@Brn2FlyUL You'd think so, but I have read that it's safer and less damaging to skid on a hard surface. If you land on a soft surface, there is a danger that the aircraft will dig in and really tear something off. Worst case, it might flip over.
@DiamondPilotDan i think you can buy the lancair as a kit or full production...they are over priced ...not roomy...if you want comfort speed and nice landing gear for about the same money buy a a36 bonanza or piper saratoga..much better quality planes...
@inbound1000 - purchase a used one. There a ton of them out there and comparing a Lancair IV or Legacy to an A36, Saratoga or Mooney is like comparing apples and bacon.
The Lancair IV has a useful load of 1350lbs, cruises at 330mph at 18gph and has a range of 1500 miles.
Great landing given the circumstances. Im surprised there was no means of manually cranking the gear down in the IV. It could have been a lot worse......
Why not land in the grass!! Much less damage.

i thought a lancair had stiff legs...same as cirrus?

@inbound1000
No.. they wouldn't get the speeds that they do out of the lancair if they fixed gear hanging in the wind the entire time.

Great Landing, but was the Cameraman drunken? Couldn´t he hold the Cam without earthquake?

That blows! It could have been worse though. I'm also curious about why the manual extension didn't work?

@cff121 There is, just in this case that had failed as well. The issue prevented manual extension.
