for me susan is my least fav. lucy is in the top. Susan so gentle & pretty, but I dislike how she was harsh to lucy & made her cry when she disbelieved lucys's story about the narnia. wasn't she the one that refused to believe it the most. yes, peter don't believe in lucy too at first, but i felt that susan is the least to believe it since she's a bit nasty to lucy at first. so, it's not weird for me that she suddenly change to became an unbeliever again. i guess everybody has different opinion
I cired at the end of the book when I understood what Aslan meant. You have to feel so bad for Susan. The death of her family most likely made her want to believe again.
@ThaliaGraceLover Why didn't CSL write the story of Susan? There are plenty of people who regret that such a beautiful character was separated from her family and Narnia; there are certainly many fanfics that attempt to continue the saga of Susan the Gentle.
every 1 from all the movies came back in the end to defeat the Dark lord - but lucys revival vial runs out an susan get shot an dies - very sad- but nickabreech the mouse an that dwarf an all that come back
As for Susan, in the film she is portrayed as a better person (particularly in "Prince Caspian"). In the book she was the one who occasionally behaved nasty, was the last to believe etc - whereas in the film she is much more sympathethis, and thus I now feel that it is strange that she should forget Narnia. Probably, as some suggested here, if Disney makes it to the "Last battle", she will be shown as remorseful and there will be a hint that she will eventually find her way tonarnia, too
Actually, althought they die in a train accident, it doesn't sound like a sad ending on the book, as they all go back to Narnia, like they wanted (and their family is there, too). On the other hand, this is, of course, another way of saying that they died and went to heavens (Narnia representing the Heavens), in a sense "The last battle" sounds for me like what CSL wanted to depict allegorically will happen after the Second Coming of the Christ - there will be a kingdom of Heaven on Earth
With the past three films now adapted, we see some things added that were not in the books, so there is STILL hope that Susan will recognize Narnia as a real place in the end of The Last Battle and join her siblings, despite not having believed before. However, the films do not appear to hold back from ending bittersweetly or sad somehow so there IS still a chance that Susan will NOT go to Aslan's country, but we might see a hint towards a later change of faith. I'm pretty sure it will b either.
@idreamofla1day That is what I want, and 'tis perfectly logical. The shock of losing her entire family will most certainly shake her out of her complacency, and start her on her miision on Earth: to continue the family line; and then, after a long life--if she was born in 1928, she is 82 today--to die and be received into Narnia.
@belianis She doesn't believe in Narnia. It was a 'game' as she put it so when she dies she doesn't go back there ever again. I always thought C.S.Lewis was unfair on Susan making her die without her family. Oh well.. :P
the last battle was confusing cuz i didn't know the died (sniffle) until the end. but it stinks that susan lives cuz she should of been with her family :(
@StarStruckDreamer156 read the last battle yourself! " 'There WAS a real railway accident' Aslan told them gently. 'You're mother and father and all of you are - as you used to call it in the Shadowlands - dead.' " That is a DIRECT quote from the final page of the book.
@StarStruckDreamer156 Peter, Edmund, Lucy, Digory, Polly, Eustace, and Jill all die in The Last Battle. But as they die, Aslan brings them into the glorified eternal Narnia. Susan is the only one to live on, because she wasn't with the others.
i really like this video. it shows how did susan felt after the train crash. she regret that she didnt go with them and that she no longer belived in Narnia
"Lipstick, nylons and invitations" all Susan wanted in the end? I don't think so but I bet a lot of readers related to her being "the pretty one!" (at the expense of the younger kids ie the pretty one gets the most attention or luck). I always loved Lucy more .
@fenderplyr1 They, along with Eustace, Jill, Digory, and Polly, are all killed in a railway accident and through one thing and another find themselves in Aslan's country, in the Real Narnia to which the Narnia they knew before was just a shadow or a pale reflection.
@justlynnnn She may yet! There have been many fan stories in which she came to her senses and when her time came to die, she joined the others in Aslan's country.
@gtw1983 you said about the grandchildren bit, in my upcoming lego narnia movie christhopher( the main and only guy who goes into narnia) is lucy's grandson and was given peters sword
That sounds interesting!Could you send me a link when you finally post it?And do you mean Susans grandson,or is this an alternate Narnia version where Lucy didn't die?
