  • True biz? Visually hand waving is lots more fun and seems to have taken on it's own identity as an easily seen in a large room way to show appreciation. Along with a bunch of stomping and hollering ;oD SH

  • I'm opposite, I'm hearing, but when I'm at a concert or something, and a performer just had a solo, or played a passage really well, I do the 'hand wave' so that they can see my appreciation without disrupting what they are playing afterward. I know people who clap in that instance and then that sound disrupts the music...

  • .. i want to learn and understand this impressive language

(it would be just awesome with some subtitles for people who don´t understand .. like me ^^)

  • I always love your vlogs, man! Keep it up!

  • @Deafornot dot c om is an online community for deaf, ASL and hearing-impaired friends and singles!

Have fun with photos, message boards, chat, blog and more.

  • Do you mind give me the website of those history? I would like to research about it. Thanks for your sharing the news.

  • I just choose to do it in another language. From my point of view encouraging deaf people not to use a perfectly good sign like the 'hand wave' is like encouraging opera audiences to abandon shouting the French word 'encore' because the the audience is English speaking . Yes, the audience can shout "more" and some do, but really, what is wrong with "encore"? It's fine by me if some deaf people don't like the 'hand wave' -clap if you like. But I really like the 'hand wave'.

  • Hmm- I think I might be the odd one out here. I'm not deaf and speak English, but I like the 'hand wave' applause. When I am at sports events and my voice gets hoarse and my hands get sore from clapping (that doesn't take long) l still like to applaud. The 'hand wave' is perfect for doing this. Really, it's just another way to applaud.

  • VERY FUNNY!!!!

    GOOD JOB, DEAFROGER

  • LOL You're always a great pleasure to watch and extremely funny! I have to say that I agree with you about the applause-I despise the deaf applause and would never do so myself. Thanks for sharing!

  • I have to say I definitely disagree. I have two deaf parents and grew up in the deaf culture. I heard and seen deaf people, applaud, do deaf applause, and do vocal applause and I believe there are various situations in which all of those are and are not appropriate. That goes for hearing or deaf people.

  • You're entitled to your own opinion. I'm post lingually deaf who have acquired the spoken speech prior to my hearing loss. I honestly despise the deaf applause simply because it makes the deaf people appear unsually abnormal. If I was to give an award to a hearing person who does not understand deafness/deaf culture, why would I want to spook this person with a deaf applause? It makes no absolute sense. I believe the deaf people should rid of the deaf applause and return to clapping instead

  • My ASL teacher hated deaf applause. you are right.. you can see hands clapping..

    love the vlogs!

  • @TrumpBoy91 & @RDCgirl,

you missed DeafRoger's point. He was only trying to be funny and give you ridiculous etymologies of the Handwave.

There used to be a similar way at Deaf banquets before WW II. They twirled cloth napkins.

    Hartmut

  • @Hartmut1940 I got that it was funny, thanks though.

  • Very good

  • Please give us subtitles.

  • omg hahaha..this is funny.

  • I agree with u, i don't really like deaf appalause because when i applaud in any events, i always do hearing applause because its silly to raise your hand in air for just to applaud, and hearing applause do have a respect for deaf because us can see it too, its not like its invisible, only sound, know what i mean?

  • I completely agree with you-there is no need for a deaf applause. Hearing applause is fine and I think deaf applause makes a person look abnormal and stupid. I'm spreading the words to quit doing that.

  • I have no idea what the chap said and that makes me sad. I think signing is awesome and I wish I knew it.

  • Now that's a funny coincidence. On numerous occasions I was kidding my interpreter to finish when I used Deaf applause. I never thought until you explained logically. I have one more question how you could sign a word of "audism" instead of fingerspell.

  • I know exactly what you are talking about w/ the vocal deaf applause. I'm not deaf but my Dad is. I've heard him and there is NO way that I could get my voice to do that.

  • Your right I am hearing and I can't do the vocal deaf applause grrr :(

  • i always use hearing applause more than deaf applause but if i goin to deaf events then i would use deaf applause but most time, i do use hearing applause cuz im love that more than deaf..

  • I dont like deaf applause. The hearing applause is fine with me. I am deaf and proud of it and I am sick of some deaf people idea and not want to be like hearing applause. They are obviously against the hearing applause. Nothing is wrong with that. Please stop picky on hearing applause. I like hearing applause better than deaf applause because deaf applause looks funny and weird.

  • I'm with you, buddy.

I hate it, and normally we are born to hearing world, and we are so used to their applause.

I'll give you a thumb up, because we have same options.

  • Just you know, I was referring to Rockmangames's option.

  • Thumb Up! Im with you! Im born into a massive deaf family, surpisely none of us use deaf applause, cos it look so stupid! I'll stick to my 'hearing' applause! :)

  • I totally agree with you that the deaf applause looks ridiculously stupid and would never do this. I stick to the "hearing applause". I think the deaf applause would spook the hearing people so why bother? A deaf person who has vision can see applause so why change? Ridiciulous!

  • that's cool.. never "heard" that before, I will show this video to some of my friends this weekend.

    Thanks

  • lol yea, you gotta yell from the diaphragm rather from the throat. ive seen a few kids from CSDR yell instead of hand waving. cool video

  • LAFFINGG!

  • That was a good one, very funny! I am deaf myself also!

  • That's so NEW to me! I learned about where "handwaving" applause began. It began in France when both French Deaf Organization and Gallaudet's Laurent Clerc Organization unveiled Clerc's birthplace. After his birthplace was unveiled, Dr. Eastman, Gallaudet's Drama Dept Chairman, who participated in the ceremony, returned home and shared the new thing he learned with Gallaudetians (students, faculty and staff), then the handwaving applause began.

    Thank you..

  • wow awsm i need to show my dad and mom this

  • (deaf applause vibrating earthquake) WHOO!!!

  • Lol that would be nice if deafies would all unite and listen to that

  • Ha ha ha! Many times I watched movies. People not screaming loud enough getting themselves or somebody killed got me all riled up. I said, "If that was me filmming that movie, I'd make it realistic. I'd make that person scream to be heard when it's a matter of life and death.

  • LOL That's why Deaf love the Shower room in Deaf Dorm because make huge vibrations all over LOL

  • WOW.. i cant believe this.. Hearing people tend to say anything behind our backs because we cant hear what they say.. we have to be very careful and look closely to them..

yeah.. Honestly, i dont like deaf appaulse because i dont feel right bout that..

if you want to talk to me, let me know.
