De plus, sa conception interdit de tirer a pleine vitesse vers l'avant sans endomager gravement le berceau du canon et la tourelle rendant le char inapte au combat, sans parler du risque de blesser l'equipage (deja eu des blesses lors de tests ).

krhm, actually that's not quite as fast as a leo2. The Germans promise it wil do 44mph, but mine did 58mph on the speed radar. There was still some in the reserve, but I had to slow down becouse of the heavy traffic. I wonder what's the turret speed. If it's fast enough, it can easily flank other enemy tanks while firing. It can also easily avoid enemy fire, while trying to aim at the attacking enemy. Speed made almost all AT Field guns useless, especially the ones that must be manually turned.
i'm going to go ahead and say it. The Challenger II is easily one of the best if not the best tank in the world today. The tank is one of the fastest on rough ground, it has achieved the longest tank to tank kill ever made, and it is the only tank not to receive any losses in Iraq. Also the Challenger in one engagement received something like 13 RPG hits and a hit from an anti tank missile, and was only damaged and back in operation 6 hours later due to the tanks top sercret armour. ;D

The Challenger II, the M1A2 Abrams, the Leo 2, the Leclerc, the Type 10, the K2 black panther, the Type 99 and the T-90 are all impressive tanks in one way or the other. They're all fairly similar in speed, armament, armor and agility. Until they've all been set up against eachother in a fucking arena like gladiators in a tournament like battle, we'll have no clue to which one is the best. The End.
@wellerocks I wouldnt say "all" Russian tank designs are still more dangerous to their own crews than the enemy, but in principal thats correct. All the tankers I have spoken to have said the winner to determined by the quality of the crew, who sees who first, not the quality of the machine.
One M1 Abrams gunner I know said that if he would had to pick one, the German Leopard II would be his choice. But again a Leopard II can be easily destroyed by any of the tanks on the list you mentioned
@mmarsh1972 yeah, a modern tank battle wouldn't be as much about which tank is the best, but rather who can fire the fastest, the most accurate and separate enemies from friends. The Leo 2 has an amazing targeting system called Celcius in which Sweden made for their Strv 122's. It allows the gunner to aim and fire and targets whilst the commander looks for new targets. By the click of a button, the turret turns to the commanders sight and he's free to scan for new targets yet again.
@wellerocks We can look at specs and tell which ones should have a advantage in a certain situation. The Leopart 2, Challenger, Agrams and T-90 have fought many battles, less is known about the performance of the others in battle. The Leclerc is lighter then most and has quite impressive specs, but is, as I said, yet to be proven effective.
One thing, I wouldn't want a person who's mad at me to have any of these :D
@An0niempje well that depends. I'd still say that today, most battles depend on the situation, the crew and the crew's training/experiences. Of the tanks I've mentioned, some have seen combat, but only against much older tanks as in Georgia, Iraq etc.
I do like the concept of the Leclerc but as previously stated, it remains to be seen. I mean, I did like the concept of the F-35 and that has turned out to be a major pain in the butt for the USAF and the export countries.

Also, having seen combat against older tanks is still combat, even better to judge capabilities IMHO because the tanks are used more offensively then against equal opponents. Plus, there are characteristics unknown to amateurs which are more important than facts such as speed or weight. Comparing battle tanks is almost pointless (and mostly mere nationalism) unless you know all about the technologies or the composition of a tanks's armour. And I bet none of us knows which materials are used in which place.
Who fucken cares how fast your tank is? As long as the turret can spin fast enough and you're a great enough distance from the enemy no tank can outrun a fucken shell traveling at Mach2. Also tanks are pretty obsolete these days, any aircraft or helicopter worth a fuck will make quick work of one. It's all about command and control, satellites, coordinated warfare. I'd rather have the best logistics and intelligence and medium fighters rather than the best of any one piece of equipment.

krhm, actually that's not quite as fast as a leo2. The Germans promise it wil do 44mph, but mine did 58mph on the speed radar. There was still some in the reserve, but I had to slow down becouse of the heavy traffic. And the rubber pads on the tracks were starting to turn into smoke becouse of the combination of high speed and very hot weather :D

I wonder what's the turret speed. If it's fast enough, it can easily flank other enemy tanks while firing. It can also easily avoid enemy fire, while trying to aim at the attacking enemy. Speed made almost all AT Field guns useless, especially the ones that must be manually turned.

