Tones "Night Music" has been a mainstay for me through phases of music. In my opinion, it is a masterwork. Daniel Ash, bless you for doing this. and ntival, Thanks!
@riverrockgarden I couldn't agree more, "Night Music" has been a mainstay for me as well. It's carried me through some difficult times through the decades.
Music is a high within itself. I remember crowd surfing , not even stoned at Pearl Jam, STP, and Nirvana, (I was 13) and I got more high offf of the experience then off of the other shit people try to push. Writing it gives you even more of a relaxed feeling.....you feel at peace;I guess it would depend on what you were into.
i would like it much better if they summerized part 0:00 - 3:30 into 0:30 - 0:45 seconds cuz i had no idea this had a complete change to the song until i considered watching the whole thing....
philocybe cubensis definitely makes this one to put on repeat on your CD player-or in my college days tech an LP.Yes,it's a repeater anyway, the mind can travel with a stout dose and music designed for it.
I've been a big fan of this band since I first herd them. Most people never herd of Tones On Tail. Too bad they only really did one album's worth of material.
God, what a song. Who makes music like this anymore? Love the lyrics, love Tones on Tail. That's probably what I miss the most about the 80s. Profound, artful lyrics, along with musical brilliance.
Oh darn,I got a -2 rating on my comments,I'm so torn apart. Heh!!
Try being pronounced dead once, and see how much you care after the doctors get lucky and figure out how to fix you, after more poking and prodding than you can stand, and being hospitalized for two weeks.
Happy motoring, and regards to all, regardless of your opinions.
wisesatyr72-God I'd hope so.I know everyone's enttitled to their own opinion, but DePeche Mode is probably barely capable of doing 'roadie' work for T.O.T.
That's a great visual. I can see it...the somber masses of the witnesses of your life gathering in silence, staring at the floor and walls, or perhaps occasionally at one another, completely contemplative if not a bit perplexed...the wordless ceremony marking your passing in a mere 8.5 minutes...what a bold statement. Talk about a memory maker--that would truly immortalize you in the minds of all in attendance. You could have them all videotaped during the song, and then play it at the wake...
I hear you love. I used to go to sleep to this song in High School on my Walkman! It's actually hard to listen too now. It brings back soooo many memories. Ah, TOT. brilliant!
@tdoesntmatter - I used to smoke a fattie,or have some psilocybes or acid, and end up on my college dorm couch, headphones on,I was lucky to have the room to myself.
Anyway,We're probably close in age, because I worked about 4 years before I went to college.
But,I think I know what you mean about memories!
I personally feel that letting stuff come to the surface,memory-wise,is the best policy,by far.
Love this band... Shows how much talent Danial Ash and Kevin Haskins have. Kinda wish David J was with them on this band but, thats Bauhaus and Love Rockets are for...
I only remembered that I owned a cassette of this album when I was clearing out the attic the other day... It's up there with the first This Mortal Coil album as far as I am concerned... Must see if it's available on CD... a 'must buy' ace stuff xxx
If you want Tones on Tail on CD, there is a release entitled "Everything", which is true to its name. It includes the Pop album on one disc and all the a&b-side singles on a second disc. An amazing collection from beginning to end!
Probably the most often played song on my stereo system in the 80's. And it still stands the test of time. Along with everything else that they did back in the day - even through the early L&L years up until Earth.Sun.Moon (a great release!) after which they really let fame get to their bloated heads with the song So Alive and the lousy album that went along with it. When you put that up against a song like The Rain, there's just nooo comparison. An interesting photo shoot btw.. fits the mood..
picture it..coming home from clubbing pissed and happy...collapsing on bed with earphones on and 'pop' on the turntable, awake next morn, earphones still half on, turntable clicking, bangin head, an still in me leathers!
Feburary 9, 2009, Southern California, 4:00 am it's raining outside at this very mometn, I'm listening to this wonderful song while listen to the gentle rain fall out side. A thing of beauty I feel. Nice pics, you should of had some movie maker effects to give the video a bit more *umph* in my opinion, not bad though.

There are plenty of phallic symbols in this vid.,but plenty of sapphic references also.
For instance, the artsy female nudes, but the calla lillies.
Not that that bothers me,as I'm male.Hehehe,LOL.

I'll be cremated upon death(yes I'm old enough to think of these things).
I want everybody to sit down,my urn on display, then have this song played.
When it's over,everybody can leave.
The typical funeral is a load of horse sh**,as is embalming and caskets.
I'm sorry, but they'll rot just as fast as the non-embalmed.You learn these things as a biology major in college(about 22 years ago).

hear! here! ;-)
The next in line must be the extended version of Performance (followed by Shakes which is a further extension of the same song ;)
Then followed closely by Real Life... well, I think all these songs are pretty much equal.
And Lions has the catchiest phrase..
and then of course the best dance song ever ~ GO!
pure genius ;)
