the detroit 14 litre engine is one piece of shit! The older 12.7 is so much better. Mine is a mere 430 horse, performs well grossing 80000, and fuel mileage is always around 6.7 Mine has been paid for for several years, wouldnt trade the debt free status for anything. Keep on truckin

ahhh dude..this engine is AWSOME! Got the DD15 560....I hauled super B trains in the bush this winter. 2010 Cascadia interoir is huge also. and quiet. Yes the rack n pinion steering is great. Pulls like no other, HONEST. They say the fuel mileage actually gets better and it's off the lot and already getting better fuel economy than our '05 Western Stars. I don't let it go over 1200rpm's ....AWSOME! Yes it is ugly at 1st! Those mirrors make it look like atennas off a bug or something!

i am factory trained on this engine and it is a whole diffrent animal. im suprised with it. ive mader dyno runs with it the power curve is great. get ready for the dd13 and so on.

I hope the DD15 works out for Detroit. We need at least one alternative big bore motor to the Cummins ISX now that CAT is leaving the on highway scene.

Initial reports I've heard are all positve, but I heard some say the ISX is still the hardest pulling of the 2 motors, but the DD15 is getting better fuel mileage.

One thing very noticeable is Mercedes Benz fingerprints all over the design of this motor. I hope that doesn't affect the Detroit nameplate.

not quite. they're not building highway truck engines. but they've partnered up with navistar(international) and basically the powermaxx 13 and 15 are c-13 and c-15 cats with navistar top end. also cat will be building a truck, for severe duty jobs.(like service trucks ect) cat pulled out of the truck engine industry to focus on the machinery segment.

I was fortunate enough to get to drive one of these trucks and they are sweet. You're absolutely right about it being quiet and the steering is really tight. It held the road very well. I wasn't pulling a trailer but still, it's hard to describe the feeling of driving something that nice. I just wish there was more room in the sleeper. Also, I like the idea of not having a visor because I used to hate it when the snow would get stuck up there and then fall down suddenly. Made me jump every time.

I'm no longer driving for them and am desperately looking for another driving job. Got turned down by Swift about 35minutes ago. Excuse me but I drive a new Cascadia and after repeatedly returning to the shop and driving the truck in working conditions I can say flatly, "This truck is an electronic nightmare. It has about 7 computers that regulate components that weren't causing any real problems until Freightliner decided to computerize them. Like the turn signals on the back of the tractor. After driving the Cascadia for 1 week I had to return to the shop because the computer regulating the turn signals wasn't flashed.

I have been talking with a lot of drivers about this truck lately (in the real world) and they have had no problems. Maybe you got a bad one eh? And there is a computer that regulates the turn indicators? WOW that is different.

From what i understand there are some changes to the sleeper. However, the model i was in was bare bones so i didn't get to see all the changes. But, when or if i get one i will be sure to make a video about it to show it off.

Scania have started the Turbo compounding over here too. Don't notice anything different when driving, but sure makes sense if it works well. Something similar was tried a few years ago and didn't work good. No doubt it is better engineered now.

I was lucky to see that truck 3-4 months ago at a freightliner dealer in coburg OR. I agree that is a real nice truck for the feeling you have in it. It has alot more room in it than the older freightliners. It was also explained to me that the DD-15 was a creation from all engine builders it was more cost effective that way the expense was just to high todo it alone.
