I think there's no way to ever duplicate that "magical effect" we all felt when we all first heard "dust" in the 70's. There was nothing like the picking sound on Kerry's guitar, Steve's vocals on it, Robbie's harmonies with him, and, of course, his violin. But yet, aftr saying that, bizarrely, if for some quirk in time, these songs were switched, I actually think this one would do very well, noone ever hearing the it before. For u insult the songwriter, both words & music. For that was part or it.
Darkdefender, how can u be a Kansas fan,but not much of a John Elefante fan? I think maybe what u mean is not specifically a John Elefante fan? Is his voice really either that bad for u? Or that much not in sink with the Kansas sound? Or is it something personal, or nothing to do strictly w/ Kansas musically? I mean, even if John's voice wasn't up to the level of Steve Walsh's, it'd be like saying u weren't a huge Steinhardt fan bcuz when he sang, his voice wasn't as good as Steves!John did fine.
John still has the voice and the heart...so many from his generation lost it all to the distractions... the sinful life of endless pleasure... who can still hit the same notes and put the power into the voice like John Elefante? How is John's life different than the others?
I'm a Kansas fan and not much of an Elefante fan, however, John did a great job in creating this version, harmonies, piano and electric guitar must say it's awesome. I don't think though that I would have reached number 3 on the charts in 77 like the acoustic guitar version with Walsh and Steinhardt.
Incredible, majestic version of the classic, arranged with multiple layers of sound that complement the passion of Elefante's multi-faceted voice. Very powerful and beautiful,
I have been a fan of John from the first C.D. he came out with. I love his music!
