I actually work on the KC-135 and its a very small tanker, as to why we choose boeing is beyond me, the airbus would have been a wiser solution its bigger carrys way more fuel with equals more time in the air witch = more bombers and fighters providing ground support for our boots on the ground.... buts thats just my opinion seeing as i work on these things everyday