@gtw1983 It would certainly fit in with the first chapter of THE MAGICIAN'S NEPHEW, where it's mentioned that Polly is writing an story that she doesn't want Digory to read just yet.
Susan no longer believes in Narnia. It's too painful for her; she believes she and her siblings have been exiled from their Country and from the Lion, and she denies them both because she can't take it. She is left alone in England after her siblings die, though Lewis expresses the faith that she will 'find her way back to Narnia in her own way.'
Peter and Ed were at the station, waiting for the train. Lu, Eustace, Polly, Jill, Digory, and the Pevensie parents were on the train. It crashed, which sent them all to Aslan's Country, except for Eustace and Jill, who help King Tirian, the last King of Narnia, in his efforts to save Narnia. It is the last battle, as Aslan ends Narnia and takes the Friends of Narnia (and the good Narnians, of course) into His Country, "further up and further in' until they get to the Garden. Su isn't there.
does anyone find it kindaa fishy how C.S. Lewis made it so that she neglects narnia right after she comes back from the U.S. knowing that narnia represents the zone ur in while ur at peace with God (Aslan)
maybe he thought the U.S. is too liberal. and that religion should be pushed in schools, so tht people who have found "narnia" dont return to their homeland claiming it didnt exist....hmmm...
i think cs lewis was just trying to explain that sometimes you get carried away with things don't really matter and that innocence and believing can be easily forgotten... it says that she started liking boys and other things like that... that sounds more fishy and it's been discussed in several books
I cried when I read the book, 'cause Susan is my favorite character in The Chronicles of Narnia, that's why ''The Last Battle'' is not my favorite book, but I realy love your video and the song is so beautiful =)
aaaaw I did read all of the books, and Susan is so much nicer in the movies as in the books. I can't believe she didn't believe in Narnia anymore! but the video and the song are beautiful! I'll try totally fits this video, GREAT!
Hm... Seeing as I haven't read the last book yet, I need some confirmation, please: Lucy, Edmund, Peter, and others (you know who they are) died in a train crash, right? (Yes, I red the description, I just need to be sure. I read on a website something else happened...) Thanks!
I've been wondering about Susan, too, you know? How she coped and what she did to move on and everything...? Man...that would be so hard...
Is it...wrong if I've started to hate Susan for choosing not to believe in Narnia anymore? I mean, I get the whole symbol thing, but I believe in Narnia with all of my heart, so...perhaps I'm biased...?
@7Write4This9Heart7 Yes. Peter, Edmund, Professor Kirke, Lucy, Aunt Polly, Eustace, Jill, and Mr. & Mrs. Pevensie die in a train crash and go to Aslan's Country.
Susan survived, but it is not said what happens to her afterward. Though many, including myself, like to believe that she later found her faith again.
when I read''the last battle'' I cry, because Susan reminds me of me because she don´t believes in Narnia and I don't belive in some things that before were very important to me
aww, how sweet!!! this song is called, I'll try, by jessie mccartney. i luv narnia, i wish she was coming back , i wonder how there going to have it about prince caspian cause you know how they kissed?? wow, can't wait!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
C.S. Lewis gave the excuse Susan is no longer a friend of narnia because she "Found Lipstick and Nylons and Invitations" He is basically saying Susan found her sexuality and most likely lost her virginity, so she isnt welcome in his version of the kingdom of heaven (he makes it no secret that Narnia is nothing but a metaphor for Catholic scripture, which sees any sort of sexuality (all the way, partial, or simply in thought or agenda) before marriage as pure evil) i think this is pure sexism
No, CS Lewis said that Susan is no longer a friend of Narnia because she made a choice - she chose to no longer believe in Narnia, so any repercussions of her choice have been sown by her own hand. Also, the characters were scathing about Susan only caring about "lipsticks and nylnos and invitations" because Susan chose them over Narnia - this doesn't symbolise her sexuality or loss of virginity, as that was never touched upno and is highly unlikely - this was written in the 50s.
