That exchange between the students was fascinating, considering this was made before Watchmen. The third student said that we needed a refreshing point of view on Superheroes, and something that "says something". Five years after she says those words, Watchmen comes out.
This is a great documentry, i hope someone uploads a BBC Late Show documentry, which was all about Batman it came out when the first film was released in 89
Funny when the one girl says superheroes are really played out--Watchmen and DKR hadn't even happened yet. People have been saying that since 1945 I'm sure.
Wertham was so wrong. He conveniently forgets that the essential appeal of Superman is that he is secretly Clark Kent, the everyman. He forgets this because it would interfere with his hypothesis.
Oh my gosh, this is hilarious!! The guy talking in the beginning has lost the plot, Superman is fiction, he is talking about it like its real, that's so sad!!
I want to be mad at those art students and "professionals" about breaking down comics and thinking of them as childish, but then I have to think it was 1981. The tone of comics was about to change and open up with the readers that grew up with them and the ones to come. I hate to bring up what has kinda become the cliche' example, but Watchmen wouldn't coming for like another five years. Even though I cannot stand his views, I would love to see what Wertham would have thought about that book.
It's simpler than that, I think. Superman didn't get the girl only in the days when the books were consciously aimed at pre-teen boys. Like any well designed product, the stories were tailored for their market. As soon as the target group changed, so did the characters' romantic situation.
Of course, Larry Niven is dead right about what he said. The thing that makes the most sense about Kingdom Come is Supermans' hooking up with Wonder Woman. They'd be an ideal match.
..the women...er.GIRLS...in the class room really should have signed up for some friggin 'Womens Studies' class, so they could bitch and gripe about how 'oppressed' they percieve themselves to be...
that's just not true. he wrote a book about fan-zines later in his life and in it said he was wrong... but even so. that doesn't make up for taking an entire medium and setting it back to the stone age.

Despite what is stated here from I Tunes..Mr.Jack Cassidy doesn't duet with Mr.Holiday on "Doing Good"..Mr.Holiday does the tune solo.

I love hearing that tune again from the Broadway stage musical"It's Superman"
"Doing Good!"performed by the gentleman..who first sang the song..Mr.Bob
Holiday.

Oh God! How I hate the obnoxious and unnessicary explainations
provided by Dr.Wertheim,Prof.Fielder and Mr.Niven.

Obviously?
Professor.Fielder and Mr.Niven never saw"Lois & Clark:The
New Adventures Of Superman"on tv..where Clark Kent finally marries Lois Lane..he finally gets the girl.
