@kobac Yeah that's where I first heard it too (although that was the album version, not this version). It's such a weird mix, because it's such a beautiful (but haunting) song (and originally was written about her cat), but I associate it with something far darker now
This song is devastatingly beautiful. Joni's voice conveys the desperate loneliness and sorrow like someone who has actually been there. And her lyrics... once again proving to us all that her words are poetically perfect for this gorgeous melody. Love the harmonies too. Haunting stuff.
I've always preferred this version over Joni's rerecorded and officially released version on 'Taming the Tiger'. This one just has so much more yearning....
OMG! This is extraordinary. Please tell me if you know...where can I find this recording to purchase? I am not a bootlegger and I don't 'burn' things. I believe artists should be paid for their work. Is this released anywehre that you know of? Any info you that could be provided would be very much appreciated!!
@ilovemusicsomuch , this was unintentionally included in the initial release of the soundtrack for GRACE OF MY HEART; a soon forgotten film released in circa 1996. The soundtrack should have had this song performed by another artist (forget who) but JM's demo version (this) was put on by accident. Within a couple of weeks of the release, the mistake was realized and all unsold copies were recalled. Have seen the recalled CDs for sale on EBAY from time to time. You might try there.
@ganesh64 and @ilovemusicsomuch, I have the original version of the Grace of My Heart CD. This song is credited to Kristen Vigard (fine singer in her own right), although it is Joni performing it. The song was written when Joni lost her cat, which she called "the man from mars". Stunning how Joni could write a song about a missing cat that was 10X better than most others could write about losing a loved human. Message me if you're interested in finding a copy.
Thanks for posting! Is there anywhere I can get a copy of this? I used to have it on a withdrawn version of the Grace of my Heart soundtrack, which I sold because I didn't realize how rare it was. I kinda miss listening to it.
honestly, this song just touches me in a way no joni song can. i don't know what it is... i LOVE this song. thank you so so much for sharing this beautiful wonder. you're the best, xo!
I heard this song on movie "The Bridge", about suiciders jumping from Golden Gate. Has a totally different meaning to me since I've seen the movie...

@ilovemusicsomuch BTY, I once read this song was inspired by JM's favorite cat after he went missing.