Also, she could have chosen "puddings and carrots and pies." The characters would have been just as scathing. Finally, Lewis was not a sexist - some of his strongest characters were women - Lucy, Aravis, Polly, Jill. Claiming Lewis to be a sexist is jsut as narrow minded as people claimnig him to be rascist because the Calormenes were dark-skinned. Before pointing figners, we should all rememebr what colour the White Witch was. OK, rant over =)
The fact is, Christianity views women expressing sexuality as nothing but wicked ALWAYS HAS! the catholic church portrayed mary madgalene as a PROSTITUTE because they share such disdain for a woman who was beautiful and sexually active but not married until the 70's when they rebuked the myth Susan was a victim of sexism in more than just that way, as was Lucy. Lewis "Respected" women by giving them weapons, but in the true novels Susan may have shot an arrow TWICE at most, Lucy not once fought!
I'm not talking about Christianity or the Catholic church - even though I am a Christian (and no I'm not Catholic). The fact of the matter is Susan chose to believe Narnia was a figment of imagination - if you're gonig to bring God into this, a mdoern day comparison would be soemone saying "Oh God doesn't exist, he was just an imaginary friend I had when i was young" - you can't expect to jsut stroll into heaven then.
Also, Lucy fought in the books - in THAHS, Corin clearly said: "What nonsense! Queen Lucy is going to be with the archers." Therefore, she did fight. you can't say Lucy was a victim of sexism - she was portrayed as the strongest character there besides Aslan, because she remained faithful to him when nobody else would. Even in THAHB, Susan acted like "an ordinary grown-up lady." So it was inevitable that she would grow out of Narnia. Not to say I liked this ending - as a matter of fact I didn't
@Animeartist124 Try reading "Song of Solomon" in the Old Testament. If the Catholics were as sexist as you're trying to make them out to be, they'd have excised that bit of erotic poetry from the Bible.
Lewis respected women by showing them to be wise, compassionate, and often righter about things than the males. In Lucy's case, she was always the one most in tune with the will of Aslan.
Susan never cared for battle, and Lucy went to war in "The Horse and His Boy."
@Animeartist124, might I point out that C.S. Lewis was Protestant so your point about the Catholic Church is a bit off topic. He also was not sexist. The point he was trying to make here is that Susan was pretending to be someone else, and so she pushed aside the lessons she had learned in Narnia, and so by extension Narnia itself. She pretended so hard and for so long that she could no longer remember who she was, an unfortunately common malady of young women.
Unfortuantely, despite the strong female characters in his stories, C.S. Lewis was a sexist. I've read several biographies on him and it's quite upsetting; he has influenced many of my religious views, but he wasn't the kindest to the women in his life.
@loverscupid Our oversensitive society would call him sexist, but he was raised in the Edwardian era-- the so-called "Age of Men." Of the women in his life he had nothing but praise (and he did speak ill of some men, too!), and many of his favorite correspondents were women.
He knew he'd grown up with some wrong ideas about women, and his writings show that he strove mightily to make his female characters more and more multidimensional, culminating in Orual, heroine of "'Till We Have Faces."
@dreamingofastranger May I add that the Calormenes were descended from Archenlanders who were descended from human Narnians who could trace their ancestry back to King Frank and Queen Helen... who were white!
Ohh do tell me that Fox will accept and replace disney so we'll enjoy all the chronicles of Narnia...
Poor susan, How i would love to have polly )the magician nephew's girl) out of the last battle instead of susan.. How i loved her character! Would be wicked if Peter the high king and susan the gentle featured into the dawn treader and maybe other book =////
I always thought that was weak that she didn't come back in the last book... I mean I get that she was a symbol for those that lose faith, but it was still week... she was always one of my favorite characters
I think that she found a way to return to Narnia to join the other pevensie's in Narnia.
But no offense and all but she should have still believed in Narnia because she should already know that when she and the others go to Narnia they all return young because they've been in Narnia before and if her heart was still there, she would be young again and she shoukd have known that.
I thibk that she found a way to return to Narnia to join the other pevensie's in Narnia.
But no offense and all but she should have still believed in Narnia because she should already know that when she and the others go to Narnia they all return young because they've been in Narnia before and if her heart was still there, she would be young again and she shoukd have known that.
Susan is so stupid, come one I'm 16 and I believe in Narnia! give me a break, besides her older brother believes, because he knows it's real. How can she fail to see what is right in front of her?! I mean seriously! what is her problem?! great video by the way!