i'm going to go ahead and say it. The Challenger II is easily one of the best if not the best tank in the world today. The tank is one of the fastest on rough ground, it has achieved the longest tank to tank kill ever made, and it is the only tank not to receive any losses in Iraq. Also the Challenger in one engagement received something like 13 RPG hits and a hit from an anti tank missile, and was only damaged and back in operation 6 hours later due to the tanks top sercret armour. ;D

Can't we all just fucking agree on that pretty much all modern tanks as of today are lethal.
The Challenger II, the M1A2 Abrams, the Leo 2, the Leclerc, the Type 10, the K2 black panther, the Type 99 and the T-90 are all impressive tanks in one way or the other. They're all fairly similar in speed, armament, armor and agility. Until they've all been set up against eachother in a fucking arena like gladiators in a tournament like battle, we'll have no clue to which one is the best. The End.

@wellerocks I wouldnt say "all" Russian tank designs are still more dangerous to their own crews than the enemy, but in principal thats correct. All the tankers I have spoken to have said the winner to determined by the quality of the crew, who sees who first, not the quality of the machine.
One M1 Abrams gunner I know said that if he would had to pick one, the German Leopard II would be his choice. But again a Leopard II can be easily destroyed by any of the tanks on the list you mentioned

@mmarsh1972 yeah, a modern tank battle wouldn't be as much about which tank is the best, but rather who can fire the fastest, the most accurate and separate enemies from friends. The Leo 2 has an amazing targeting system called Celcius in which Sweden made for their Strv 122's. It allows the gunner to aim and fire and targets whilst the commander looks for new targets. By the click of a button, the turret turns to the commanders sight and he's free to scan for new targets yet again.

@wellerocks We can look at specs and tell which ones should have a advantage in a certain situation. The Leopart 2, Challenger, Agrams and T-90 have fought many battles, less is known about the performance of the others in battle. The Leclerc is lighter then most and has quite impressive specs, but is, as I said, yet to be proven effective.
One thing, I wouldn't want a person who's mad at me to have any of these :D

@An0niempje well that depends. I'd still say that today, most battles depend on the situation, the crew and the crew's training/experiences. Of the tanks I've mentioned, some have seen combat, but only against much older tanks as in Georgia, Iraq etc.
I do like the concept of the Leclerc but as previously stated, it remains to be seen. I mean, I did like the concept of the F-35 and that has turned out to be a major pain in the butt for the USAF and the export countries.

@wellerocks True, but if you compare vehicles you assume that all other factors are the same. Also, having seen combat against older tanks is still combat, even better to judge capabilities IMHO because the tanks are used more offensively then against equal opponents. That results in more tank vs tank.
May I ask what is wrong with the F-35 in technical sense? I mean, the plane can't help it's price tag...

@leonardbonerhard: I agree. Battle tanks do a better job for propaganda (recruiting guys like some of the commenters...) than they contribute to modern warfare.
Plus, there are characteristics unknown to amateurs which are more important than facts such as speed or weight. Comparing battle tanks is almost pointless (and mostly mere nationalism) unless you know all about the technologies or the composition of a tanks's armour. And I bet none of us knows which materials are used in which place.

Who fucken cares how fast your tank is? As long as the turret can spin fast enough and you're a great enough distance from the enemy no tank can outrun a fucken shell traveling at Mach2. Also tanks are pretty obsolete these days, any aircraft or helicopter worth a fuck will make quick work of one. It's all about command and control, satellites, coordinated warfare. I'd rather have the best logistics and intelligence and medium fighters rather than the best of any one piece of equipment.

If a leclerc saves 3 targets in its computer, it attacks this 3 targets first....
...even when a more dangerous target comes from behind or anywhere else..
Then the Leclerc crew have to delete the order and select new targets... and this costs time

@SilaceWarrior Yes. And to achieve this, Americans used a turbine. Not a piston engine, right? Better performances, but a much higher fuel consumption. US army has excellent logistics, so it's ok for them, but no european army could afford Abrams.
By making it lighter, the French managed to build a more mobile tank, with superior fire power, and without reducing armor protection. Oh, and it does not look like a christmas tree on enemy IR cameras :D
A much more interesting solution imho.
