is it possible to add A universal supercharger on my 08 lancer cvt 2.0l 4 cylinder 4b11 motor. I know A turbo goes good with 4 cylinder engines because A supercharger is way safer, reliable, less maintanance, instant power, no turbo lag so honestly I rather go with a supercharger then turbo for the cost.
When you consider that this supercharger only adds 18lbs tobthe passenger side, a v8 isnt really comparable especially since you can get pulleys for this that can make over 300hp
Not saying the supercharger wasn't bad ass but seeing how it was only putting out 200hp it makes me wonder if a v8 swap is more sensible. Then again he said he was not done tuning it and I did not catch how much boost he was running on the engine if he said. It's always cool to see something out of the ordinary that no one or few people have done before.
@firefoxmoz v8 swap adds at minimum another 300kg to the kerb weight, to say the MX5 is less than 1,000kg to start is a massive difference. It makes the MX5 weigh the same as a family saloon, not the light nimble roadster it is supposed to be.

Turbochargers are not faster than superchargers.That's why aircraft use superchargers.Like the Supermarine Spitfire using the supercharged Rolls Royce engine which was also used in the P51 Mustang .

I was wondering, does anyone make a Ford 5.0 Small-Block kit for this second-gen Miata? Just curious. Forced induction is great, and I do love Superchargers, Turbochargers, and twincharger setups, but like the great Walter Owen Bentley said, "There is no replacement for displacement."

I've got an '03 Mk 2.5 1840cc MX5 with just 25K miles. I'm thinking of fitting a supercharger to it (other than a S/S exhaust and K&N Typhoon air-induction, it's stock) and have been advised to go for the Eaton MP62. At low boost (5/6PSI), I've been told it should increase output to 200BHP.
My question is: are there any downsides (other than cost!!) to having this work carried out? Can the standard clutch-plates cope with the extra torque? Any advice from those who in the know?
The stageone kits are pretty nice, but that power card is a bit of a joke.
What is really messed up is that the owner of the company makes bold faced lies about how that little POS piggyback works, and tries to make false claims against other tuning methods as being inferior, which is laughable.
I built one of these with the Jackson Racing unit, fuel pump, and electronics. Really needed the intercooler for Summer. But, running it in the Fall was so fast you had to shift from 1 to 3, or start in 2. Car had the six speed. Very fast car.
I am sure claims of 200 are accurate. With the intercooler maybe more.
@estatejay Wait, you mentioned "the intercooler". This is a FFS setup isn't it? That I know of, they don't utilize a traditional intercooler in any of their designs. By all accounts I've read, it does more than keep up with temps as well, even in the worst of heat. I'm confused..

The camera car is not a 1991, they did not have dual airbags back then. I like the silver miata too and I have nothing against a supercharger, but once you learn how to drive a turbo you can almost eliminate lag. I was going to go super charger but in the end I went turbo. with a turbo you need to carry tools LOL

Even WOT at 6k RPMs he just pulled away from me like he was driving a Corvette or something. And what's cooler than a roots-type supercharger? That awesome SOUND. The instant torque of the roots/screw type supercharger is exaclty what this engine and car always needed.
If you want to get rid of that annoying buzz it's really easy. Just reach under the dash above the pedals and unplug the buzzer. It's easy to find if you make it start buzzing then feel around for it.

Then quite a few miles down the road we both just happened to be still near eachother so I pulled over to say hi to him and he followed. It was pretty cool.
I would much prefer having a supercharged Miata instead of a turbocharged one. With all but the most sophisticated new turbos (by Porsche, etc) they give the engine an annoying pause between when you give it throttle and you actually start accelerating. It's called turbo lag. With supercharging you don't have this at all. You have all the power and torque available instantly, and at much lower RPMs than with a turbocharged engine. And that cool whine that goes with it!
Yeah really. Such a breath of fresh air to see a supercharger on a little engine rather than a turbocharger. With no-lag power, you are free to juice it around town, between stoplights and stuff, not just an all-out freeway onramp-kind of power.
