Wow, this is really good and powerful; and a quite individual interpretation. I also love how he sobs when he says "Minnie" -- I've never heard that before.

La FANCIULLA estaba fuera del repertorio de Pavarotti, este ária, hay que cantarla con más dramatismo y desesperación y no tan limpita como la ejecuta Pavarotti. Tengo LA FANCIULLA, cantada por MARIO DEL MONACO, del año  1951, en Nápoles y tuvo que bisar Ch' Ella mi creda. Pero es cierto que la mejor versión que existe de esta ópera es la de 1954, con DEL MONACO, STEBER Y EL GRAN MITROPOULOS, ¡¡ ESCALOFRIANTE!!!!!

para hacer un comentario sobre la interpretación de un aria, se debe conocer l el argumento de la ópera, , en esta ária, del último acto, Johnson,  al cual van a ahorcar, se acuerda de Minnie, no desea que ella sepa cómo ha muerto, dígame usted TOLTECAAZTECA , si es para cantarla con alegria y dinamismo, ó en su lugar con un profundo abatimiento y tristeza. MARIO DEL MONACO HA SIDO EL MEJOR JOHNSON de la historia.

Lento .casi con flojera.Incluso aburrido y sin ganas.Buen canto bien en la exprecion.Pero Pavarotti es mas dinamico ,alegre,ligero pero acertado y con muchas mas agallas y corazon.

Del Monaco perhaps can be accused of many things, but lazy&boring,without desire were never among them.Just from the mere size of DelMonaco's dramatic voice over Pav's Lyric voice, Pavarotti cannot compete dynamically.Pavarotti is more cheerful& light,(yes) but thats the wrong interpretation for this aria where the tenor is about to be hung.Pav although a great lyric tenor,Pav cannot compete with MDM in( Or son sei mesi)as well an this entire Fanciulla.Enjoy

L'edizione di Firenze 1954 è il TOP, esegue anche il duetto del secondo atto senza taglio mettendo un Do naturale incredibile...

Quasi nessuno lo sa, mi è stato riferito dal mio compagno Giovanni il quale conosce tutto su MDM.

Lui possiede anche una Fanciulla Del West del 1951 a Napoli

Grande interpretazione!!! A mio avviso inferiore solo all'interpretazione che egli, offrì nel 1954 a Firenze, con la direzione del grande Mitropolus, e che non è mai  stata superata da alcun cantante, sopratutto nella grande aria " or son sei mesi", nel quale ha, un coinvolgimento emotivo con il pubblico mai raggiunto, e una grandiosità vocale e orchestrale da lasciare sbalorditi!!! Ascoltate la registrazione del 1954, e sentitene altre per capire meglio la grandezza dell'interprete. Saluti

Although one of my favorite singers, I am not blind to the fact that not everything he sang was sung best. If I had to choose the singer who sang the best Ch'ella, the honor would have to go to him. Have I heard him sing this aria better?

Sure, but this is still without a doubt a spectacular version. To the person who thinks he is being clever saying this aria is sung flat &we who enjoy this version have wax-filled ears. Most singers would die to sing so flat if that were the case! Even great singers like Bjorling (one of my favorite singers) couldn't wipe Del Monacos shoes when it comes to singing this same aria.

A singer that sings out of of tune is enjoyable only if the listener has his ears full of wax; other MDM's renditions of this aria are much better, not this one!