@peacecanhappen27 It's a matter of living in a different world. Recall that when the Pevensies had been ruling in Narnia for a time, they'd all but forgotten England. I imagine something like that is at work in Susan.
For some reason in the video Anna Popplewell looks even more beautiful and as lovely as ever! It's a stunning video and I am totally favoring and giving five stars!
Great video! You did a really good job, but it still is really sad that Susan doesn't go with them. You did a nice job of showing the emotions that they would've felt. I hope she returns to Narnia!?!?!? Great song choice too! ;)
there's a reason why susan didnt go. its not just because she didnt want to, something major just happened. if u want to know what that is, then message me.
@jessXgirl16 I take it you have access to story notes penned in Lewis's own hand? That's the only way you could know of such a thing, because he never wrote about anything else.
I no i cant believe she didn't go with the other pevensies but i suppose he left the ending open so you can decide if she lives on normally and finally returns to narnia or not. & Jesse McCartney sang the song ;)
I'm not criticizing the, video which is really good, I just wanted to tell you that none of the Pevensies actually return to Narnia as they know it, after the train crash they remain in the world between (other than Susan as you mentioned) with the other friends of Narnia, and only the two youngest of the friends go to that Narnia. The rest of what you wrote was accurate though, and in my opinion it is the best book in the series, and you all should read it. Great video, though, well done :)
I thought they go to Aslans world? which is infact the true narnia. Not the one the 1st went too. & I really want to read the book but i've never seen it anywhere :( which is really annoying. sorry for late reply i've been really busy =)
I thought Susan was only in love with Caspian in the movie? I don't remember that being in the books..?

Lewis said that Susan had plenty of time to mend her ways, and I sincerely believe she did.
In my vision she would have died as an elderly woman, trusting in the existence of Aslan and Narnia even more so than she did as a child.
i could easily see her sitting with her eagerly listening grandchildren,as she tells them old tales of narnia.
in fact,in this fantasy England I can even see Susan herself as to be the one who originally wrote the chronicles for children to read.

Su isn't there.

why did she stop believing D;
i wish i could find narnia that wayyy.
does anyone find it kindaa fishy how C.S. Lewis made it so that she neglects narnia right after she comes back from the U.S. knowing that narnia represents the zone ur in while ur at peace with God (Aslan)
maybe he thought the U.S. is too liberal. and that religion should be pushed in schools, so tht people who have found "narnia" dont return to their homeland claiming it didnt exist....hmmm...
nitodaburrito92 2 years ago
i think cs lewis was just trying to explain that sometimes you get carried away with things don't really matter and that innocence and believing can be easily forgotten... it says that she started liking boys and other things like that... that sounds more fishy and it's been discussed in several books

I cried when I read the book, 'cause Susan is my favorite character in The Chronicles of Narnia, that's why ''The Last Battle'' is not my favorite book, but I realy love your video and the song is so beautiful =)

7Write4This9Heart7 2 years ago
Is it...wrong if I've started to hate Susan for choosing not to believe in Narnia anymore? I mean, I get the whole symbol thing, but I believe in Narnia with all of my heart, so...perhaps I'm biased...?
7Write4This9Heart7 2 years ago
i believe its there too!!!!!!!!!! msg me and i'll tell u somthing really interesting!
JoBrosLover14 2 years ago
@7Write4This9Heart7 Yes. Peter, Edmund, Professor Kirke, Lucy, Aunt Polly, Eustace, Jill, and Mr. & Mrs. Pevensie die in a train crash and go to Aslan's Country.
Susan survived, but it is not said what happens to her afterward. Though many, including myself, like to believe that she later found her faith again.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Animeartist124 3 years ago
No, CS Lewis said that Susan is no longer a friend of Narnia because she made a choice - she chose to no longer believe in Narnia, so any repercussions of her choice have been sown by her own hand. Also, the characters were scathing about Susan only caring about "lipsticks and nylnos and invitations" because Susan chose them over Narnia - this doesn't symbolise her sexuality or loss of virginity, as that was never touched upno and is highly unlikely - this was written in the 50s.
