@darthbandon10 Actually, they changed the class to the TIE Avenger for the mass produced models. I think they changed the model name to not confuse it with Vader's TIE from A New Hope. It's also why the group is called "Avenger"

@celldwellerhell that's right ... T/As are a premium in the empire due to its first of its kind, ability to hold warheads by default as well as the ability to jump to hyperspace where all previous TIEs can't.

I believe it was the T/Ds that is rare. T/Ds are extremely rare due to several reasons, ie, costs, initial sabotage, and danger of failing into enemy hands... it's easily the best starfighter in the galaxy at that time..
