text of Prop8 for yourself and also listen to arguments made by well-informed speakers on both sides of the issue. Notice I didn't say the loudest speaker, as more often than not truth is protected by a bodyguard of lies. Right decisions are NOT the most apparent.
Joaquin: I love ya man. Thanks for putting yourself out there. This series is your best for sure. Many states besides California are facing similar propositions and all of us in our own states need to educate our friends, loved ones and neighbors. Much respect, much love and thank you again.
Simply ludicrous, never in my devoted catholic life have I ever encountered a priest that delivered a homily with a preposterous plead to volunteer/advocate a certain proposition in politics. Politics and Religion are not something to mix together so loosely, and this priest made point to make his message clear to the people in church. ARGH.
It is the will of God to follow what one believes and what the church believes, he has instilled us with a conscience and free will. Catholicism, parishes more specifically in Catholicism do not all advocate so commandingly their belief in the right of "marriage," this particular church-(Priest) did however use guilt, forcing his message to the masses in discrimination toward same sex marriage, not only in his homily but after the prayers of the faithful.
If God hates gays, and to be Godly as much as you can, that means you are to hate gays as well. it's not teaching hate. But the hate of the sin, and as long as one lives in the sin.
He first or maybe he did(I wasn't there) teach you to be gay is a sin.
Now that you know, you have that chioce, to live in that sin or not to live in that sin.
i love having gay friends...i say let them do what they want and if they need to answer to god, then let it happen...don't tell people what to do.i'm sorry your feelings were hurt. some people take gods words too deep to the point where they make up their own meanings...
your priest was right about following god's words and wishes, BUT I honestly believe that, if people are willing to commit a sin that is supposedly a sin..then let them do it and THEY'RE the ones to deal with God and God will punish them if he thinks they've done wrong. I'm not against gays or anything...
Most of the people who want Prop8 to pass and those who spread the message of discrimination and hate are misinformed and unaware of the message of God.