dreamingofastranger 2 years ago
Also, she could have chosen "puddings and carrots and pies." The characters would have been just as scathing. Finally, Lewis was not a sexist - some of his strongest characters were women - Lucy, Aravis, Polly, Jill. Claiming Lewis to be a sexist is jsut as narrow minded as people claimnig him to be rascist because the Calormenes were dark-skinned. Before pointing figners, we should all rememebr what colour the White Witch was. OK, rant over =)
dreamingofastranger 2 years ago 20
The fact is, Christianity views women expressing sexuality as nothing but wicked ALWAYS HAS! the catholic church portrayed mary madgalene as a PROSTITUTE because they share such disdain for a woman who was beautiful and sexually active but not married until the 70's when they rebuked the myth Susan was a victim of sexism in more than just that way, as was Lucy. Lewis "Respected" women by giving them weapons, but in the true novels Susan may have shot an arrow TWICE at most, Lucy not once fought!
Animeartist124 2 years ago
I'm not talking about Christianity or the Catholic church - even though I am a Christian (and no I'm not Catholic). The fact of the matter is Susan chose to believe Narnia was a figment of imagination - if you're gonig to bring God into this, a mdoern day comparison would be soemone saying "Oh God doesn't exist, he was just an imaginary friend I had when i was young" - you can't expect to jsut stroll into heaven then.
dreamingofastranger 2 years ago 2
Also, Lucy fought in the books - in THAHS, Corin clearly said: "What nonsense! Queen Lucy is going to be with the archers." Therefore, she did fight. you can't say Lucy was a victim of sexism - she was portrayed as the strongest character there besides Aslan, because she remained faithful to him when nobody else would. Even in THAHB, Susan acted like "an ordinary grown-up lady." So it was inevitable that she would grow out of Narnia. Not to say I liked this ending - as a matter of fact I didn't
dreamingofastranger 2 years ago 2
@Animeartist124 Try reading "Song of Solomon" in the Old Testament. If the Catholics were as sexist as you're trying to make them out to be, they'd have excised that bit of erotic poetry from the Bible.
Lewis respected women by showing them to be wise, compassionate, and often righter about things than the males. In Lucy's case, she was always the one most in tune with the will of Aslan.
Susan never cared for battle, and Lucy went to war in "The Horse and His Boy."
MaskedMan66 1 year ago
@Animeartist124, might I point out that C.S. Lewis was Protestant so your point about the Catholic Church is a bit off topic. He also was not sexist. The point he was trying to make here is that Susan was pretending to be someone else, and so she pushed aside the lessons she had learned in Narnia, and so by extension Narnia itself. She pretended so hard and for so long that she could no longer remember who she was, an unfortunately common malady of young women.
peacecanhappen27 1 year ago
Unfortuantely, despite the strong female characters in his stories, C.S. Lewis was a sexist. I've read several biographies on him and it's quite upsetting; he has influenced many of my religious views, but he wasn't the kindest to the women in his life.
loverscupid 2 years ago
@loverscupid Our oversensitive society would call him sexist, but he was raised in the Edwardian era-- the so-called "Age of Men." Of the women in his life he had nothing but praise (and he did speak ill of some men, too!), and many of his favorite correspondents were women.
He knew he'd grown up with some wrong ideas about women, and his writings show that he strove mightily to make his female characters more and more multidimensional, culminating in Orual, heroine of "'Till We Have Faces."
MaskedMan66 1 year ago
@dreamingofastranger May I add that the Calormenes were descended from Archenlanders who were descended from human Narnians who could trace their ancestry back to King Frank and Queen Helen... who were white!
MaskedMan66 1 year ago
uh no!
it was because she saw narnia as a childish memory!
and lipstick, nylons, and invatations is what she mostly worried about!

@peacecanhappen27 It's a matter of living in a different world. Recall that when the Pevensies had been ruling in Narnia for a time, they'd all but forgotten England. I imagine something like that is at work in Susan.

no susan doesn't go back to Narnia because she doesn't believe in it anymore. She thought it was just a game they used to play when the were younger.
FrozenNightmares 3 years ago
I'm not criticizing the, video which is really good, I just wanted to tell you that none of the Pevensies actually return to Narnia as they know it, after the train crash they remain in the world between (other than Susan as you mentioned) with the other friends of Narnia, and only the two youngest of the friends go to that Narnia. The rest of what you wrote was accurate though, and in my opinion it is the best book in the series, and you all should read it. Great video, though, well done :)
