  • The tune was written by Slim Gaillard of Slim and Slam (Slam Stewart), who wrote and performed many racy tunes of the day. Slam Stewart pioneered playing bass solos with a German bow and humming along an octave higher, inspiring others like Major Holley on bass and even George Benson on guitar years later. Check 'em out!

  • I didn't know the words meant anything, thought it was just another silly song from the era!!My mother used to sing the song and go truckin' on down!!

  • Long live rock'n roll? Long live Swing!

  • SORRY, THEY HAD TO SAY FLOOGEE,FLOOGIE, AND SO ON IN 1938-48 MY BAD, BUT WE KNOW WHAT THEY MEANT

  • I heard that is is a well disguised song about veneral disease.

  • @zola78rpm

Indeed - the "flat foot floogee" was slang for a bombastic, uncouth woman. The "floy floy" was the disease. I love dancing to this song, but knowing the meaning does slightly ruin it for me.

  • Benny Goodman grew up with yiddish speaking parents. So did Harry James, Artie Shaw and many others. 'Floy' is yiddish for flea in case anyone wants to know.

  • Not heard this for over sixty years. Great.
